Four stroke units usually have an oil sump which splashes or pumps oil up to lubricate the oil ring on the piston, this engine has no such luxuries, so the 2 stroke fuel mix is essential to supply lubrication to the piston
Isn't that feature awesome Paul! apparently once the engine is 'run-in' it will potato-potato - I cant wait for the weather to warm up so I can run this in the workshop and get it potato tuned ;) ATB Ade
It must require manual lubrication with the open crankcase and valvetrain? hmm it doesn't have a centrifugal spark advance. with the miniature kick starter, a person would break their finger instead of their ankle. LOL!!!
Superb engine and video Ade. I’m not a biker myself, but I’ve had many friends in the past who owned Harley’s. Have you any plans to build a Hoglet yourself? Cheers Nobby
Hi Robert, nice to hear from you! it is a wonderful addition to my collection, I love all of my engines equally of course, I wouldn't want to upset one over another ;)
@@AdeSwash All harley's loose their engine oil in a few miles 🤣... they leak so much oil that it's engine design my as well be called a total loss system 😂😂
potato.. potato.. potato..potato(s) are good for -you- us! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Outstanding. Thank you for the video! Cheers from So.Ca.(crazy)USA 3rd house on the left
The Musa “Hoglet” actually uses a micro reed switch, as opposed to a Hall Effect sensor… the reed switch is much more durable than the H E sensor. I’ve put at least 30 hours on my Musa Hoglet w’ zero issues. Run mine on Coleman white gas & Marvel Mystery Oil. Once you get some hours of run time, she will run even better 🤙
@mhz-yn9gh Thank you so much for that information, I had just assumed it was a hall sensor in a different shape, that makes sense now. I have had no end of trouble with hall sensors so this is good to know, I didn't even know they came that small. It has only about 40 minutes run time so hoping to get her nice and slow once broken in. Thanks Ade
@@AdeSwash No prob, man. -Before my Musa Hoglet engine arrived, I went on a deep dive and searched DigiKey and found the same reed switch Musa uses and ordered one…haven’t ever needed it, lol. The reed switch is definitely less susceptible to a rogue spark or ground issue than the H.E. sensors. Musa also uses a reed switch on the 2.2cc single cylinder ‘walking tractor’ engine, and Cison has been experimenting with reed switches lately on their V2 engines. 🤙
@@mhz-yn9gh - Yeah I found some on fleabay so have got some coming to test, I just dont like the failure rat of the hall effect sensors, too many headaches with those, so I re4ally appreciate your insight. Take good care man!
The engine timing uses a reed switch, not a hall effect sensor as I first thought, this is more reliable than the hall-effect sensor
Thanks for your your amazing video!
Outstanding. Poetry in motion & sound. Thank you for sharing Ade. 👏👏👍😀
Thanks Andrew for your support, it sure is a lovely engine to run, it makes me feel good :)
Great thumbnail and recording, sound etc, well done Ade. Good job getting this from EngineDIY MUSA engines are just outstanding
Hi Thomas, thanks for your comment, it is an awesome little motor. Best Regards. Ade
They do make some incredible engines Ade 👍👍👍 Cheers, Alan.
Hi Alan, Musa-Retrol make awesome mini machines, they give me so much pleasure!
AWESOME video Ade!! I love my hoglet. When you had the slo-mo going, it sounded just like a full siize harley!! Great video, Thanks!!
enjoyed it Ade
cheers
Kev
Cheers Kev, glad you enjoyed it mate! Ade
Cool little engine. Thx for the vid.
Thanks
Beautiful engine. Nice video. I love Harley engines and sounds.
Hiya Mr Rusty, cheers mate, keep well :)
Harley Davidson is a lifestyle, and unfortunately it has diminished some over the years.
Well that is a very fun engine.
Two stroke mix lubricates the bottom end, not the piston.
It shouldn’t matter in a four stroke.
Four stroke units usually have an oil sump which splashes or pumps oil up to lubricate the oil ring on the piston, this engine has no such luxuries, so the 2 stroke fuel mix is essential to supply lubrication to the piston
Thats quite an amazing engine Ade, enjoyed watching this mate - Cheers Jim
Thanks Jim, glad you enjoyed :) ATB Ade
12:17, wow, stunning looking sickle, a great model engine too 👍.
Cheers Vinny :)
So cool you can even tune the timing to get that lopey idle.

Hi Nobby, nice to hear from you, no plans to build the hoglet as such, but many plans rattling around my head. ATB Ade :)
A nice-looking engine. The kick starter is a nice touch!
The Kick-Start is the cherry on the cake :)
At the 10 minute mark you had it idling just like a real Harley.
LOL, that was the slow-mo part
That is a nicely designed model. It looks like a fun addition to your collection

such a engine with 50cc for bicycles would be Wild
Hell Yeah!
@ but in the Uk and Austria it would quickly be confiscated by the Cops i would assume.
@ Probably, but it shouldnt stop us trying,
you could try to couple three of the hoglets to a v6 :)
HD is filing a lawsuit against that total loss oil design crankcase...
@paradiselost9946 Interesting! can you expand?

Looked like the spark plug was loose when you were turning it over.
They were loosened to allow me to turn it by hand without compression
Does it have a 45deg crankshaft?
Yes
Bought and seized in 10min. No bottom end lube😢😢😢
Well yes you need bottom end lube, top end lube, and lube to all moving parts. No bottom end lube can be unnecessarily painful! 😵💫
