  • We drove through Vedauwoo Rd in the Medicine Bow National Forest in Wyoming, where we camped for two weeks in June 2022. It is free designated dispersed camping on this road. If you stop and pick up a map at the beginning of the area (you will see in video), there are many dispersed areas to camp. We were at 8,200 feet in altitude, so breathing was a bit of an issue from time to time. We saw two baby moose, but did not get it on camera. Bugs (flies and mosquitos particularly) were bad there! We had beautiful weather for the majority of the time there. Sometimes the wind would pick up but was not too bad.

Just got back from spending 2 weeks at Vedauwoo dispersed camping. Loved it and had no bug issues at all.

We really did love it there. We plan on ending our summer with our last two weeks back at Vedauwoo. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

IMO, the dispersed camping sites along Blair Road (a couple miles to the NW of Vedawoo Rd.) and along the secondary roads between them are better because there is much less traffic than along Vedawoo Rd.. That said, if you have a big rig it may be harder to get in..
There would be cattle trucks in the area because ranchers have grazing permits to place their cattle on National Forest land for certain periods of time. The cattle trucks would be taking the cattle to or from the grazing areas.
    Greetings from Laramie.

FYI: Campsite #4 is also utilized by climbers who are used to coming in every day & parking right next to your RV. Their favorite rock is nearby. So no privacy at #4.

Thanks for your comment! We aren't sure what people want to see when they watch videos. Sometimes it is nice to see a drive through so you know what to expect when you drive up into it. Thanks for watching and enjoy your time there!

I always look for videos of campgrounds to help plan our trips. It is great when I find someone like you that does a drive through.

I boondocked there for 2 weeks, 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. We stayed at the first boondocking spot across from the rock-climbing area where the 2 vehicles are stopped, and the j shaped black pipe protrudes from the ground. Be sure and dive through the paid campground, as the rock formations there are really beautiful. There is free water spigot available to fill your tank at the next exit toward Laramie, by the Lincoln Memorial Monument, so you don't have to hand pump it like at the campground.

Thanks for this look at the dispersed camping! I wanted to camp there last summer, but it just didn't work out for my 7 week trip especially with the extreme high temps. I may try again this year.
