Whenever I catch myself laughing or enjoying a moment, I immediately pull myself away from joy because I brainwashed myself into thinking that happiness is a waste of time and that seriousness is the only thing that has served me. I have learned to accept my joy that could arrive at any moment.
I used to think this was strange, until I lost multiple people and pets close to me and fell into a general depressed state. It feels guilty to be happy.
Denying joy when it comes to you is a form of self-harm. I hope that the next time joy comes to you, you are able to recognize it and allow it to happen. Peace.
