It’s amazing how much stadium names have changed over the last quarter century. Gone are the days of naming a stadium after something meaningful to the organization or the city they play in.
Nowadays, it’s all about which company is willing to fork over the most money to get the name of their brand plastered in giant letters on the front of an NFL venue.
It has certainly diminished the aura around many of these NFL stadiums, but there are still some pretty great names out there...along with some absolutely terrible ones.

The big reason why Cincinnati's venue is called Paul Brown Stadium was because Brown was fired from the Cleveland Browns by owner Art Modell and P.B. pretty much founded the Bengals out of spite.
Yep. Makes way more sense to call Cinci's stadium Paul Brown Stadium for a multitude of reasons. Dumb video.

Everyone here in Pittsburgh will still call it Heinz Field. Hell, the one concert venue out here kept losing sponsors because everyone called it by its original name, to the point its called that again.

A different sport, but I was so sad when Miller's naming rights for Miller Park (Milwaukee Brewers) expired. It was the perfect corpo partnership for a team named after beer making. It was also nicknamed "the keg" by many fans, which also great

The Steelers didn’t want to buy the Acrisure naming rights. They had to though because they were outbidding Heinz. Art Rooney Did say that they are hoping to change it back. Plus the guy that owns Acrisure is a Steelers fan

I love Paul Brown Stadium's name as an honor to the founder of the Bengals and true coaching icon. I sincerely hope they never change it. We don't need more corporate named stadiums that mean nothing. Cinergy Field was OK back in the day, but I just love Paul Brown Stadium.

@@Straleyy pretty sure it will never change either. Paul Brown probably wrote that in his will to name the next stadium after him in order to remember who really started the Browns (also a legend of modernizing football) 😂
Almost spit my coffee out when it was on the list of the worst names and then finally did when he said the Browns should have the name. No clue about football history there. Bengals makes way more sense to have the name- and it's a great stadium name.
Paul Brown is responsible for the creation of two separate major league franchises. No one in baseball, basketball or hockey can say that.

Paul Brown's son Mike is the owner and GM of the Bengals, hence the stadium name. I'm sure he'd just as soon dig up Art Modell's (he fired Paul Brown from the Browns) grave and piss on the bones than sell the naming rights to Cleveland.

As a Chiefs fan, I think that Arrowhead Stadium is one of the best names for a football stadium. But the “GEHA” is totally unnecessary
Yeah I agree with you. Arrowhead stadium is cool until they change the name to geha stadium which is dumb. I but I still called them arrowhead stadium.

Fun fact: because Green Bay is such a small city, the Packers used to play 3 games a year (1 preseason, 2 regular season) at Milwaukee's "County Stadium", and they sold tickets to these games separately. However, when County Stadium was closed in the 90s, the Milwaukee fans wanted to keep their tickets. So the team said "Fine, but you'll have to come up to Lambeau from now on." These days, 3 times a year, there is a HUGE traffic jam for the entire 120-mile stretch between the two cities to get to the sold-out game.

As a Chief fan I agree that adding GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium is not a good name for our Stadium. I was much better when it was just called Arrowhead Stadium.

As a chiefs fan for 13 years now, i was heartbroken when they changed the name to GEHA Field at arrowhead. There were rumours for a couple years after we paid mahomes that it would happen tho
Say what you want about GEHA, at least everyone still calls it arrowhead. As a Steelers fan I’m heartbroken at the new name ACRISURE stadium. At least I know it’s not permanent and we can always take the chiefs route.
Well idk much about how names work but all ik that teams sign deals with sponsorships like the Staple center had to change it's name after many years due to the sponsorship expiring. Like eventually after many years allegiant stadium will change it's name when it's sponsorship runs out. Don't worry champ it will always be arrowhead stadium in everyone's hearts just how the Lakers arena will always be staplecenter
I was bummed too when we did it, but at least they held out for a while before giving in! The fact they didn't jump on the bandwagon when it first started trending counts for something..

