- Two months in the making and more hours than I would like to admit later this project is finally finished! Going over the events from the Rain World timeline, from the perspective of abandoned gods.
Rain World is a game where you play as a Slugcat in a world left by an extinct civilization, with an immersive complex ecosystem in which you are trying to survive and find your way back, or uncover a path much more existential. The game has incredible lore and a way of telling it, and with this animation I wanted to commemorate its meaning to me and share it with you guys. I hope you enjoy!
This game and its story is very dear to me, I cannot stress enough how much I love this rainy game. Thanks for watching.

I am so happy to hear some people have gotten into Rain World after seeing my animation. I'm adding every single one of you to my tally of friends I have convinced to play Rain World.
There are more animations coming. I've been busy with life responsibilities the past few weeks, so I have barely started, but be on the lookout for another Rain World animation I have planned, perhaps other animations in the future relating to more RW or my OC's/D&D characters, and maybe some random stuff that bursts out of my brain onto my canvas.

Five pebbles and his interections with the other iterators is legit one of the best tragedies in videogames. I can't see any of them and not feel bad on some level.

Not just one of the best tragedies in videogames, but one of the best tragedies of all time period. There is something about the world and story of Rain World that speaks to me on a level few other things can. These absolutely colossal superstructures containing AI supercomputers to solve the ancients' problems only for them to be gone by the time the main story takes place. How 5P was so blinded by his hubris and ambition to re-create the circumstances that led to the demise of Sliver of Straw that he sacrificed everything for it, and ultimately paid for it over the next however many cycles it took for his can to deteriorate to the Silent Superstructure by Saint's campaign. How he condemned Moon to collapse by taking all of the water for himself, and to an extent also how Moon, despite being capable of stopping him earlier on (as indicated by a conversation between No Significant Harassment and Seven Red Suns in Spearmaster's campaign), she ultimately was not assertive enough to stand up for herself despite the dire circumstances. This I would say is also in and of itself a lesson, how being too accommodating at your own expense can ultimately leave you far worse off in the end, which is something I relate to a lot because I struggle with it often. I am struggling a lot for money, and not because I spent it on self indulgent things but because I have used so much of it to help out friends in difficult financial situations that there isn't much left for me.
I'm just rambling at this point but... all I want to get across is that I really fucking love this story, and the world in which it takes place. Rain World truly is a masterpiece.
I have tears streaming down my face. I didnt expect to cry from this but it was so oddly perfect for the rain world time line. I hope you get leagues of attention for this because it deserves it.

I got chills here. The apocalypse of his own making has passed, and now the snow started to fall. It was absolutely the most fitting moment in the whole animation
wow, i love the way you animated this, including all the slugcats passing through pebbles' chamber was a great touch, and the almost apocalyptic feel of pebbles' surroundings with the rot and lizards was incredibly well done. I've never heard this song before but it fits almost perfectly, giving a feel of a spiral into insanity. Love the added touch at the end from your previous animation :) keep up the good work, i love seeing all the great stuff come from talented people like you who create incredible stuff about rain world.
The song is, indeed, about someone spiralling into insanity! The protagonist was wrongly accused of murder. He pleads insanity, but he is sentenced to electric therapy. Because he is not insane, the electric chair drives him mad. (Then he goes sailing because "idk what would you do if you were insane?" and dies)

@@jessiesowter Pretty sure he's accused of murdering his own girlfriend, but someone else killed her (Murderers is the song i think), and he reunited with her after he drowned.

