I had the problem with my video glitching uot at the end in davinci resolve, good to hear that it was not a problem on my end.
Honestly, what this video highlights more to me is the cluster F that was HEVC or h.265 and its licencing, we could of had something not far off like this ages ago closer to standard and do away with h.264.
AV1 is amazing for all 3 GPU vendors.
Good Morning Adam, Thanks for the update on AV1.
Thanks for watching!
its kinda crazy that very expensive professional software like Premiere still doesnt support AV1. heck, even Discord still doesnt support it, even tho they use it for streaming. what are devs of those apps doing
Being activists
Great video! This is the only comparison between NVENC AV1 and NVENC H264 at higher bitrates I’ve been able to find.
I just use Shadowplay or whatever it’s called for local recording so use higher bitrates for better quality.
Premiere will have taken so long to add AV1 support that I can cancel my sub (without their insane penalty) and switch to resolve. There's even the chance I get to stream AV1 to Twitch allowing for an entirely AV1 workflow before Premiere supports it. Wild.
Thank you Adam, always appreciate your efforts.
Thanks so much for the tip!
I've been doing some testing with AV1 with my 4080. I tend to use QC levels with AV1, but I'm not sure how this translates to mbps - which I assume is content bit rate. For me, QC level of 30 in AV1 is about the same as QC level of 15 in H.264. HEVC/H.256 look very similar to AV1 and you really have to pixel peep to tell the difference. With newer drivers, over time, AV1 _should_ look better than even HEVC. HEVC still has the advantage of wider support.
Great video like always. Last year I was a bit sad that Overwolf's Outplayed didn't allow recording in AV1 and now this week randomly checking it out. It now allows AV1 quicksync for highlights in games which I'm so glad about. I can now record highlights in overwatch by using the A380 instead of using my 3060ti with only the old AVC. Great to see more apps now using AV1. Thanks
*30-series cards don't get any of the new options.
No HEVC, but they also don't get higher bitrates. It's still limited to 150Mbps on 30 series.
Thx. Good news!
Hello
It's been great, I started using Shadowplay over OBS, But i end up Remuxing the files with OBS afterwards anyway to get 'em to work, Great video, thumba up as Always.
Thank you for years of fun and educational content!
Thank YOU!
Thank you for the helpful video. I wasn’t going to get a 40 series card and just use my 3080 until I do a whole new PC build with like 50 or 60 series (assuming they keep going with that model), but I am running out of space. May need to get a card that can do AV1 sooner than I thought.
Would love to try this out, unfortunetly the overlay is buged for me, I hope they fix it soon.
av1 seems still have compression artifacts on the edge of crosshair at 30 mbps, h264 30 mbps crosshair looks a bit cleaner
So, for 4K 120 FPS recording with AV1, do you recommend keeping it at 50 mbps, 100, or higher in Shadowplay? Thanks for the video. I Always look out for your thoughts on this tech. You never steer us wrong.
30 or less
I just can't get Shadowplay to record at a smooth 60fps for any codec with the Nvidia Beta app on my RTX 4080S. I really don't know how to properly fix this.
Try g sync off
I got a question for you. At 75mps and + Which one is better? HEVC or Av1?
6:40 Adobe amazes me with their lack of support for common formats such as MKV... and now AV1
Now it's time to get an AV1 capable gpu 😅
Remember AV1 is a free* product.
@@N0N0111 haha. it will certainly cost you to use it, but eventually it will become default if it stays modern.
i'm sure it would be even more costly if it was patented and not open to use. it probably would not even get far if nobody was able to use it.
@@ayoubthegreat I am waiting for H.266 to rear their heads out, I am expecting them to achieve near close quality for low bitrate.
@@N0N0111 do you think that will compatible with older gpus, unlike AV1?
This could be big for Vision Pro streaming games from steam
7:01 Typically people do that because the compressed files are harder to play in real time while editing even though they're smaller files. Would you be able to test how AV1 playback compares to H.264 in Resolve using something a little less powerful? Us 4080/90 users can forget what bad playback feels like sometimes lol
If you have a GPU that can encode AV1, it will decode it on hardware too and you won’t notice a problem
how does this compare to something like obs av1 with cqp 18? Is it worth switching to shadowplay av1 over obs?
