Great video Phil and Jeremy! I am new to salt water fishing and using sand fleas. Do all the gulf shores have sand fleas or only certain areas? I fish Anna Maria Island and Long Boat Key area for the most part. Do you guys like one particular brand for a sand flea rake or will anyone do?
I live by Juno Beach and this going to be a new way for me to get sand fleas AND have fun... I'm 52 and getting a basket full of fat fleas is as exciting at times as hauling in a nice fish..talk about being a kid again...happy happy happy 👍✝️💜🎣🛶🏹🇺🇲
Nice to see video show the people how u can get bait ..and is good to see this video cause i just got my Rake to get some sand fleas thank you for this video ..i let u know when i goin to get some fleas how was my experience
TY 4 info ! hadda rake loaned it out & they left it 4 lunch & itb was stolen sadly ! Miss it alot ! now use half of minnow trap by hand not as effective but gotta modify & adapt sometimes ;)
Go through the back gate of the base and pass Sherman's Cove Marina. Not long after you'll see Old West Access Rd. Turn right on that road and you'll have all that shoreline to rake.
Never heard of a Sand flea, wonder if Australia has them or NZ as that's where I am headed for as much fishing as I can fit in in between being a tourist who has no clue where he is going, but my wife does, as long as it has fishing mentioned in it somewhere I don't care! Yep Australia has sand fleas! Will get me a steal net and get some free bait, plus learn how to catch sand worm things ! Plenty of stuff to do prior to the tides changing!
What use could anyone possibly have for that many sand fleas.. for bait anyway.. i hear they do eat them in places.. i find when they seem to be readily available that it is very easy to keep grabbing up more than you could ever use.. hopefully there is a follow up vid on how to freeze or preserve them because without doing it, it only takes a couple days and you have a big stinking mess..
@@SaltSquatch thanks for the reply and the link.. very well done and looks like it will work great.. tendency with me is to always want to just keep scooping em up at the times they are abundant.. with 10 minutes of daily attention, i can keep them alive for usually a week. They sure are a great bait.. some have told me the frozen ones actually work better than the live ones.. i have better luck with them live.. that’s what’s great about fishing.. people always trying new stuff.. learning new things, and enjoying more to the hobby than just catching a fish.. btw.. been a very good year!
How long will they stay alive in the bucket? What is the best way to keep them alive? Would a bait shop be interested in buying them if you brought in like five gallons? I just got to thinking if I took my family for a overnight trip to the beach. Selling the fleas could pay for our hotel. 🤔😂 It would keep my son busy. Lol 👍
I just went hunting for these lil creatures for the first time over the weekend, and I thought the same thing about the ones with eggs. I took the time to check all of them for eggs and didn't see any, but the next day when I went fishing I saw that pretty much every sand flea was packed full of eggs. Once I saw that I didn't feel so bad about it because it made me realize that there is no shortage of eggs to keep these lil guys thriving.

This is the best How to catch sand flea video I’ve ever seen both in terms of the way you could see the colonies and the catching content!
Fish Gum thanks!! I was SHOCKED how many fleas you can find at night!!
I just learned more about catching and storing sand fleas than I ever have. Now all I need to do is get a good rake. Thank you PH
Tony
You’re welcome!
It’s always best time to catch anything at night to be real wit you. Even Crabs 🦀
I have watch about 20 videos on this topic, this is the best one so far!
I appreciate it!
It's not day or night that makes it hard it's what the tide is doing. Low tide is not productive but two hours before high tide is usually awesome
This was so satisfying to watch! Good job Phil and Jeremy!
Russell Roshchin 😂 thanks!
That's a great video Phil and Jeremy. I've never tried to catch sand fleas at night but I'm definitely going to give it a try now.
Maddog Fishing SO much easier to find them!!!

He’s right. I catch whiting on the medium ones, and get blues, pompano, and even a shark on the large ones.
Awesome video Phil!! Tight lines🌴🤙🏼🎣
Thanks Tony!

