In most cases… adding an active preamp will be all you need if the pickups are still 100% working. Sometimes depending on the age of the bass the pickups could be failing.
I want to replicate this exact project. Do you think I'd be better off trying to go for the 18 volt set up? I don't really understand the pros/cons of using the 18v setup

Thank you Sir. plugged into a Avalon Bass Di and which is plugged directly into an old Focusrite Compressor then into a Roland GoMixer to get the sound to my iPhone from which I record most of my videos.
What ever the customer request. Most of the popular pres like, Aguilar OBP3, Bartolini, Audere, EMG, Mike Pope. It totally depends on what type of bass and the type of pups the bass has. For it to work correctly, the preamp must marry the pups.

Jonathan Pearson 9 volts is totally enough headroom unless you’re wanting to introduce distortion or like changing out 2 batteries.
