- With the Nine now in BeamNG Drive, we try a classic inspired car chase as my bootlegger car has to try and away from a variety of police vehicles.

Were things really that bad for the flathead V8s?
@@ThisGuy-ls3cxfrom what i watched, apparently. Especially the early models which still used the capillary effect for coolant flow....... but at the same time, water pump is a common modification even for the model T
@@ThisGuy-ls3cx yes. all flathead motors once you worked them. theres a reason the stock bootlegger config only has so much power. head design has the hot exhaust gases right next to the intake inside the head.
@@ThisGuy-ls3cx The inner exhaust ports on Ford's Flathead V8 were siamesed together, which is why it looks like a V6 since only three pipes are there. This created a hot spot that could blow the head gaskets and even crack the block itself if the engine was worked too hard.
The middle two cylinders on each bank exhaust ports were connected and ran through a coolant jacket (this is also why it only has 3 exhaust ports on each side) which got the coolant rather hot. There was a mod people did back in the day that involved having a custom camshaft made, putting carburetors on the exhaust ports, and exhaust pipes on what used to be the intake ports turning the engine into a "Hot V" configuration and keeping the hot middle ports cool. The flathead V8 had its issues but the culture it created by making the V8 cheap and accessible to the masses is what really kicked American car culture into gear. Edlebrock's first product was an intake manifold for it too
the whole moonshine stuff is supposed to take place at night, this could ne interesting!
So it's... sunshine?
Imagine being back in the 1910’s-20’s… not having anywhere near any sort of decent road/highway infrastructure until the 50’s and doing this, just trying to get booze for the boys. On top of that.. you’re armed, the cops are armed, and its open season on bootleggers.. I keep imagining whenever he gets surrounded by the chasers in the first few rounds, being absolutely blasted by tommy guns. Swiss cheese.
Tommy guns are somewhat over represented in media. In reality only the biggest gangs and police forces had them and even then there were only a few. A single Thompson cost as much as a used car, so most bootleggers used revolvers or sawn-off double barrel shotguns and most police ambushes were pistols, Winchester pump shotguns, and the occasional BAR or Lewis gun.
Would make more sense if this was on dirt/gravel roads but other than that, cool ! Also would be interesting if you tried similar challenge with cars that have realistic (to the period) power.
Yea, the American Roads map would have been a great choice for this.
The map Texas would be great for thus
sure, what an exciting video that would be.. ... 5mins to get to the full 45 mph. there is a reason he didnt do this video that way.
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin We gonna see how NASCAR had begun.
Nobody asked but I think "We gonna see how NASCAR had begun" fits better
@@sweetpepino1907 I'm just the music man 😀
am i right in saying this was the beginning of Car modding culture?
@@jayamd3579 In a sense, throw the biggest engine in a normal looking car to be able to outrun the police while carrying and hiding moonshine
Bootlegger cars were usually stripped to hold more moonshine and had their engines replaced with any V8. I live just off of the old Thunder Road. Oddly enough I have to use the Thunder road to go to the closest store to get my 80 proof liquor which is government taxed. When it is available I still buy the real moonshine, but I have some friends lab test it first.
lab test it? atp just buy from the store 😭
28:24 Classic scene looking back at all the cars
This entire sequence down the runway and through the trees was hilarious
29:21 You’re supposed to stir the drinks AFTER you pour them, not when they’re still in the bottles!
Theres an idea for "Survive the Hunt" 1920's Theme you have to "carry" Moonshine and you have to blow up a number of cars before you get flee to a bunker were you deliver the "Moonshine"
A sea of Flivvers
@@danpaul4975 lmaoo, Alex's worst nightmare.
the blimp was fun, but doesn't turn :)
To be expected lol. hi shados
This in a lotus carlton mod would be marvelous
Or in FH5. At night😮
In assetto
Hmm funny timing, I was just talking with the owner of a Ford V8 Flathead, the guy on
AutoEsoterica about his 36 ford with a 49 ford motor in it, and then you do a cop chase in beam NG drive OF a ford flat head, funny old world that, also it turns out that they hardened the valve seals and the intakes of them pre 51, so you can actually run it on normal modern gas, although they do really overheat like that with the earlier version of the motor, so that is actually accurate lol
and he's still having vapor lock problems with it, which might explain how hot rodding and removing the hood came about, it literally might have been purely practical in nature
nice car though, like the interior is genuinely nice
I would like to see more of that. 60`s Police chase next ?
it's not a blimp, it's a Zeppelin! lol
But is it made of Lead?
