  • Gardening doesn't always go as planned. This year I've had something happen in the same spot I've grown a garden in for almost 10 years. Literally almost over night my garden was ruined from varmints eating my broccoli, kale, and cauliflower. After months of hard work and tedious tasks, the 2022 in-ground garden season is looking dismal.
For me this meant war.... and I set forth to wage an attack on these pests and reclaim my garden and salvage anything and everything I possibly could.
We utilized a combination of live traps, standard spring traps, and some self built bucket traps. And gave an overview of how we built them and set them based on weather conditions and targeted species.
It was pretty eventful evening and we aren't letting up yet ... we have them on the run and we will keep fighting the good fight.
    Enjoy.

Great job those buckets need more water so rats can't touch bottom, I'm getting 3 rat traps ready after this video my tomatoes and peppers had nibble hole so it's war on the home front. Thanks for sharing. Cheers from Jacksonville Florida 🌞

Thanks for watching and commenting. The big rats were best caught with the big wood traps. The buckets caught field mice very well. Good luck on your newly waged war. Have to protect the plants.

Rats are a constant issue as we have a small neighborhood lake close as well as standing timber. Once they set up shop it is a constant battle. I lose tomatoes every year to them, started setting a pan of corn in the corner of the yard last hour of light as I slowly sip a nice 12 year single malt scotch. Pellet gun can control the problem and is incredibly satisfying at the same time. Turtles get a rat dinner and the wheel of life keeps spinning.

I could totally see myself doing this. This is the first year in 10 years that I’ve had such drastic damage. I’m surrounded by agricultural land - sugar cane to be exact. Once it’s cut and harvested. The varmint of all types find new places to set up shop. It’s definitely a constant battle. I’ll have to try your technique once my spring garden comes in.

I had the same thing happen to me. Didn't know what it was. I happened to see a rat run by while I was out there. Set a trap and got it the same day. Never would have thought a rat would do that. So I am broccoli-less just like you.

I have 2 broccoli plants left untouched. And I’m up to 17-18 rats as of today. Cauliflower all good too so far. I’m hoping I can keep them at bay. Thanks for watching and commenting. Happy Growing.

Bucket trap has caught a few. The mouse traps have by far been the best so far. I put a pretty good dent in the black rats. Where not much else was harmed after the making of this video. Never had trouble during spring with rats. But squirrels have gotten my green tomatoes a time or two. Thanks for watching and commenting
