    I just adore Mabel Normand. She was ahead of her time in so many ways. It's a shame she's been largely forgotten, but with a lot of her shorts available hopefully more and more people re-discover her and her brilliance.

    Thank you so much for taking the time to post this! You'll get no argument from me regarding the details; I'm just grateful that there are folks passionate about saving these films and keeping the humor alive 100 years later!

    a classic sub-group of the Keystone studios, but sadly underused. Sennett should have mined the many comic treasures this gifted troupe of players had to offer! At
    least, let's give thanks for the films which have been preserved...

    Not the first appearance. Hoffmeyer's Legacy (1912) was the first film they appeared in.

    I suppose the film has been digitally enhanced but it's remarkably sharp. WW2 was still in the distant future when this was made.

      VERY beautiful! Died tragically young and in shabby and ruinous circumstances. Too bad she never tied the knot with once-fiance Mack Sennett, she would have been much better off.

    So nice to see those old cars in action. One thing I noted, though: obesity was already a thing, back then...

    this director, leading lady and movie were mentioned in the UK series, Mr. Selfridge, he had both the director and actress in his store to promote it.

    I found in an online search that the first Keystone Cops comedy was HOFFMEYER'S LEGACY (1912).
    And I'm wondering why BANGVILLE POLICE is considered a proper Keystone Cops entry; it has most of the same Sennett stable of comic actors, but this story is in a rural setting and not in the usual urban setting for the Keystone Cops that I'm familiar with.

    Crazy, innocent fun. Such a shame that Mabel, like so many others couldn't handle the wealth and fame, and got caught up in tragedy.

      Decided to go research Mabel Normand after reading this comment and now i have learnt debatably too much about the film industry in the late 1910s to the late 1920s

    So the KCs are 100 years old? In exactly what part of 1913 did they appear? I would have thought they'd be dead after 100 years, but it seems they are working for my country's immigration ministry

    Not the first Keystone cops film. At It Again (1912) was the first time the full force was on screen. Riley and Schultze (1912) was the first film cops in it. Still a great flick. Read more about the Keystone Cops here.

    The silent era. . There used to be a projection theatre in my town made for silent I think it was built 1920 .... called the kino something , disappeared some time in the 80s. It had been always closed down as I knew it but I did get to look inside because it got to be used as a carpentry workshop was not very large auditorium not enough room for a wurlitzer organ a honky tonk piano more likely.

    I want a 1913 police car!
    And that chick is hot! she needs her eyebrows done though.. unibrow.. It was 100 years ago... so she still looks good

    • @vincentsartain3061
      @vincentsartain3061 5 років тому +3

      @James Hightower that police car probably predates 1913 by 7 or 8 years, in other words the car was already old by '13.

    Bizarre watching my first silent. Following the story was a bit hard. Funny they could dub music but not voice. But hilarious skit none the less.

    • @jschreck2
      @jschreck2 5 місяців тому

      From my understanding, they didn't 'dub' music either. They had someone playing the film's accompanying music on the piano as it was being shown.
