Excellent advice & video. Using this procedure, managed to switch off the DPF light on my Mazda 6. Had to repeat this 3 times before it worked. Saved myself a fortune. Thank you very much.
Hi thank you for this video. I just spent a whole heap of money to regenerate, clean and soak my dpf because it keeps flashing. My mechanic who is not a mazda specialist says the light might be on but guarantees the dpf fine. If I do this fix, would it be bypassing any other issues? And I guess, come on again in 13k miles?
I can't speak for international models, (Mine is a Japanese built Australian model) But the DPF light does double as the "Service Light" It comes on a set intervals (every 10,000km for the Aus model) as a service reminder. Running this method to reset the DPF light will turn the light off until the next service interval. Just remember the light is also used for other reasons such as: Faulty DPF. Poor oil condition. Stretched timing chain. And also, any recorded OBD codes. So, after running this reset, if the light returns before the next service interval, then there's a good chance that something else is wrong.
Just want to say thanks again. I use this all the time. My 6 has just ticked over 300k and I'm sure its because I've done this and not let the mechanics do a "burn". My las t mechanic said " The car won't let me reset the light, we have to do a burn" i said no ty ill sort it. Less than 2 mins to sort thanks to you.
Probably not. If you've got airbag light, check the error code using an ELM327 device. It should tell you the fault. And it's probably something that Mazda would have to fix.
In a new version of this video here: ua-cam.com/video/jbi9bvGwGjM/v-deo.html I explain some of the reasons the light can come on. It can come on for DPF Fault, it can come on for Stretched timing chain, it can come on for "too much oil" (oil above the x marker on the dipstick. However, it's most common reason for illumination (every 10,000km) is because it's being used as the Service light. You should connect an ELM 327 and check for codes. If there's no codes, it's just the service light.
It shouldn't. As the light is programmed to come on every 10,000 or so km, to tell you that your service is due. So, it will return after another 10,000km. Its always good to check with an ELM327 device to see if the car has recorded any other faults though. (See the video in the pinned comment on how to do that)
It works. And be careful, if your mazda shows dpf light you must take care of this problem in 800km cause its gonna do emergency shutdown. (Said a guy in the official mazda service). Thank you for the video.
Amazing video just worked for me... the car never had a solid light went straight to flashing so hopefully it was just the service light and no actual problem with the dpf

Is it possible to cover the real issue with DPF? I mean, if I have real problem with DPF, use your way to reset, would signal come back, or problem gonna stay hidden? Thank you.
To check is you have a real DPF issue, simply plug in an ELM327 reader into your car (under the steering wheel) and use an app like OBD Auto Doctor to read the error codes from the cars onboard computer. If it says there's no error codes, it's just the service light. If it's a real DPF issue, there will be a code. I will be making a new video on this in the next few months.
Flashing DPF lights on the 2.2 can also mean a stretched timing chain is a found out..Expensive fix. It's always worth checking on the diagnostic before clearing it ..
@@265justy Last I was told the stretched timing chain issue affected the GG Mazda6, and was fixed by the time of the GH Mazda6. But yes, always use an ELM-327 device and check for codes first. If no codes stored, then it's just the service light and it's safe to reset.

Everything I've seen refers to bad/stretched timing chains in the *GG* model mazda6. I believe it was fixed in the *GH* Model. The car in the video above is my personal GH Series2 Mazda6. It's never had an issue with its timing chain and it's done 330,000 KM (205,000 Mi) on its chain with no issues.

@@superthierry1 unfortunately I'm no expert. I can only speak about my car from my own experience with it. So all my video would be is: _Needs expensive after-market parts installed in the rear end to be able to adjust the rear camber. I've done over 300,000 KMs and it's only ever needed a replacement AC compressor at 280,000 KM, and a battery about every 5 years_
If there are restrictions currently active, check your car for codes using an ELM327 device. (See this video for instructions: ua-cam.com/video/jbi9bvGwGjM/v-deo.html ) As restrictions would indicate that it's not just the simple service light, and that something else may have gone wrong. As this light can mean many things, such as: Service Due. DPF Fault. Stretched timing chain. Oil condition bad. Oil above "X" marker on the dipstick. And many other things. Checking with an ELM327 device should let you know if it's a major issue or not.
I believe there is a way to do it, although it's different. I do not know the method for bush-button start. I have done a bit of Googling and have not found any method to do it for Push Button Start. You could probably ask on www.mazdaforum.com and they might know the answer.
Brillant !! Worked like charm.. recently I had oil change serviced, I think mechanics may not reseat counter by purpose? So a few weeks later you would ask them for help? I remember that first time 3y ago I was in that situation.. and regeneration was performed.. but year later I asked to reseat counter and no problem only now it happened again wit new staff.. That make you think.. I travel to work 60km daily above 2000rpm so...
Don't forget to check the new version of this video ua-cam.com/video/jbi9bvGwGjM/v-deo.html which has more information on the other reasons why the light can come on, and how to diagnose those issues.