@@HekkenDarkstormnah the myth busters already did that.
*GASP* A zellepin?!?
"This new fashioned dirigible will banish crime to the pages of history!"
Excellent video brother! My grandfather hopped up flatheads for fellas running shine. He also hot rodded the sheriff's cars too 😆 so he made money both ways
Man the Nine is probably my new favorite Beam car, I just love pre war cars and I hope we get to see a couple more for the game, maybe a 1929 Cadillac V-63 inspired one, or something even more obscure like a Duesenberg
"Put your trousers on sunshine, you're nicked..."
The section using the motorway for a speed run is a very good, if possibly inadvertent, illustration of how stock car racing, and eventually NASCAR, began in the US, with the bootleggers bragging about how they escaped the law by driving so fast on whatever road and the other bootleggers not believing them so they'd end up racing each other on certain roads to find out whose car could really do what and which driver had the most skill and the biggest balls.
One of the legendary names in NASCAR was a bootlegger of repute. His favoured car was a Ford business coupe fitted with a Cadillac V8 engine and gearbox, a properly quick vehicle for those times, unsurprisingly when you consider that lump was intended for big sedans and limos weighing at least double a standard Ford of that type. As for the brakes, well, you didn't stop, you just went everywhere in a four wheel drift if the law was involved.
I don't know why, but every time the police show up in this I can just hear James May saying "cripes, it's the Albanian rozzers..." 🤔🤣
This is pretty much how NASCAR, and Stock Car racing began. Moonshiners running from the police in North Carolina. It’s also the reason my family ended up in VA, my Great Great Grandfather was a Moonshiner and fled from NC to VA.
Yeah... it's pretty deeply American that an entire racing industry was born out of smugglers who needed to go legit. No hate on NASCAR or anything, but know your roots.
@@michaelchenault3693 NASCAR fans are pretty familiar with where it came from, they won't stop bitching about wanting to "go back to their roots" and then bitch about it when NASCAR does exactly that
@@worcestershirey it doesn't help that new cars are the most boring shit in existence thanks ti fuel economy and safety standards
@@manitoba-op4jx what, would you rather watch racers get washed out of their cars with a fire hose after a 200mph pileup?
Now THAT... looked like A TON of fun!!!!!!
I play around with the Nine enough that I've found certain engine configurations, a limited slip differential and lowest final drive will let you go over 100mph for a bit longer.
It's not the more modern V8 I use though.
Depending on the engine configuration on the period accurate V8, you can switch from a mechanical fan to electric for the radiator.
Aren’t you supposed to run moonshine at night?
BeamNG night mode sucks... That's all I'll say
this was great! very much enjoyed this one
This gives me alot of mafia 2 vibes and i did enjoy watching this video very impressive
What's funny is that I believe the very first FailRace episode I ever watched was a bootlegger chase with a derelict yellow ford coupe!
When an Orca pod tries to take down a Minke Whale, they each take turns going at it to exhaust it, swapping out Orcas to rest. For this reason I feel trying to make a pack of police overheat will not work!
I wanna see more videos and challenges done with the Nine, it's such a funky car and really fun to watch it move around.
So much fun, and a great look at how entertaining and fun STH style videos in Beam can be, obviously with much more focus on chases and car damage to hunters and runner than the stealth of GTA STH. Actually I think the first STH style videos I came across were Car Mighty's who does some absolutely banger STH chases in Beam.
Ive been waiting for another bootleggers race for years
One of the reasons they had their bonnets/hoods up could be to try to cool their engines better.
The bootlegger reminds me of my 1934 crown victoria coupe.😊 nice video, Thanks.
Removing the hood would have helped a bit with cooling before changing everything
I don't think beam has that simulated though.
map is River Highway
Great chases here
What map is this? Loved the video btw
Great chase! I love this theme!
Could you please do some more Forza Horizon 4 or 5 chases like this or more themed chases.
I really loved the Forza Horizon 4 chases from a few years ago!
Could you do a Cannonball run themed chase?
I Havnt even watched yet, but I can tell this will be a good one!
at 29:33 defiantly harry potter... also before that, and throughout had the feeling... the dark forests are no joke!
we need more of this please
Yea soon as i seen he put 160 hp in that shitbox, i sayed to myself 'hes gonna overheat before he can do anything'.
