Hair is a deal breaker for me! I’m too scared to check out the restrooms before I order. Ignorance is bliss but I know I should 😳 You’re at my old stomping grounds! I miss OC. Capitol’s quality has gone down.
One you talk too much. Had to jump through first half of the video because it was so boring. Two, what food critic reviews a fast food joint that you have to order at the window?! 😂 gotta go.
I think you should send Nate to the last restaurant by himself with just the glasses. No camera. No notebook. I'm curious to see if he'd have a different experience. This was such a fun vid can't wait to see more! ☺️
I've been literally binge watching this lady's videos all weekend, I don't know what it is about her but she's so warm and welcoming, makes me feel special. :)
The one point I would make about cleanliness- what time of day/day if the week are you going to the establishments? I notice some places start off well but once they get busy they don’t prioritize having someone maintain the bathrooms or keeping things clean … love this new format of video!
I do think that restaurant critics should know a lot about the place before slamming it. Learn about the place, then go in and try everything out, check for cleanliness, react to the service and how well they treat you, etc. The pandemic has really damaged restaurants in general. It killed off quite a few in my county.
I wonder how much you coming in with a camera and pretending to be food critic also affects the behavior and food...I think you have to really act undercover to get the true treatment.
This was honestly one of my favorite videos... so different. I absolutely loved it. Everyone deserves a second chance and I believe you did that. Please do more of these.
I absolutely loved this video! Makes me sad that the Italian restaurant, due to the reviews from the incident years ago, is not getting the business that it could be. Pleaseeeee do another three restaurants!!!
For the second place, hair would definitely gross me out. If I was at home, and I accidentally get hair in a food (being that it isn't liquid or has broth, etc) I would just take it out really quick and continue eating since it's at home and it was my mistake and I cooked that. But if it's a business.. a whole ass restaurant, I expect them to be wearing hairnets or at least put their hair up and not let hair get on the food that they're serving to customers... it's just a red flag a bit. I'd definitely let them know too so that they can learn to be more careful
Some restaurants don’t update their hours on their website since they usually have to pay to get anything changed on it. As for Apple Maps and Google Maps, they encourage business owners to submit updates for their hours online. Apple or Google will then call the business’ phone number to verify the info update. The problem is that they may call when the restaurant isn’t open. Anyone can report a problem with the listed hours. I’ve done this for several businesses. Apple and Google will sometimes make the changes and other times not make the changes. I’m a “local guide” on Google Maps, meaning that what I submit should be trusted but Google still ignores some of the updates I’ve submitted.
This was such a fun video to watch lol as a big foodie myself getting to see the opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to best worst restaurants is a breath of fresh air. Also I dunno if its the way the video was shot or the location but when you talked with Anne Marie everything looked so warm and colorful kinda like a dream scene, some other scenes in the video looked this way as well. Really cool
Living in a small town for a year, I've noticed the lowest rated are some of the best I've had since moving from the city. The ones people highly recommend have me convinced the residents here haven't left town to eat anywhere else.
Hold on a moment . . . unlike what your waiter at the Italian place said, I seriously doubt that Yelp and Google call restaurants to check their hours - to do this would probably be a full time job! The owner of the restaurant should have a Yelp account and ensure that their own restaurant data is updated accordingly. To me, such an attention to detail goes along with showing respect for their customers (potential and otherwise). If my waiter had said that to me, I would have gently asked why the owner did not simply update the Yelp and Google pages for their own place! Additionally, any person with a Yelp account can submit a form on the Yelp page for any given restaurant to modify their hours of operation (not sure if you can for Google). It helps if you also submit photo evidence of the hours of the place in question. I've done it and Yelp has adjusted their data (in this case, a very good German place near me). I have no idea if Yelp called the place to confirm, or went solely off the evidence of my photo of the hours posted on the restaurant's door window.
exactly, i had a business and a yelp/google page. updating hours just takes about a minute to do on your own. Yelp and especially Google will never call!
I worked at a restaurant for 17 years as a manager. Google would call about every 2 months wanting to update our business listing. Granted, it was a chain restaurant and that may have impacted it, but I can confirm that Google does call. And from experience, it is always at times that are least convenient for you to be tied up on the phone in a restaurant, such as middle of lunch and dinner rush.
Came here to say exactly this - it is the responsibility of the restaurant owner to make sure things like this are correct. It's actually easy and not doing it is such a lazy way to lose customers.
