How to Install an LED Strip Light / Workshop & Garage Lighting Upgrade
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- I replaced some light bulbs in my garage workshop with LED Strip Lights fixtures from Lithonia to improve the brightness and visibility. The installation of the LED lights was a straightforward process. I take you through step by step on how I was able to improve the lighting situation in my workshop, with some humor. These lights are super bright and are great for any workshop or garage. You might also get to see my dog, who knows!

I don't usually comment on videos... it's probably been 8-10 years but this video looks great and a lot better than the instructions.... thanks!
Haha I feel so honored, thank you! Figured it was worth recording to help out others, but had to add a fun spin to the boring instructions.
4 years later it's still helping! I agree, this is much better than the instructions. Thanks a lot. Love the humor too.
Great presentation! Humor well used to emphasize safety in sideways-like fashion. Much appreciated!
Tim, thanks for the easy to comprehend instructions. Also, good to see that some people still have a sense of humor!
I'm glad you found it helpful (and enjoyed my humor) - thanks!
Loved the humor. Laughter always makes anything easier.
You explain things very well. Way better than most of the garbage on UA-cam
I love the humor in this. Very informational, thank you!
Thank you!
I could do without the humour, but definitely giving this a thumbs up as it showed me everything I needed to know.
I love this! Where is more?
Thank you! The instructions were not clear at all. This video helped so much!!
Of course, glad I could help! Agreed on the instructions - I think they gave me about 20% of the information needed, learned the rest as I went.
Fantastic! Thank you so much. Love your sense of humor.
Super funny, super helpful, awesome walk thru! Thank you Tim!!
Great Video I Love The Humor
I love the video and your sense of humor. Entertaining while learning. Keep up the content bud!
Haha, thank you. Glad you enjoyed it!
Easy and thorough! I like!
Informative, whilst short, and hilarious 😂, great video
Babish would be proud.
😂😂
I thoroughly enjoyed your humor and detailed explanations. subscribed
Hola, tu video me pareció excelente, muy claro y explícito, tanto que, sin dominar el inglés, me diste los elementos para realizar una instalación perfecta, felicitaciones y saludos de México.
Fantastic video, and the humour was a great touch
funny and helpful thanks
Very informative video.
The humour kept me engaged.
Especially man's best friend!🐕
Thank you!
Love the unexpected humor😂
So glad I discovered the Binging with Babish of building today. New sub. Keep up the great work!
🤣
You're a life saver brother! Thanks a lot.
Good no nonsense video.
Bout time someone puts some realism into there videos!!! 😂😂😂 thanks for dumbing it up for us bud ❤
I enjoyed the straight face humor! 😂😂😂
Haha I'm glad you liked it!
I honestly had no clue it could be that easy. Time to buy some lights!
Do it up!
Perfect perfect perfect! Thank you so much!! I was struggling just to get it open. Your video allowed me to get started quickly!
Haha glad I could help!
I used Plastic NM connector in the wire entry hole (where the knock-out is removed) to keep the 2 14/2 cables from rubbing on the knock-out hole. I believe it is code.
Very good to know, thank you. I'll fix that up!
Exact video I was looking for! Thanks man.
Of course! Hope it helped!
Well done. Funny.
This is my first comment on any youtube video. Your sense of humour is better than any youtuber. Keep the good work up.
Well I appreciate that, I haven't done this style since this video, maybe it's time to do another one soon!
hahahahahaha... the voice over and the dog "trying to make you fetch him" = best video!!! new fan here
Haha my dog is something else. Glad you liked the video!
Great info. Good humor :)
Very helpful, thank you!
My dog does the same thing, great video!
Thanks, Joe! Dogs are funny like that, they want to you to throw the frisbee, but they don't want to drop it!
Love the production value of this video & all its silliness XD
Our kitchen lights haven't been working even after replacing the led bulbs so was curious to see how this style of fixture are disassembled to snoop into the wiring and see if anything has come loose (after shutting off the power of course). It's an old house so maybe the whole unit needs to be replaced by now.
Oh, that tim
lol great video.. just a tip for UK viewers who will maybe do this job in their integral garage: locate the position of the joists so that the mounting screws go into the middle of the joist. The nails holding the plasterboard ceiling boards up will show you where they are. There's a whole world of trouble between the joists (water pipes and electric cables) patiently waiting for your drill to find them & ruin your life.
Thank you!
Thanks, mine didn’t come with directions, so I couldn’t figure out how to open it up! After that it’s home free!
Nice!
Great video
What you should’ve done is put a round junction box cover with a 1/2” knock out on it to make sure no bodies fingers since you can’t legally patch it because there is most likely splices in that box
Isn’t a junction box legally required?
@@SeWuHSidEE if the connections are made within the housing of the light fixture, that is considered the junction box.
Realistically (as long as there are no splices and the cable is secured within 8”) the NM (ie romex) can drop through a small hole in the ceiling as long as a strain relief fitting is secured to the fixture.
If connections are made outside of the fixture, then a junction box and cover are required.
AWESOME VIDEO!!!! FUN AND INFORMATIVE!!!
THANK YOU!!!
FYI: in order to remove the cover from the fixture body, you have to squeeze the metal fixture to release it from the plastic cover (the metal fixture is positioned on the inside while the cover is on the outside); work it from one end, squeezing, then all the way down to the other end.
Also, if you are going to use the plug-in option, it’s easier to remove the end cover plug and attach the cord BEFORE mounting it.
