Mark, tears are literally falling down my face. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU!!! One day my moonroof was working properly and less than 24 hours later, it wasn’t. With so much disappointment going on in my life at the moment, natural sunlight helps to brighten my day so a non-operable moonroof was not going to work well for me at all. I started to panic with the dread of going to a BMW dealership and run the risk of being taken advantage of because I’m a single woman who knows very little about cars. For some odd reason, I decided to do an internet search to try to find a fix. Your video popped up and I watched it. Your instructions were SUPER easy to follow and showing the inside of the vehicle WHILE talking through the steps was GENIUS!!! I cannot thank you enough for being a blessing to me. I have subscribed to your channel and wish I could buy you a coffee or tea!! Not all heroes wear capes…some make UA-cam videos. Once again, THANK YOU!!

Thank You for this. My Panoramic Sunroof Sunshade (2014 550i GT FO7) wouldn’t close all the way, it remained about 1/2” from a fully closed position. This outlined procedure solved the problem, and now my Sunshade closes completely, just as it should. You saved me $80, which is what a local BMW coding guy would have charged me……
Confirmed now in 2023 I thought my moon roof was stuck as shown in other videos & on the exact day I choose to fix it I found this video and didn’t know I can press the button down! I would’ve messed my whole roof up! THANKS ALOt
My 2016 BMW x5 sunroof would try to open, but returned to the closed position. You saved me $200 in diagnostics fees at the dealership. I first tried your reset, but it didn't work the first time. I ended up having to switch off the car and locking it from the outside. Then I went back and unlocked it and tried the reset again, and it worked as a charm. Thank-you very much.

Mine only tilts up too , but I tried the process and it will stop almost the end of closing the shade and won’t let me go through the whole reset

I hadn't used my sunroof in a couple of years and while selling the car, I noticed it was not working at all. Thought it had a bad motor or switch or something else expensive until I saw this video. I had to hold the button for almost 2 mins but it worked and now works perfect again.

I also have a BMW X5 e70 an 2008 model . Mine will only tilt & wont open fully , it will make the sound and move a tiny inch and then stops . I’ve tried e reset and can’t get i to work

197,000 views. Gives you an idea of how problematic BMW moonroofs are, but certain nice that a lot just need the button fix. Mine needed the glass replaced after it shattered. Fortunately, shade was closed, only a 10 square inch hole and I was able to remove the fragments, tape both sides of the glass, get a boneyard replacement for $125 and replace all in less than an hour!