Yay! I’m glad you’ve been able to give a more unbiased perspective on how these places really are. Maybe it does change restaurant staff’s service when they see you in your whole getup.
Do people who complain not understand what a street taco is? It’s going to be small…..but it’s full of flavor. You go to Walmart and you have street taco tortillas……guess what? They are tiny?
Excellent video. Appreciate coverage of restaurants in my area. Your reviews took into account variables that can affect YELP,etc ratings. Thanks for such interesting content🤗🤗
Loved watching this! Appreciated the nuanced approach and the variety in cuisines and price point. Asian restaurants too often get bad reviews on the service by non-Asian patrons which is pretty unfair since there are cultural differences in expectation to consider.
Yeah, definitely go without notebook and glasses, go around for breakfast, 1 for lunch and 7 for dinner. These will give you a good idea how a restaurant is run and being taken care of, but not during a crazy ass rush.
I work at a restaurant myself and from experience you are almost guaranteed better food and service if you go somewhere when they first open. It makes sense when you think about it the cooks are making they’re first meals of the day with the freshly prepped ingredients and the servers are also just starting their shifts
LOVE you cause I have worked in restaurants and sincerely bad reviews can destroy a business making a bad situation worse the food industry is rough and its a lot of effort and money invested in this businesses and people really pour their heart and soul into this businesses and it's for me really hard watching them do this cause no matter how bad it seems ppl usually care a lot I think for cooks its not greatly paid and its hard to keep and/or find even trained at all or experienced staff as its so poorly paid too
That was a very fun video. I really like that concept and hope you will do more like this. :D I think for me, the one that felt the less good was the taco place, because bland salsa would really be a turn off for me. Sauces are made to elevate your dish, so being a boring salsa would really dissapoint me. Online reviews are always a mixed bag for me. I've been to places that had excellent scores and came with high recommandation that were extremely ordinary, and places that had really middle of the road review that blew me away.
Thanks for this kind of video it gives a different perspective. I have gone to some restaurants where it had a good review but the food or customer service was horrible. I doordash so I'm in and out of restaurants all the time. I know the ones that are good in my area and the ones to avoid altogether 🙂
this was soooo fun to watch, and if I was in la I would definitely go to that italian to support it! I hope this video will give it the boost it needs!
It was sad that the last place still is having a hard time. It was good you went and gave them a much better score. Maybe people in your area will give them another chance. Love your videos
I worked at a local restaurant in my area until last year. When there was a negative review written online, the owner would find the customer’s contact number from the bookings & pay them to take the review down, which most of the time, reviewers would accept the money to remove their review.
You're super brave for trying 2-star restaurants and such....I'd be all skeeved out by the cleanliness factor, but all three looked clean enough. The thing is that, all three restaurants are really different in that you have fast-food, to serving the masses (dim sum), to fine dining...so I think it'd be better to eat at 3 like places and rate them....Fine dining will always get more points because you're paying for the experience/ambiance.
Great video! Thank you. Please consider doing a video with your favorite/best places in your city for breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee and snacks. Thank you very much. P.s. it would be very helpful for those of us planning to visit disneyland this year and stay in your area. 😬
I'm going to make so many notebooks for all of my services, my "doctor review notebook" for the doctor's office, the dentist, auto mechanic, my parents
My hubby and I honeymooned in Maine, and of course decided to try some new places while there. My favorite was a place 30 minutes from our hotel that was locally run, the staff was amazingly friendly -even during the end of 2020 lockdown- and the food was absolutely amazing, with portions that were as big as their huge plates. The chicken parm was hands-down the best. It was not only huge, but it was fresh. I gave a bite to my hubby who, as a chef, was quick to point out just how fresh the meat was. On the flip side, the mixed bag that we tried was a place that served seafood. I love seafood, so I carefully chose some appetizers and main that let me try a bit of everything: Lobster, scallops and shrimp. The lobster was amazing, but the fried scallops and shrimp was so bland... Hubby guessed the batter was basically flour and water. There was so little flavor. We gave it a second shot before we left -this time avoiding anything fried- and the experience was sooo much better. I got a whole lobster and decided to try the Lobster Mac and cheese as a side. The Mac and cheese was sensational, along with the lobster. Also, worth noting too that the staff was friendly and incredibly willing to work with me when he knew what I wanted (we couldn't afford to pay for a whole entree of lobster mac, so he made it a smaller portion as a side)

