    Great idea. Kudos to Blackburn for being creative.

    Don't forget that Blackburn offers lifetime, no questions asked, warranty. I have used it a few times to refurb a friend's ancient pump and a part I lost from one of their lights. They even paid the postage. Blackburn rocks!

    I use the Blackburn. The chain breaker is great and the slot on the back of the chain breaker is a spoke tightener.

    Your thoughts about this separate piece being sold separately have me pondering the idea of a modular multitool. One can dream right? Build your own multitool would be AWESOME!

    Oneup components have a product they call EDC (every day carry) that can be stored in an mtb fork steerer tube or in the handle of one of their own compact tire pumps that has a quick-link breaker. The "sleeve" in which the tool is stored also has space for a spare quick-link.

    The OneUp Components EDC Tool Kit Multi-Tool also features a chain link breaker by craftily using two of the other tools to push the link apart - oh and its got shiny plated tool steel and green anodising.

      Thanks for the headsup. Didn't know about that tool.

    For a portable quick link tool, just use a shoe lace! 😀 wrap it around the link and pull. It that simple.

      +macmurfy2jka will try that and see if it works!

      have not tried it but, one of the tiny zip-ties might be narrow enough to work.

    Thanks for adding your comment about adding the Quicklink tool to the Wayside. I have ordered a Tradesman and was thinking the same thing. I also like the Quicklink storage holder. In your opinion would it be possible to also add that to the Wayside in the form of a Frankentool? There are a couple Wayside tools that I don’t have use for that I hope would free up space for the storage tool. Do you think it will fit?

    A thorough review. Thanks!
    Just picked up an ECR with a matching frame bag. Any must have accessories you’d recommend?

    OMG, quick link removal. I do that when travelling with my S&S bike, I use multitool pliers and it isn't very confidence-inspiring.

    KMC quick link 11 speed fits on the tool, not sure about the other speeds, and I assume they will fit. The Connex link is an odd shape...

      True but the connex link doesn't need a tool to open.

    I do like your suggestions for the tool

    If I am not mistaken both tools miss Philips key. Pity, because otherwise they look really good.

      Does the flat bit not stand in well enough for the Philips?

    • @WanderABit
      @WanderABit 2 роки тому

      @@woolcycle If this was the case why we would need Philips keys at all? Use flat and call it a day. Another perspective -- on a trip the last thing you want is damaging your gear because someone made a saving on proper tools for the job. Anyway, I use CrankBrothers, the only missing piece is chain holder, but there is simple remedy for it (bent spoke).

    Most of the best industrial tools have that carbon finish on them

    I have the impression that when you break a 10-speed or 11-speed quick-link, you will have to use a new one, i.e., the quick links are not reusable, is that true?

    • @PathLessPedaledTV
      @PathLessPedaledTV  7 років тому +3

      I've reused 9spd and 10spd without issue but haven't spent enough time with 11spd. I think manufacturers instructions are for single use.

      I just found some KMC reusable quick links for 10 speed on amazon. I have stayed mostly with 9-speed drivetrain for that reason (also because I only use friction shifters), but now I can at least use 10-speed chains to make the drivetrain even quieter; by the way, it's hard to find the Tradesman online! did you buy one from a LBS?

    Nice to have the link remover but in an emergency you can just break the chain instead

    • @PathLessPedaledTV
      @PathLessPedaledTV  7 років тому

      You can certainly break the chain, but reattaching it afterwards is easier with a quick link rather than pins IMO.

    You talk too darn much for the actual content of your discussion.

      You type a whole lot for not adding anything useful.