The radiator in that car is horrible.
Great video! You should try and hide behind a building
Gotta make sure the Revenuers don't get theirs.
7:55 The engine was red but went to orange and cooled down, so you might have been able to refire it.
Alex immediately being very British by driving on the wrong side of the road.😂😂😂
It's an alternate universe America, where they drive on the left side of the road
Honestly at this point you need to start recording the chaser's discord call and povs to splice in for more context and entertainment.
I don't remember seeing these scenes the last time I saw Bonnie And Clyde. I guess Warren Beatty is busy rewriting the script as I speak.
love this new car only wish it had more options. overheating is one of the big problem
It's realistic in the sense that aftermarket parts were probably pretty rare. The customer frame is the only reasonable option.
i really loved this one
Runnin shine, baby.
Yes, more of this
RUN ALEX RUN!
29:18 Famous last words.
29:19 curse of the commentator right there.... lol
Helllllooo and welcome toooo the SHOooowwwwww. My ex loved that bit the most
That was great. That map looks good as well, what is it called?
I believe this is River Highway. It's on the Beam repo. It came out a while ago, but it gets updated periodically. It's a giant 8x8km map with lots of cool stuff, but still a small(ish) file size and runs well on mid-spec machines.
@@StoryWeaver3701 it is. it's like the roane county map but it doesn't suck
Is there a hot air balloon the hunters could use for a spotter 😄. Keep it all in the same style.
I'd love to live in a town like that
Only thing missing is a Blocker. 👊👊
Issues with traction, issues with brakes....more power...
I think the strategy with the brukell is to stay off sight and book it if there's no police car kinda playing "hide and seek" with the cops I think thats a great strategy but only maps where its possible I think its this map and west coast USA i dont know if this helped
Your problem is driving Hard BEFORE you are spotted. Go forth, be with God, be safe from evil. "in the form of melted engines."
alchol runrr :)
Crime doesn't pay!
I wander if they had the hoods open to help keep the engines cooler
i would like to see more of these but if you lose you get to change to a better car and same with the chasers is they lose
Alex did a bootleggers chase back in FH4.
Good fun.
An opportunity to try some vintage stock-car racing? I presume this game has some cinder ovals..?
Forza Horizon 4 vibes.
fun! :D
what map is this
the worst curse of the commentator i've seen for a while XD
All I can think of is that he's in the wrong lane on the map.
I find their lack of using the flashing lights disturbing
Junior Johnson Simulator.
Also, yeah, I tried to make a vintage Modified stock car first day I had this update, and it liked to get warm.
Pls do more like videos this
Would've been more fun with period correct engine power and map.
A blimp?
I think you mean The FRPD Floaty Thing of Obtrusiveness
FliverWars!
What blimp mod is that? I would love to fly a blimp in BeamNG, but I haven't heard of anything like that.
Blues 🕶🕶 Brothers episode when?
I know whos in that blimp. o///o
Can't wait for the day of native Beam MP, that framerate hurts.
No wonder its overheating its revving to 6500rpm!
Do u have an own BeamMP server so we can do police chase
My moustache would like a word with you sir if you could please step out OF the vehicle.
Just ditch the flathead V8, and upgrade any other engine... Because the flathead V8, well, let´s just say that instead of nitrous oxide injection into the engine, it much more lacks the liquid nitrogen injection into the coolant...
what map is that? It looks like quite a lot of fun
Is this multiplayer or AI police?
Do it for the booze :D
I want to do something like this, but how do you set something like this up?
can we get another bulldog episode
Fail using the wrong vehicle for a moonshine run. It is a wagon or truck that was used back in the day for moonshine, not cars. Cars were used for cigarette smuggling. For guns, it was 6 wheeler big trucks.
Actually, they *did* use cars as well.
As the person above said.
Though trucks and wagons were more for moving equipment or product in safer areas without police.
Cars were regularly used. In fact "business coupes" were sold by most manufacturers. These were 2-door coupes with a lot platform instead of a back seat and often no partition between the back seat and the trunk so you could haul tools or goods safely inside the car. Take one of these, hop up the engine and put strong springs on the back for the weight of the moonshine and you are ready to go.
I was talking about moonshine, which they use wagons to get more than a single case. You can smuggle more cigarettes in a car, then moonshine.
There's no reason they couldn't have put moonshine in the back and they absolutely did if they needed to
