i have a 2008 Suzuki grand Vitara 4wd 2.0 petrol model, its been the best car ive ever owned and i love it, its now done 425,000k and still going strong 💪 i looked at the model before this one but was very disappointed so didn't bother replacing my current one, this model looks way better, but what's the motor, the 12v hybrid system sounds like a joke, i mean why even bother, i hope the motor is not some 1.0 to 1.5 turbo rubbish like a lot of the cars seem to have now days.
Very nice looking and features, love that Sun roof, but I wouldn't even consider test driving it with that 1.5 NA motor. It would really have been Grand if it came with the 1.4T motor. I can only imagine how bad it is at altitude. I guess not many will sell in GP, maybe Cpt and DBN only. Hopefully we'll get a Turbo version later.
Took the GLX for a test drive yesterday and was disappointed by the power on uphills and acceleration at speed. It is only a 1.5l engine, but it's just too much car for that size engine
@Shawn Jooste no doubt, however my 2007 Ford Fiesta has more oomph going uphill and unfortunately that little extra power is needed on hills and when overtaking at speed
I think for the price point, this is a nice family car. People moaning about the lack of power. I guess if you coming from a car with power to something like this it might seem like an issue but if you coming from a car with lower power, wouldn't mind it.
Its a big improvement of the previous gen known as the Vitara Brezza but the price jump is not a value proposition to South Africans. At this price point the Subaru XV is leaps and bounds a more substantial vehicle.
Geez even the standard Vitara's turbo engine isn't enough. Suzuki refuse to provide adequate power to their vehicles, therefore I continue to choose competing SUVs every time. My car is the same length as the grand vitara, about 20K more than the top shelf vitara here in OZ so if it was sold in grand form I would presume about 10K more, and is actually legit quick (cupra, 300HP/400nm). But you can spend less and get cars with much more powerful engines than what Suzuki offers.
E-Boost 50 Nm if Lithium battery is 40 % or more full. Helps if performance is forced between 1.900 rpm and 3.900 rpm. Excellent uphill and Acceleration for motorway in every gear. Great Recuperation downhill!
Will stick to my original Vitara looking dated but not a oversize body with Jimny engine...or I'll get the Jimney...no ways this can be a 'Grand Vitara'
Its not a genuine Grand Vitara. They have just used the nameplate instead of Vitara Brezza which this is the true successor. The New Toyota Urban Cruiser is a rebadged one of these.

In India, we get a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Slightly underpowered but this car will last forever without emptying your pocket on service. It doesn't have any complicated engine setup or parts. I think Suzuki is planning for reliability and mileage as their prime moto for this suv

Here in México at least it has a 6 speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. At sea level where i live in combo with that transmission it doesnt seem to be that weak. I mean its not a fast car, but at least it doesnt feel like it is being pulled by a chihuaha.
I think you are confused between names... this IS made in Toyota plant with Suzuki parts (and Toyota engine+battery setup for strong hybrid) but it's Toyota twin is called Hyryder.

It’s also a naturally aspirated engine so no turbo. Won’t be as peppy as other modern engines but will out last them.

That was my concern. My wife is looking at the Suzuki/Toyota versions but the 1.8l Corolla Cross might be the better option for driveability.
