Mark, tears are literally falling down my face. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU!!! One day my moonroof was working properly and less than 24 hours later, it wasn’t. With so much disappointment going on in my life at the moment, natural sunlight helps to brighten my day so a non-operable moonroof was not going to work well for me at all. I started to panic with the dread of going to a BMW dealership and run the risk of being taken advantage of because I’m a single woman who knows very little about cars. For some odd reason, I decided to do an internet search to try to find a fix. Your video popped up and I watched it. Your instructions were SUPER easy to follow and showing the inside of the vehicle WHILE talking through the steps was GENIUS!!! I cannot thank you enough for being a blessing to me. My 2016 BMW x5 sunroof would try to open, but returned to the closed position. You saved me $200 in diagnostics fees at the dealership. I first tried your reset, but it didn't work the first time. I ended up having to switch off the car and locking it from the outside. Then I went back and unlocked it and tried the reset again, and it worked as a charm. Thank-you very much.

My local BMW place wants to charge me $390 just to look at it. I tried this and it worked! I still can’t get the inside cover to move at all, but at least the sunroof opens again! Thank you!!

The only difference with my approach is plugging the key in didn’t fix it - I had to start my car and run through the sequence of steps you suggested. Worked!! I wonder what Doncaster BMW would have charged me for this simple fix. So so relieved and happy!!
I hadn't used my sunroof in a couple of years and while selling the car, I noticed it was not working at all. Thought it had a bad motor or switch or something else expensive until I saw this video. I had to hold the button for almost 2 mins but it worked and now works perfect again.

Confirmed now in 2023 I thought my moon roof was stuck as shown in other videos & on the exact day I choose to fix it I found this video and didn’t know I can press the button down! I would’ve messed my whole roof up! THANKS ALOt
Just bought a 2007 x5 and the roof would only tilt up. Saw your video, did what you said. It instantly started going through the procedure's and now it works perfectly. Thanks. You saved me and a bunch of people time and money
Mine only tilts up too , but I tried the process and it will stop almost the end of closing the shade and won’t let me go through the whole reset

@@Marksreviewsandtutorials I followed this and my sunroof work better but now I have noticed that I cant use feather touch I have to press and hold the button up to open tilt. Also, I have to press back and hold it if I want the sunroof to work. Earlier it was just the touch of a button. I got 2008 Bmw X5 RHD.

I also have a BMW X5 e70 an 2008 model . Mine will only tilt & wont open fully , it will make the sound and move a tiny inch and then stops . I’ve tried e reset and can’t get i to work

Just wanted to say I saved 500 bucks on a used 535xi because of a sunroof error during the test drive, where I was ok with dropping the price to solve myself. Well, I just reinitialized and it's perfect! I had to have the car running though, the button was not responding until then. Easy fix!