03:26 I'll interprete that as a double blocky mess 😂 As always, rocking it out with your great content ♥ Have any thoughts on UA-cam's new BETA look ? I think your prayers were partially listened
PLEASE NVIDIA, ADD STREAM DECK CONTROL, AND MULTI CHANNEL RECORDING TO SEPARATE, EDIT, AND MIX AUDIO IN POST FOR UA-cam.
i hate the fact i can't switch video codec with my 3060 Ti, to record at H.265 HEVC at least, and can't select default audio device on in/out audio, when i just switch audio devices with my Stream Deck, and i want the Nvidia App pick that device automatically. also mid 2024 and we can't control Nvidia broadcast with Stream Deck. we have too much to do NVIDIA.
pd. i'm using Studio Driver from 3 June 2024. i installed manually NVIDIA App and gived me the advice only at startup.
My only problem with AV1, I can’t edit it in premiere pro
Adam, in the AV1 update in Shadowplay, can you capture in HDR? or is that not supported with AVI and can only be used with HEVC?
Give. Me. Your. Shirt!
i have the 4090, drivers up to date same exact drive number, jun 3rd release but i dont find the option the change the codec. any idea why? thanks in advance
Did you update to Nvidia App instead of GeForce Experience?
anyone else had problems with av1 recording in davinci resolve it plays really slow , i have the 4090 any help folks
does this contain any advantages over using OBS with NVENC AV1? even if it's something like using less VRAM or 2% less CPU and what not.
Surprised Nvidia got built-in AV1 recording _after_ AMD, but got it before in obs, iirc.
OBS has had AV1 recording for almost 2 years now lol
@@EposVox god, time flies
555.99 driver version is suck, mine got massive fps drop after the update. i downgrade it back to 555.85 and everything okay
Does anyone have issues where gameplay/voice is out of sync on Nvidia recordings?
I have the beta but i dont have the option to stream in av1
For me still Nvidia App with AV1 codec no working at all. I did update everything to latest version (Nvidia App + Driver) and I can see that has be recorded but is just one big lag. Old coded working as normal.
Hi, did they fix gamma shift in the latest versions?
*I've said it B4 and I'll say it again your videos are criminally under-rated, I've heard u give information for free that other ppl would pay money hear, keep doing your thing man, ik not everyone who gets a GPU does video work but they always think about it!*
Thank you
but did they fix shadow play to record in a constant frame rate? cuz when i was using it last year any recording longer than 30 mins would have audio desync issues. curious if they finally fixed that
It's still VFR - that will depend entirely on your performance, tho most people don't have desync issues these days.
rx 5700 owner here , anyone knows why i cant record with 120 fps on ReLive ?
For me on an RTX-4070 Ti, 120fps is a lie. Record a 120fps video, and watch it frame-by-frame in a video app. Every other frame is duplicated, meaning it's only 60fps masquerading at 120fps.
Thanks for the video, I downloaded the app just for this feature..
And it's complete garbage, the app running in the background made Apex legends competely unplayable..
Tried removing the app. Didn't work. It fucked up my system completely. DON'T INSTALL THE NV APP?
Does AV1 not support HDR in Shadowplay?
Weh, your shirt makes me sad. RIP Mixer.
I use to renderwith 8000kbps with h265 but with av1 I can get same quality with 4000
neither app can handle multi gpu setups. tiny nvidia updater can though.
Hello boys
I have Rtx 3070ti can i Use it?
Me still waiting for obs vst3 support.
cries with 30 series
You get upgrades too!
will twitch ever support av1?
Twitch is testing AV1 in beta right now, they’ve announced it, but no release date has been given.
@@Sufy-ei9zj Twitch has been live testing for 4 years... I am baffled it is taking them so long to darn launch it.
@@N0N0111
4 years?! That’s news to me. I thought they started beta testing it like a year ago.
Twitch has not started testing AV1 at all yet. There was the *single* demo AV1 VOD, but that was not live. HEVC testing is currently starting for exclusive partners (me included) and I'll have a video on it Thursday.
This won’t work on GTX will it
Last UA-cam upload video you said, av1 has worse quality compared to h264/nvenc. Now you recommend to upload the av1 content to UA-cam. Does it mean Nvidia fixed the issue of qualify loss on UA-cam or will fix it with the upcoming driver?
I explain it very clearly in the video…
Why no 3000 series?
3000 series cannot encode AV1
when HEVC
Question, is the update that fixes the broken end of an AV1 video already out?
No
@@EposVox Do you now when it will come out?
No
I just tried to record at 250Mbps but it only goes to 150, does that update also needs to come out?
I tried the same, to record @250Mbps with AV1 and H264/HEVC, and it only goes to 80Mbps, weird bug. What is odd, is that 80Mbps is the previous value I had before updating to latest Nvidia App version.