AWESOME, I HAVE NEVER TRIED DURING THE NIGHT!
Great instruction! Awesome video
Thank you for good information
경진 이 you’re welcome!!
Great video. Do you surf fish are night also? Not talking about sharks but whiting ,flounder, croaker etc.
Dora Jones yeah, but usually not as many opportunities to target those species at night. Better chance at bluefish and redfish at night
@@SaltSquatch thanks

Thank you for sharing
Are these hard shell or soft shell? I have heard soft shell works the best which is what I have caught my stripers on this last week.
Hard shell. Don’t think we have soft shell around here.
Holy wow! Ima try this here in Miami
Hope it works out for you! Good luck!!
He do you keep them over night? Do you freeze them and use them later? (Great video)
This video shows how I keep sand fleas alive for day’s at a time - ua-cam.com/video/KTQWQTWCmwc/v-deo.html
Sand fleas for days excellent video
Thanks Jack! I was SHOCKED how many you can find at night!
What are you using for light?
Thanks. I will be doing the same this weekend
Hope you get a bunch!
Never tried it at night going to have to do that thanks .
I’ve had nothing but success with it!
Night time, never thought about that. Thanks for the tip.
It’s amazing how much easier it is to find them at NIGHT!!
My dad and I would rake for sand fleas on NAS base in the evening as well. Really good place to go to if you have access.
Thanks for the tip!
Go through the back gate of the base and pass Sherman's Cove Marina. Not long after you'll see Old West Access Rd. Turn right on that road and you'll have all that shoreline to rake.
Drew Enriquez I will have to give that a try!
How do you hook them to fish?
No wonder I cant find any fleas. Yall caught them all!
I usually tie old fish and a minced gut bag behind me as I walk. It attracts them. Much easier to see where they are then.
Excellent video 👍
Thanks!!
That was an awesome video!
William Elliott glad you enjoyed it!
What time of year is best for getting sand fleas?
The warmer months. They disappear in winter
in California the soft-shell and ones with eggs work best
Yeah, we use orange beads on our rigs to imitate sand flea eggs
I hear the mid springtime is the best time to catch them. Are you catching them year round as well?
I can usually find them most of the year until the cold spike
Never heard of a Sand flea, wonder if Australia has them or NZ as that's where I am headed for as much fishing as I can fit in in between being a tourist who has no clue where he is going, but my wife does, as long as it has fishing mentioned in it somewhere I don't care!

what is the purpose of catching these sea insects ? what are they used for and how do you use them ?
Bait for fishing
Are you going to blanche them for future use? Or can they be salted down and stored that way?
Next week’s video is actually a how to on blanching sand fleas! We blanch and freeze them
@@SaltSquatch Thanks so much!!
We definitely have the little clams here on the Texas coast. Does anyone know if we have sand fleas.
kitchensalive I’ve heard Galveston does
Excellent video!! Do tides play a part in catching these things? If so which do you find is the best?
Thanks Gordon
I haven’t really paid attention to tides when going...they do however disappear with cold weather
How do you store them for fishing the next day?
Jeff Reddy I explain that in this video ua-cam.com/video/KTQWQTWCmwc/v-deo.html
Very helpful!!! Thanks!
MIAMI FISHING FAN you’re welcome!
we should throw the egg laden ones back, no?
The eggs are some of the best attractant, but I do throw a lot of them back

Im in Florida now. So what months good to catch Sand fleads?
You can still find some now, but they are more in numbers during the warm months
I went to Anna Marie island in fl and found like 4 big mama
The big mommas are difficult to find!

Mace S they will stay alive a couple days if your provide new water sand each day.
Unfortunately you would need a bait license to sell bait.
Sand flea aka mole crab
Katoon Phithavong yep! They are a great bait for surf fishing.
U have the handle on there the wrong way. Turn it around it’s easier on your back.
I will try that
Phil Hollandsworth 👍🏻👍🏻
What is it worth I’m the market.
Im guessing its not illegal to keep a pregnant sand flea but you have 200 in that bucket might want to let the ones with egg sacs go
That was very selfish keeping the one with eggs. So next time there won’t be any
