    Japan's island Ōkunoshima has become famous for a colony of feral bunnies. Some say they descend from eight bunnies set free by a nearby school in 1971. With no predators, the number ballooned to more than 700. Visits to what's now often called “Rabbit Island” have increased, with social media contributing to the boom. The rabbits rely on tourists for food. When visits go up, so does the food-albeit often lacking in nutrition. Off-season, bunnies face slim rations. As wild animals, the rabbits have no official caregivers. How they may fare in the future is unclear.

    I was here a few years ago. Unfortunately because there are so many bunnies eating everything on the island, their food sources are becoming scarce because the vegetation isn't growing back fast enough. A lot of them are very unhealthy and starving, so they do rely very much on the food that people bring from the mainland for them when they come visit the island.

    They need to At least have a company plant grass. Since no predators they have eaten all the grass. That’s the only downside. At one point t they will starve

    So basicly this bunny get food from visitor, and logicaly if there's no visitor, the bunny population decreased to ideal number, because the island maybe only capable to support certain little number of bunny. So the population will normally decreased. Nomnomnom.

    It's sad but many of them probably died during the pandemic. Their numbers rapidly increased due to tourists but the sudden disappearance of tourists massively hurt their population

    Rabbits are like rats. They are filthy, carry disease, and breed like crazy. However, the one is loved, and the other is despised.

    • @gonefishing3628
      @gonefishing3628 6 років тому +42

      You could say the same of every lifeform on earth, including humans.

    • @leehan-yeol7049
      @leehan-yeol7049 6 років тому +13

      You shouldn't equate humans with other animals or vermin for that matter. Because 1. albeit humans are capable of great destruction, they're also the only animal with a moral sense and thus capable of good or evil. 2. You're also human.

      Ryungun Rie rabbit is one of the cleanest pets out there they have no body Odor whatsoever and if they smelled then it must mean you kept the rabbit in small cage where there isn't room for her to roam.

      Comparing rabbits with rats is a clear indication of misunderstanding both species. Perhaps a research would come in handy instead of criticism.

    Wouldn't the ecosystem be bad on the island if the bunnies eat up the vegetation? I'd like to see some small Ferrell cats be put there also with maybe some wild dogs

    • @thesamedison
      @thesamedison 6 років тому +1

      Well we Humans have destroyed billions of hectares of earth's ecosystem so far and we have turned some of the biggest forests and oceans into plastic & garbage dump yard
      What kind of intelligent species would you like to put here to keep a check on Human race??? lol

      Kellen Is Dead There are some areas with plenty vegetation remaining. Most rabbits are likely to remain concentrated in the town area. Plus they're mostly fed by the locals and tourists alike that bring them food. The locals there are more likely to want the rabbits to remain as they bring in tourists.

    • @bonbonjarnecki1658