Why, oh why, did the Steelers change their name from Heinz Field to ACRISURE Stadium?
One word: Money.
As a Jags fan there hasn't been much to be happy about . When I grew up Everbank Field was such a great name and I had fond memories there. Nowadays the name TIAA Bank Field doesn't have the ring to it. Anyways, one thing about be a true fan is being loyal and I for damn sure will not be deterred from supporting my team through everything.

How is Soldier field not on this list? Besides Lambeau it's the longest running name.

@@cheat_code2292 it was named in dedication to soldiers who died in WW1 back in 1925. One of few remaining that is not named after a corporate sponsor. And the longest named stadium. With Lambeau being second longest.

Man I feel old. Grew up when the Dolphins home field was called Pro player park and Pro Player Stadium. To this day I still call it Pro Player Stadium
Personally I like MetLife Stadium name. MetLife is an insurance company that represents the New York-New Jersey Metropolitan area, And since the stadium is located at the heart of that area on the Jersey side just minutes from New York - The name actually fits like a glove. BEST

Buffalo Bills went from Ralph Wilson Stadium to “New Era Field” and then onto HighMark Stadium ehh
Soilder Field is a great name. And it's actually a law in the books in Colorado that the football stadium has to have 'at Mile High' in its name if it has a corporate name attached to it
I think you guys need to do this for each league, including MLS.
Also, Acrisure went for the naming rights because their only other option was to associate themselves with the Detroit Lions.
ALL stadiums had better names before the sponsorship era.

What was not mentioned is that the Hard Rock Cafe (as well as the Hard Rock Casinos) is owned by the Seminole Nation, which of course, is in Florida.
Hard Rock is also based in Hollywood Florida

The Football Gods are punishing Cincinnati and Cleveland for dissing the AFL. Art Modell said he would never let the Denver Broncos play in Cleveland. The first team to shutout the Browns at home in the regular season was Denver. Need I mention the Drive and the Fumble? Paul Brown said he took an AFL franchise just to get back in the NFL. Cleveland fans decried the move to the AFC, saying they were joining the inferior league. Brown and Cleveland fans forgot where they came from. They got their start in the old AAFC, which the NFL called inferior.

I always thought "Georgia Dome "was a horribly unimaginative name. I think "Peach Dome "would have been a much better name, especially since the Peach Bowl was played there, until Chik-Fil-A bought the rights to the game.

As a browns fan we understand why the bengals honor Paul Brown. Because former browns owner and current ravens owner Art Model decided to fire Paul Brown in his Prime. So he went to Cincinnati and made a team to rival Art's team. That's also why the colors are almost the same. So naming the field after the team founder makes sense to me
Art Modell has been dead for 10 years and Bisciotti has owned the Ravens since 2004.
As a Chiefs fan, I 100% agree with where you put Arrowhead on this list. It’s an incredible name that we were proud of, and then they ruined it by selling out to GEHA. I hope they get rid of it one day, but I doubt it :(

Alright, no one likes that Arrowhead became GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs took a lot of backlash for it. But the idea behind finding this sponsor was actually pretty smart. With everyone going “woke” and changing team names, logos, etc. there has been speculation that the Chiefs will fall on someone’s radar. Arrowhead isn’t a sponsor, it’s simply a name. Throw in a sponsor with naming rights like GEHA, it protects the name “Arrowhead Stadium”. The general consciences here in KC was if the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians didn’t get forced to change by the woke crowd, Arrowhead wouldn’t have sold its naming rights.
Thank god Acrisure is a worst. All of us Steeler fans hate the name. At least there is an agreement for having the Heinz RedZone now, but I will always remember that stadium as Heinz Field.

The reason stadiums get named after financial institutions is because they have the money to finance a stadium. Also, Caesar's Superdome is not named after Julius Caesar, but after a casino named Caesar's Palace.
I am grateful that, just like we don't have to worry that the Packers will ever play anywhere but in Green Bay, we also don't have to worry that, at least for the near future, do not have to worry that we will watch them anywhere but Lambeau Field

The chiefs for whatever reason we're somewhat forced to change the name. People thought it had something to do with native Americans, but it was called arrowhead because it was the first stadium to use arrowheads indicating the nearest endzone. Look it up.