Idk if this is on purpose but the sign behind pebbles as he attempts the procedure looks like suns symbol, given suns was the one who told pebbles that’s super cool!
I love the part were Pebs was bracing for the collapse, I really felt something, it was really tense and I liked how he fell over in convulsions. Poor boi.
Usually it's special to find half a minute of full animation from one person on YT, and then RW community pulls up filled to the brim with amazingly skilled and especially dedicated artists making whole short movie projects within months of hard work. This one specifically has to be in the top 5 for sure, outstanding quality in so many aspects!
when I first saw this animation I was thinking a lot of fandoms use songs for animations of games that don't really fit, but this is close enough. After seeing a bunch of other animations with this song because how much I liked the video and feel, I realised I enjoyed this vidio the most, even animations with OC's made for this song still don't match the lyrics even though they were trying to be a music vidio for the song, but when you look at the lyrics it doesn't really fit. This one fits with the script a lot better when compared with almost all the others, This is amazing and you should be proud of it.

Honestly wasnt expecting this today, but this is an utter masterpiece. Using one of my favourite songs in such a way which fits perfectly with the lore of rainworld itself, utterly cannot express how brilliant this is.

you've captured so INCREDIBLY that spiraling degradation of 5p's mind like. his brain is LITERALLY rotting. and you can FEEL it in this video. ghflksjhfdsjkghsf the visuals match the music SO WELL and i am losing my MIND over that slow, glitching transition between all the slugcats, how we see rivulet leave with the core and just. how certain melodies are given to different slugcats, as if making nods to 5p's different mental states

I was literally just thinking about pebbles. How so little people seem to really comprehend how horrific his story really is. This video portrays that perfectly. All wrapped up in an animation that is just really fucking good.
He's still a bastard, but he's a *tragic* bastard in a tragic world who's mistakes are fucking horrifying to think about when you consider the superstructure is his *body* and the rot is eating it from the inside out, taking away his agency and his memories, when the only thing he can do is consume ever more water to try and flush the rot out of his systems to prevent his systems from completely shutting down

The fact that you not only made a gorgeous amv using a song that I love so deeply, but also that you drew the outside of Pebbles so detailed and yet a large amount of the amv was very simple in its shapes and colors is staggering. Im sending this to my rainworld friends. Fucking a, really.

Whis is gorgeous. Animation is on level, all the composition, color and art style in general are so good, but story... you executed it masterly. This is one of the best animation/animatics that I've seen about the Rain World, and I never thought that 5 Pebbel's lore could go so well with this song. Beautiful work< more people need to see this