The food critic thing! I only take photos and don't intend to act as a food critic, but they took away my dish to add more caviar once :D Hope you didn't get food poisoning!
If I see hair in my food which I have it definitely grosses me out! I wouldn’t even know how to rate and I know it can be a innocent mistake but it makes me feel mad they like I’m guessing is that my hair? When it’s not.

After I saw one bite from Burrito, I was confused why we didn't see you take another, at least couple more.. . I'm not a Taco fan either but I've had a taco or two worth eating. Tacos are basic, Soft & Crunchy. If not prepared properly via seasons & freshness they're easily a flop item..
Fun n interesting video. Do you think how you dressed n going in with a notebook n camera changes the behavior of the service.. by getting better customer service by thre waitstaff or better food quality?
Your such a nice lady . I feel like your going find a lot of sketchy businesses that might be fronts for another business that’s not advertised lol. Godspeed HS
Oh the second I see hair in my food my appetite is IMMEDIATELY gone!! I’m never rude but I send food back for hair because now I’m paranoid and would check my food before each bite
Did these restaurants deserve their overall rating? Comment below!
$75!? Yikes.
Hair is a deal breaker for me!
I’m too scared to check out the restrooms before I order. Ignorance is bliss but I know I should 😳
You’re at my old stomping grounds! I miss OC.
Capitol’s quality has gone down.
The last restaurant apparently was a star!
Sangat bagus saya rasa restoran ini terima kasih sharingnya

Actually though… that’s a great idea!!! I’m super curious too and told him I wanted him to try!!
thats good idea. nate should go in critic super undercover as a critic
The taco being small is actually so authentic to how tacos are made in Mexico a lot of street tacos sell them with smaller tortillas
THIS!!
I've been literally binge watching this lady's videos all weekend, I don't know what it is about her but she's so warm and welcoming, makes me feel special. :)
Same😆

I feel that way about Yelp reviews too… real sad for the last restaurant cause they were so nice and food was delicious!
The problem is, the reviews weren’t left by food critics. Regular, bored people have too much power to damage a business. 🤷♀️
I wonder how much you coming in with a camera and pretending to be food critic also affects the behavior and food...I think you have to really act undercover to get the true treatment.
agreed, just to see the true service !
She said the camera is in her glasses
@@ashlynburroughs8963 agreed!
@@monkissification dolphin milk cameras?
Agree 100%
I got a little teary when you went to the last restaurant, people are still trying to recover post pandemic and the world has gone a little crazy.
This video was so fun to watch!! I'll definitely be giving low rated restaurants a chance!
This was honestly one of my favorite videos... so different. I absolutely loved it. Everyone deserves a second chance and I believe you did that. Please do more of these.

I was a chef for years. your content is entertaining, mouth-watering, and informative.
I really enjoyed this video. Its a shame how one bad review could have such a strong effect on a place. Great job, Dzung!
Living in a small town for a year, I've noticed the lowest rated are some of the best I've had since moving from the city. The ones people highly recommend have me convinced the residents here haven't left town to eat anywhere else.
What a fantastic idea! Thank you so much for sharing your creativity. Your channels have surpassed my expectations.
Thank you so much!

Interesting bc they most definitely do call to update multiple times a year 🤣
They just want less customers so they can make less money as a business 🤷♀
Yay! I’m glad you’ve been able to give a more unbiased perspective on how these places really are. Maybe it does change restaurant staff’s service when they see you in your whole getup.
Possibly!! It’s be interesting to come back without the gears and see!
LOVED THIS!!! Please make this a mini series! Maybe try the worst rated restaurants in L.A.?
Seriously love this series!!!! This is such a great idea! I can’t wait until the next episode! Keep it up girl :)))

I’m just here for noodle boy. 10/10. should have his own show
One day he’ll take over. He was made for tv! Such a ham hahah
I don't get why the last restaurant can't update their own website with the correct hours? It still says they open at noon.

Dessert!!! Or even bobaaa 🫠
This was so fun to watch! I could binge watch a series on this! I hope you review more 2 star restaurants!