Excellent Instructions and loved the humor. Thanks for no loud music:)
1. Curious if it was bright enough?
2. I looks like you did not bother w/a strain relief bushing. They don't provide one. I have my old one.
I'm replacing a 2 ft (20 watt florescent) in the kitchen that I really liked, but nobody makes a similar one at a decent price. I have a humming 4 ft florescent in the kitchen, but prefer a quiet backup that are a tad less bright (and no noise) on occasion.
I just bought this exact fixture and got confused at step 2. Ha! ''Remove Wireway Cover (2) by lifting upward on ex-posed edges of part. Start in the middle and work outward.'' What messed me up was trying to start at the middle, per directions. It was not coming loose, so I stuck a small screwdriver along the edge to pry and scratched the paint. THAT is when I thought...hope there is a utube video for dummies. I 'thought' you started on the end, so I tried that & it was easier.
Loved your style. Great video!
Thank you!
Could you please suggest how to wire shop/ceiling Fluorescent Lights into an ordinary outlet?
Awesome video. I stopped listening once you brought in the Kong frisbee at which I began the oh my god haha I can relate laugh thinking of how I broke my best buddy’s (a super awesome rusty dobie who’s gonna break frisbee records for sure sometime soon) habit of fetching and not leaving it with a sweet little device from tractor supply. Wiring in remote included. He’s so much happier not having to try a tug of war each return. Leaves more time for catching.
Haha thanks! I need to take the time and train him, but he always thinks that if I have the frisbee, it's time to go back inside, so he never gives it up.
Yo this helps me so much
Nice!
Well done
Thanks
lol good video i sub you can put my beats in the backrond
It’s driving me crazy...who/what did you stylize this after? I feel like I should know, but can’t come up with it. This was the first video I watched from your channel. Loved it so much I subscribed and then proceeded to watch all of your other videos. You are now in my top 5 “must watch” UA-cam channels. Keep up the good work!
Wow, thank you so much!! The style was based off of Binging with Babish.
@@CasualBuilds I KNEW THIS SEEMED A LOT LIKE A BINGING WITH BABISH VIDEO 😂
🤣🤣
The author does like to from scratch, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.
EPIC video
Thanks!
Love the video and the jokes definitely becuming a subscriber
Thank you!
😂 awesome video
Thank you!
Ah the tooling with timmish cameo
Haha! Tooling with Timmish, love it!
What about the ground wire?
wow
He does it like I do. Acting like he's clueless sometime. So Funny! In reality he can probably do it in like 5 minutes. I remain clueless. 🤕
Please clarify something for me. Only 2 wires come out of the ceiling, a white wire and a black wire. However, the LED unit has 3 wires a white, a black and a green ground wire. You connect white to white and black to black but what do I do with the green wire that's in the unit? It doesn't have a corresponding ground wire coming out of the ceiling.
Hey George, I’m no electrician, but that green wire needs to be ground to something. I’d check with someone who knows more.
Thank you so much for this. I want to do the same thing, and have the exact same single-bulb fixture I'd be replacing with the bigger LED fixture. Since the new fixture puts out more light, does that necessarily mean it draws more electricity? Would I need to replace any breaker or wiring to accommodate? I'm thinking too much, aren't I? lol Thanks again, the video was awesome..!
Thanks for watching! I wish I could give you some additional insight here, but I'm far from an electrician. I'd definitely consult a professional if you're unsure.
How long did it took you to replace and install? 👌
Without filming, like 10 mins
QQ: Looks like you have two stip lights inside that unit and it looked like a ballast inside -- are these LED? Also, what wattage? I need to upgrade my garage/ workshop lighting (standard double) and wondering how big to go! Thanks for the vid 👍👍
alright, there are black, white, green and red wires. I get black to black, white to white, green/copper to ground, but what about the red wire ? I'm thinking i have something loose that shouldn't be.
If you think there's something loose that shouldn't be, it's time to call an electrician as I am definitely not one.
Red is most likely wired back to a switch. However, it is very unsafe to rely on the color of wires being used. While yes, in theory White should be Neutral, Black should be Hot and Red should be “Load”, this is not always the case. The only true way of knowing is to invest in a multimeter and take some test voltages. Or as mentioned above, call an electrician.
i thought i was watching binging with babish at first
Haha 100% inspiration for this video.
You’re funny. But you don’t try too hard to be. Great! I’ll check your other stuff out
I get it….
🙏🙏🙌🙌🙏🙏
For the life of me I don't understand why anyone would use the cheap shop lights that hang from chains and have a visible plug. This is so clean and nice looking!
We are living in the movie Idiocracy. People are too scared and dumb to open electrical boxes so the entire industry changes!
These flush mount hardwired lights are going extinct! We need more people to watch this video so they don't die!
😂 trying to prevent extinction!
Because the closer to the work bench, the better and brighter the light when working with fine work where you need a lot of light.
Is there any other lights (more visually appealing) that install similarly with the wire pulling through the light fixture? I have a wire stubbed out of the wall with no junction box or ceiling box in a closet. My initial intention was to do one of these but not sure if its going to be appealing enough to buyers.
I wish I had an answer for you - this is the only one that I've installed and haven't done anything like this in my actual house.
what kind of light did u have originally??
Funny!
More of a comedy show! Funny🤣
Haha thanks!
the real question is how do you replace the LED light strips ??
These should last for a long time, I think if the LED light strip goes out - just buy a new one.
Why did you skip the wiring part?
Binging with Babish?
Yep
But what if there is not a light switch because you were using a pull string?!
You could get the LEDs that plug into an outlet or you'll need an electrician to install a switch.
Same dog wants me to fetch him also 😒
If only they knew to drop it, they have so much more fun!
LOL!
Il
Great video 😄little bit humor and basic shit 👍🏻
