How i cry whenever i see this scene. Not just for Joan. For all the hundreds of thousands of people who suffered and died at the hands of the Church, facing that Cross, which ironically was the symbol of His torment as well. May they forgive us, may Joan forgive us and may God forgive us.
Conscience: "Heroine-turned-saint? or Saint-turned-to-heroin?" Joan of Arc: "Why are you trying to hurt me? Do you get pleasure hurting me?" Conscience: "Ah, pleasure. Where does the pain end and your pleasure begin... with that nee-dle in-your hand?"
In the name of faith and religion...she did not need to die, especially like this. The bit that terrifies me is when you see the flames eating away at her dress and feet!
this was one the shocking endings of my chilhood movies, the horror what you see on her eyes while shes burning alive in a immerse heat and agony was probably one the first childhood traumas, and that powerchoir behind the terrific and scary soundtrack didn't help at all.
I had similar experience while watching this film, especially I was not familiar with the story of Joan of Arc. But such trauma helped me to understand the nature of religion and power of faith, until now I am still very keen on reading the relevant biography of Joan of arc and essays about religion. You could watch Lee Sobieski's version as comparison. Luc Beson's version provided more depth and inquiry into the nature of religion, especially in the age that God is dead, all mystery and holiness had been deconstructed by Modern science and humanism. But regretfully, most story setting in this film is fictional, you could simply view it as a movie about dilemma between religion and rationality.
FLUKE (Luc Besson). I am your father. What did Darth Gator say to the dolphin? FLUKE, you are my fodder. What did D'Arc Vader say to the Dolphin/Dauphin Charles VII? FLUKE, I am your father. D'Arc Vader's pet name for his illegitimate son, the Dolphin of France. Was Charles VII the half brother of Joan of Arc? The union of Jacques Darc and Isabeau of Bavaria? Why did the mother of Charles VII disown her son and take the gold in the treasury. D'Arc Vader would have been around 22 years at the conception of Charles VII. Charles VII was born on the 22nd of Feb. and died on the 22nd of July. July 22 is the Feast Day of Mary Magdalene. I have felt Joan and Mary are one in the same. like Elijah and John the Baptist are one in the same. Why did the Oil of Clovis run out before Charles VII (the Dolphin) was crowned King? Or had Yolande of Aragon simply foreseen it would be stolen, so she kept it with her in safe keeping? Was Joan Sybille Darc descended from Queen Sibylla of Jerusalem and her Geek husband Guy? Domremy Far Sew La Pucelle Tea France.
Che attori, che doppiatori, che regista, che film!!!

lol. Joan's trial was politically dictated by the english, the inquisition didn't want to have part in it.
@@WFASPigeonGangBut they executed her
@@levimiguel9586 the english did, not the inquisition