I even used DDU to clean install drivers and Nvidia App, but that didn't helped either. Bummer
Does it still encode SDR Videos with BT.601 or is that finally fixed?
Sadly still 601
well i guess thats nvidia for you. would you mind covering this in a future video? every time when i research how to achieve color accuracy when editing shadowplay recordings i get more confused. @@EposVox
H264/HEVC is using BT.601, AV1 BT.709. I checked mine clips with Mediainfo.
Why not HEVC instead of x264 if you can't use AV1?
Probably the licensing fees. Easier to justify it on only the very limited HDR/8K use cases
@@EposVox Oh, you mean from the Nvidia thing? I meant in general as I use HEVC in OBS for saving clips or recording.
So basically they are catching up to AMDs app...finally... 😆
I quit using nVidia when they required an account to use Replay, and then they never paid me my $30 for the GTX 970 settlement. I sent all my paperwork, including photos of everything, MONTHS early and they said that was fine. Then 1 DAY before the deadline they demanded the ORIGINAL UPC off the box, which they already knew I no longer had. Yeah, never giving them another dime. 😡 BUT...I guess most people will happily continue allowing themselves to be exploited by a multi-trillion corp, just to be part ot the club.
That 970 lawsuit was mostly bullshit anyway BUT those payouts and etc were 100% handled by the legal counsel that sued them and won, Nvidia wasn’t responsible for that
I got my check for it. Everything was sent to the lawyer and paid by the lawyer.
I also didn’t need the UPC either, as I most definitely did not have the box.
i would kill to have nvidia make shadowplay an actual app instead of a dog ass overlay. relive was so much nicer to use :(
??? Shadowplay is as much its own “actual app” as recording in ReLive is…
@@EposVox I find the ALT-Z overlay anoying as hell to navigate compared to ReLive. is there some other way of using shadowplay that isnt the overlay that im not aware of?
Have they added GeForce Shadow play yet ???
I don’t understand the question
@EposVox my bad I meant nvidia gamestream shield. Is it in the software yet or nah ?
"HEVC is ONLY used for 8K & HDR"
What are you talking about?
1. That's incorrect.
2. It's a LOT more complex than 'if 8K or HDR then'.
3. There are many legit reasons to use HEVC on lower resolutions. Macro block slicing, framerates, intra directional prediction vectors, etc, etc. Or even simply bandwidth restrictions (which the former mentioned items make part of).
A company I used to work for daily had multiple 6K 90FPS 20GB files. You "can't" do that with AVC (you can with x264 but at a serious performance hit)
??? Those are the ONLY scenarios in which *Shadowplay* will record HEVC. Context matters, and in this case literally the entire video was obvious context.
@@EposVox Sorry, that context was not obvious to me. I know he was talking about shadowplay, but interpreted the statement as standing on it's own.
My apologies.
So is this better than OBS?
In terms of having less impact on game performance, yes. In terms of overall capabilities and quality, no.
invest in capture coin
CAPTURE COIIIIIN
CARDS ARE SO 1995
Bro, it's been like 5 years hyping this up and I can't still stream using AV1 on Twitch. Not blaming you, but I mean...
Wait til Thursday
@EposVox 👀👀👀👀👀 would this be a hint, Sir?
I mean twitch isn’t the only platform out there, just because they’ve been slow to roll out av1 why are you mad at anyone but twitch?
Ugh no use for 30 series video useless for me
Incorrect. There’s improvements for 30 series as I very clearly stated and then showed.
EposVox, does UA-cam allow the uploading of AV1 recorded content without any restrictions? Or do they transcode it to something else after uploading an AV1 video?
Every video uploaded to UA-cam is transcoded to about 16 different versions. UA-cam never delivers the file you upload to a viewer directly.
So they allow uploading of AV1 “without restriction”, you can upload however you want - but no file is ever directly distributed to a viewer in any codec
@@EposVox
So I’m confused then, If AV1 is supposed to be better quality at a lower bitrate, why choose AV1 if it gets botched by UA-cam anyways since they’ll transcode it into something else?
Is it because AV1 creates lower file sizes on our end and replicates higher quality videos on a lower bitrate for us? If so, does UA-cam transcoding mess up the quality of an AV1 upload?
Another question is whether 12th generation Intel CPU’s and higher QuickSync H.264 encoders are still as good as 40#0 GPU series encoder for NVENC for Twitch streaming? I remember you did a video on this 2 years ago, but just wanted to know your thoughts on it currently.
Also really appreciate the content!