Hi looking for some advice..im looking at purchasing a mazda 6 estate 2.2L diesel....id only be doing approx 12/15km a year....would I have issues doing that milege?? Cheers
Actually, now that i think about it, A couple of things come to mind. 1. If there's long times between drives, your battery may go flat on its own between drives. (Mine holds a charge for about 2 weeks, but i do have a few modifications that use power even when my car is off) 2. If you live in a country where it snows through winter. (Or even just gets really cold) then you should know that Service Stations get different diesel at different times of year. and the reason is Freezing. Diesel sold in winter has additives that stop it from freezing as easily as diesel that is sold in the summer. So, Buying Diesel in Summer, it may freeze up more often trying to use that diesel in winter.
Another thing to add about the Mazda6 GH MZR-CD is that you don't have to do really long trips to clean the dpf. This particular car has a "constantly regenerative DPF" - And what that translates into in this particular model is that it injects diesel on the exhaust stroke and ignights it to heat up the dpf, which cleans it wherever needed. Instead of the awful idea of "just go on a long highway trip to get it hot enough" that most other brands use. But, that being said, because if the Diesel injection on exhaust stroke system, you absolutely have to change your oil every 10,000km Because the diesel gets around the rings and contaminates the oil more frequently. The last thing you want is a diesel runaway situation. So, monitor the dipstick, it has three markers, low, full and "X" - if it hits X you must immediately change the oil. as enough diesel has got around the rings and into the oil to increase the level to the point of X.
@@mpdeviney yep....have it a week now and really enjoying it. Its like a bullet on the motorway and handling is lovely. I might look into servicing it myself...its somthing id be interested in plus id get to know the car better. Are you enjoying your car?
Hey mate, does this work on 2008 mazda 3 MRZ-CD? I bought from someone who told me fuel pump is gone, so she didn't know what going on, but there's no power going to the fuel pump or low beams, so it may have been driving for more than the allowed time with DPF Light on, ECU might have just shut it off.
Nah, all this does is reset the service light (which is also the DPF light), which comes on at fixed intervals. Sounds like you've got a lot more going on that just the service light. I'd check the error codes with an ELM327 OBDII device, and use it with an app such as OBD Auto Doctor, ( play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.obdautodoctor ) and that will give you a much better idea of what's going on.
Good advise if it's for a service. However the dpf light shouldn't be ignored - Mazda in their wisdom also use a flashing dpf light to notify you of a stretched timing chain!!!! Do not ignore or reset it, plug your car into some diagnostics and read the code, anything relating to crankshaft will mean your timing chain is on the way out! Replace it asap! Be safe fellow Mazda diesel drivers!
The stretched timing chain issue was in the GG Mazda6, not the GH. (At least in Australia) And also when the light is flashing for a service, OBD will report *no error codes*
Daniel Fitzgerald sorry but thats not right. If the dpf light is flashing in case of oil change, there should be P0254 recorded in the ecu. Greetings from Germany. Ex Mazda mechanic ✌️
@@DazzaJay The GG Mazda uses the 2.0L engine..not the 2.2 as used in the GH.. The 2.2 has serious timing chain issues and a flashing DPF light could possibly mean the timing chain is in trouble. It's happened to me and many others. I have been driving Mazdas all my life..I have had 2 × 323Fs BA & BG models , MX-3, GG 6 ..all petrol .And now the GH 6 diesel & as much as I love the low down torque and power, it has just not been as reliable as my previous Mazda petrols. My wife also has a Mazda 3 BL model 1.6L diesel which is after having a few problems.. Failing to go into regeneration to clear the DPF being it's main problem , so I had it removed. Mazda build great petrol engines , but their diesels are under developed and even the new Skyactive diesels are still having issues.
Detlef Harms: Every single time mine has come on (every 10,000km) there has never been any codes. - so I'm getting the boring old Australian service light.
See the new version of the video, linked in both the pinned comment and the description. It walks you through connecting to OBDII to check for error codes, such as for faults.
This doesnt work for me, the 2 Times to start the regeneration works and the reset of glowplugs works but the dpf light still is bliking, any idea? Last time it happened i did a regeneration and changed oil but it was just a couple of months ago.
If the light continues blinking it can be caused by many things. -Stretched Timing Chain. -Faulty DPF. -Faulty DPF Sensor. -Oil condition bad. -Oil above X Marker on dipstick. And many other things. Check for codes with an ELM327 device, and/or take the car to Mazda. (See the new version of this video linked in the description, as it shows how to check for codes with an ELM327 device.)
@@DazzaJay yes but when i did the forced regeneration last time it went away so if it does after that it should not be anything else right? the timing belt was changed just 2 years ago and it started blinking after the light was constant the day before. when i try to press 10 times the glowplug light starts flashing at like 5 presses, perhaps it tries to reset something else and dont count up to 10?
@@DazzaJay i have earlier done a forced regeneration but now when i try to do it it just cancels after about 10 seconds. Any idea why it does this? I have full tank and the enginge was hot, no lights and AC off, doors closed. How can it start the regeneration and just turn off. Does it do that when it is so badly filled? All help much appriciated! :)
It really depends. The light comes on every 10,000 km to tell you the car needs a service. It can also come on for a huge list of other issues. Too much oil. Bad quality oil. DPF Fault. And many others. Which is why in the new version of this video (link in the description) I also show how to check the car for other issues before performing the reset.
I don't know for sure, BUT I did follow the instructions for the American Built version. Even though my car is a Japanese built version. So, if the Japanese one and the US one are the same, I don't see why the euro model would be different.
Hi I tried this on my mazda it worked but the light came back on 3 days later I tried it again and it absuletly will not put out the light again is there anything else that works
It should, BUT, the fact that it's started flashing shortly after a service could mean something else. Either they forgot to reset it, OR, much worse things. Check your oil level. if it's above the line marked with an X, then that's bad. It could also mean they put the wrong oil in it. Or even that your timing chain has started to stretch. There's a few other things in the Description of the video that the same light can mean.