Street tacos are supposed to be small. That's all...
This was truly interesting. I enjoyed you being a food critic. I love the changes you are making with your videos so much fun and exciting.
Thank you!! I’m so happy to hear! 😊😊
That last place made me feel guilty about how I choose restaurants. I may not be so harsh in the future

In my opinion, a lot of Yelp reviews are filled with nitpicking “Karen’s” which is why I take them with a grain of salt most of the time now
I really like this video! I think we'll try out that Italian spot it looks so fancy
Love your honest opinions! These are in my area as well and will definitely need to try the Italian restaurant in Newport!

this was soooo fun to watch, and if I was in la I would definitely go to that italian to support it! I hope this video will give it the boost it needs!
Street tacos are always very small, it's a little shocking if you've never had one before.
PS You have a beautiful little boy.
It was sad that the last place still is having a hard time. It was good you went and gave them a much better score. Maybe people in your area will give them another chance. Love your videos
And then... we rob em 🤣🤣🤣

Yea that makes sense!! I’ll have to try similar bad ones like that here!

This was a very entertaining video to watch. I love how paused and perspicuous you are. Definitely subscribing to your channel.
I just had a hair in a food at one of my fave taco restaurants. It grossed me out, but I will try it again prayerfully lol
Love this type video. You are such a kind and sweet critic.
I like your kind and sincere way to make videos!

Gurl I've followed u for 6years and you are leveling to whole another level♥️♥️♥️🙌
I really enjoyed you taking time and reviewing the restaurants! Good video.
What a great idea for a vlog. I’m on the east coast & hope local vloggers start doing this kind of content.
Their pot pie is so good ! I wanna join the next taste test 😂

Noodle boy technique is hilarious LOL
I must learn that magnificent noodle technique! Is it possible to learn such mastery or is it raw talent?!?
I enjoyed this video a lot!!!! Please do more on different worst Asian spots in Garden Grove!
Not sure if it’s been done, but someone should bring someone else along, one pretends to be a food critic, the other walks in a few minutes later and is just a normal customer. Compare both experiences.
Great idea! How would I title that? “Food Critic vs Normie?”
I'd watch this series.
The problem with Yelp is that they weight some reviews more than others. Most small biz owners I know hate Yelp, and anecdotally it seems that Yelp reviews are usually about one star lower than Googles reviews.

Bravo👏🏽💫
Sometimes Yelp reviews are a good warning to not waste my time. But sometimes I wonder if it’s a disgruntled former employee or customer who is venting🤔
Yes, I am a hair grossed out gal. And I understand it happens etc but nope. Couldn't have finished or taken anything on the hair plate.
restaurants tend to have off days i have noticed even the best iv eaten at have had bad food i went to 1 in San Diego that had a good rep the scallops had sand in them :P
This was such an awesome video and you are just so lovely.
As a family that have food allergies resturants are frightening places. Enjoyed the video.
Hmm you mentioned ding tai fung, when I visit the OC that place and kitakata ramen bar are staples of mine. Tim ho wan served solid dim sum when I tried them.
I’ve been to that capital before. I felt the food was decent but the staff were very unwelcoming. My group and I felt so rushed by them, like they wanted us to leave asap. The place wasn’t even busy
This was a lot of fun and great idea! Do more of these😀
Love your review vlog. Do more! I think you do an excellent job as a food critic.
That waiter from the last restaurant seemed really sweet.
I wonder if the experience at the last one would've been different if there were more patrons there. I imagine it might be different on a night when it's more crowded
This was so creative! Great job!😊
Yes I agree you should just go in no camera or notebook you will get a truer experience then
I wouldn’t be able to make a video for u then! 😉
Rice should not be sour. I hope it was sour cream and that you didn’t get sick
Just skipped to some of your earlier videos. Would love to see you do more of these.
hong kong style chow mein you should toss everything together. mixing up all the sauce, the veggie and the noodles together.
If I saw hair in my food, I would give them 1 star. That's super nasty and major turn off for me!
when i looked at the reviews for the Siena Cucina place, it seems like one of the chefs are just incompetent or something. everyone says the waiters are really sweet and charismatic, but sometimes the food isn't good.
Love this concept.
More of these pleaseeeee
I agree I second this
Awesome video! Should make this into a series. The hair in the food would gross me out too.
love this video a lot! so fun and entertaining!
I just found your channel and I loved this video. New happy subbie
Welcome and thank you for watching!
I really liked this video. What if you went in not dressed up, no camera or notebook just with your recording glasses. I wonder if their reaction would be different and would the service be the same? 😊

I’m def not sure but would be interesting to go back normally and see!
I really like this video. I heard yelp reviews are not very accurate. Like you mentioned, an incident can cause a barrage of negative reviews.
Is that restaurant called Cucina Italiana? I live in Long Beach so maybe I will go check it out!!
awesome video, I love the Rosemead region food places.
Great video. But businesses need to be proactive and update their all their social media info