There was once a civilization, however, they really didn't wanna be here. The whole world, from bugs to inteligent creatures is stuck in a cycle of birth and death, and rebirth. So that civilization, called ancients, deside to just, die effectively. They find the void sea, which is just a bunch of acid that will melt anyone and anything. So they promptly jump into the void, unfortunately, if your ego is too much, you wouldn't be able to ascend even with the void fluid.
You'd become an echo, a ghost like entity which can't die, can't move, it can only speak and remember.
And so the ancients need to die in some way, but how?
So they create some really, really big calculators, big enough to house entire cities on top of them. Those computers are called iterators, because they think, calculate, and _iterate_. The most important part of an iterator is the puppet, that being the robot-lookin body (Pink guy being pebbles, Blue guy being Moon in this video)
The ancients then promptly stop existing, somehow.
The iterator are now alone, only able to talk to eachother and try to off themselves.
Unfortunately, the ancients didn't want their Rgb gaming pcs to die, so they put in a bunch of taboos, such as “You can't kill yourself” or “You can't edit your genome”
But an iterator, called Sliver of Straw SOMEHOW DIED ANWAYS, sending a triple affitmative (Solution exists, it's portable, and it's generally applicable) and dissapearing from the lore.
Iterators are now split into those who believe that Sliver's solution is good, and that it's death itself. And those, who think it's dangerous and illegal.
Five Pebbles, also just called Pebbles, or FP, is a younger iterator, built later, and he's angsty as hell. He has a mentor, a fellow iterator called Seven Red Suns (SRS or just Suns), who he's very close to. He also has a "sister", an older iterator called Looks to the Moon (LTTM, Big sis moon, BSM or Moon), who's can(Structure) is unusually close to his.
We don't know when or why, but SRS somehow aquires some very illegal information, that being a way to overcome the self destruction taboo, and offing yourself. And like a responsible friend, they send to to pebbles by a messager (Spearmaster, also dubbed 7, cause they're supposedly the seventh messanger).
This procces requires a lot of water. Pebbles shares water with Moon, and like a responsible, not at all emo guy...
Yeah no he takes all the water.
Moon is now being melted from the iniside, because, you know, dehydration.
Moon uses a forced broadcast, pleading for Pebbles to stop, because she's being killed. Pebbles is interrupted in his very sensitive, dangerous procces of creating a creature that'd eat away the Self destruction taboo, and creating the rot (Blue tentacle thingies that are basically cancer)
Spearmaster is sent to pebbles agian, to no avail, and manages to get moon's final message to the group.
Moon's can collapses, and she's now in a coma.
A few more slugcats happen, most of them having no significance.
Artificer lost her kids, killed a bunch of scavengers, and had a funny drone.
Hunter has some more significance, being sent by No significant harrasment (NSH) to revive Moon with a special green slag reset neuron, and also having some really bad cancer.
Gourmand has no lore significance. It's just a really chonky cat.
Survivor, agian, no lore. Just a slugcat.
Monk, agian, unsurprisingly, no lore. Just survivor's younger sibbling.
Rivulet, also called Ruffles, had ALOT OF LORE. They have a pearl in their stomach detailing how to take out an iterator's Mass rarefaction cell (Basically the heart). Agian, we don't know why, or how, but they have it.
Pebbles himself asks Rivulet to take out his last cell, which would kill him.
Rivulet does that, some shenanigans later, gets the cell to moon, travels trough moon's ruined structure, and inputs it into moon's cell chamber.
Moon is now mostly working, and can actually do things.
Then we have a time skip.
The saint is a strange fluffy green slugcat, a pacifist unable to throw spears, and a vegan who goes into a vegan seizure if they eat meat.
They however, have a long tounge :)
And also, are a god that's able to ascend anyone and anything.
This fluffy fella gathers all the karma they need, and ascend both Pebbles and Moon, and finnaly, and the suffering both have been trough.
There's definitely some things i left out (Ancients being jerks, UI being annoying, ect) but i am way too lazy to include it.

I especially like 1:42 and onward, I always imagine and occasionally draw what I think he would have been going through as the can collapsed. It's pretty sad, and although most people have probably gotten over the collapse by now, I'm still shaken by saint and it's a little horrifying to see how much Pebbles has gone through. He never gets a happy ending, until what was probably hundreds of thousands, if not millions of years later. (Idk how long cycles actually last so I'm not using that time measurement. I assume one cycle is around a month, maybe a week, but nobody can say for sure.)
Oh yeah, I forgot who they were, but some people put together theories in the comments of another 5p video that his can likely feel peice by peice, and the entire underside of the can gave way at some point, causing the can to kind of split and the inside of the can to just go "wheee here I come soon-to-be-unshaded citadel", and when the other top half of the can fell, the legs impaled it. (Sorry people who made this theory, I can't remember who you are therefore cannot give you credit :(. If you happen to find this comment you can go "hey it's me" and I'll credit you)

I am and forever will be a Pebbles sympathizer, he did a bad and selfish thing, but he realised the faults of this actions when it was too late and suffered great consequences because of it, which is truly tragic.

this is crazy how good this animation is. So many good moments it's hard to call them all out. The huge mood shift at 2:18 is just chilling. The green lizor getting slurped up by what's left of the rot. That perfect segue at the end into "introduction of the snow" ahh I can't get enough of it
That mood shift probably fits that moment in the timeline so well too, imagine being Pebbles' puppet, having been in your enclosed chamber for ages, and now you're just... outside, exposed, as a consequence of your own actions
this really paints how tragic this story is
This is probably one of the best animations I have seen for this song and the animation fits the lyrics and the story so well