However, it's most common reason for illumination (every 10,000km) is because it's being used as the Service light.
You should connect an ELM 327 and check for codes. If there's no codes, it's just the service light.
I didn't thought it will work but surprisingly it worked, thank you very much. Will this cause any further issues, like engine seizure or something??
It shouldn't. As the light is programmed to come on every 10,000 or so km, to tell you that your service is due. So, it will return after another 10,000km.
Its always good to check with an ELM327 device to see if the car has recorded any other faults though. (See the video in the pinned comment on how to do that)
Worked a treat, took a few goes to get the wiring connection right with the wire i had available but great video and great result
It works. And be careful, if your mazda shows dpf light you must take care of this problem in 800km cause its gonna do emergency shutdown. (Said a guy in the official mazda service). Thank you for the video.
I'm lazy, I often drive up to 5,000km after the light starts before I service the car and then reset the light.
Amazing video just worked for me... the car never had a solid light went straight to flashing so hopefully it was just the service light and no actual problem with the dpf
Still fine?

This is amazing, love the help mate. Worked like a charm on my 2010 mazda 2,2l. Thumps up mate!
Great video, my DPF light is now out!
@@DazzaJay Ok. Tnx for answering.

Hi
I have a Mazda 5 2010 - cannot see that slot in the fusebox...?
Is covered with a capsel.. maybe?
Hey quick question are the 2.2 d engines reliable as I’ve heard some horror stories regarding the timing chains. I’m looking to buy the Mazda 6 sport 2.2 D 180bhp so at the moment I’m holding back until I’m sure this car is good to go. Cheers Mo London. Uk🇬🇧

So all my video would be is:
_Needs expensive after-market parts installed in the rear end to be able to adjust the rear camber. If you do a lot of highway driving it will eat rear tyres without adjusting the rear camber._
_Seems reliable. I've done over 300,000 KMs and it's only ever needed a replacement AC compressor at 280,000 KM, and a battery about every 5 years_

Does this work on 07 mazda 6 mzr cd 2lt turbo diesel an will it lift any engine restrictions that may have occurred due to this light flashing?
If there are restrictions currently active, check your car for codes using an ELM327 device. (See this video for instructions: ua-cam.com/video/jbi9bvGwGjM/v-deo.html )
As restrictions would indicate that it's not just the simple service light, and that something else may have gone wrong.
As this light can mean many things, such as:
Service Due.
DPF Fault.
Stretched timing chain.
Oil condition bad.
Oil above "X" marker on the dipstick.
And many other things.
Checking with an ELM327 device should let you know if it's a major issue or not.

Thanks a lot this video just saved my dad 😂
Hi looking for some advice..im looking at purchasing a mazda 6 estate 2.2L diesel....id only be doing approx 12/15km a year....would I have issues doing that milege?? Cheers
No idea. I'm not a Mechanic.
Actually, now that i think about it, A couple of things come to mind.
1. If there's long times between drives, your battery may go flat on its own between drives. (Mine holds a charge for about 2 weeks, but i do have a few modifications that use power even when my car is off)
But, that being said, because if the Diesel injection on exhaust stroke system, you absolutely have to change your oil every 10,000km
Because the diesel gets around the rings and contaminates the oil more frequently.
@@mpdeviney Keep up with oil services and make sure you use the correct oil. These engines are very oil fussy.
(At least in Australia)
And also when the light is flashing for a service, OBD will report *no error codes*
@@DazzaJay exactly! Best to read to codes before resetting anything!

I've made my service 3month ago by mazda. They resetted the service, but now the lamp is flashing again. Would it work for me?
It should, BUT, the fact that it's started flashing shortly after a service could mean something else.
Either they forgot to reset it, OR, much worse things.
Check your oil level. if it's above the line marked with an X, then that's bad.
It could also mean they put the wrong oil in it.
Or even that your timing chain has started to stretch.
There's a few other things in the Description of the video that the same light can mean.
It worked perfectly! Many thanks 🙏
