I already watched a lot of videos to make my favorite guitar tones matched but this vídeo help me a lot, thanks for your time. Greetings from Colombia. 🤘🏻
Dude, I don't know how to express HOW MUCH you helped me. I was doing it in another complicated way and the results were not as good as this... Just bought the Melda FEQ you mentioned omg the results are STUNISHING. Thank you so much!!!
Nice, dude!!! Very well done! Quick and to the point, good detailed steps, and a great result at the end! Im the guy who made that Melda preset :) I also have a video on my channel showing how to use that plugin. Same idea, just slightly different workflow. You used Reaper and I use Ableton so its rad to see someone with a quality video on a different DAW for folks who are Reaper users. Cheers!
Ah man that preset is amazing, awesome work! By far the best/easiest way to get tone matched IRs today. Thank you so much for making it, and thank you for sending a nice message to my humble wee channel. You rock!
Your results are fantastic! Thank you for sharing. Are you still using this method? I recently purchased a quad cortex and I can't find anything for EQ matching. I'm hoping this could work for me.
Yes, absolutely. Just replace the amp sim I used for the quad cortex and make your IR then import it to the QC when finished. The results should be the same
Definitely will subscribe, this was such a clear tutorial, I've been wanting to get Gary Moore's bluesy semi clean tone, do you think that would be stretching it? Anyway Thanks for This.
Hello!" please tell me, I do everything according to the instructions but through FM3, and there is no VST on FM3, and I get a sound like from an iron room. How to fix this.
Amazing, very similar.... Have you tried to match lead guitars aswell? I wanna do this but I suspect if I match a original lead with reverb and delay on it, the result may not be that good?
Thanks! The trouble with lead guitar is that it is usually wet with reverb and delay, this clouds the result. The way I usually approach it is to assume the rhythm tone is basically the sameas the lead tone but with a boost and delay so I try to add stuff to the rhythm capture to get close to the lead tone
Men thank you so much, your the best, this is by far the best tutorial ever created, you have a new subscriber, thumbs up for being a nice guy hahaha🎉🎉😊
Got a slight problem, when I listen the IR I exported on Melda'a cab vst, it sounds fine, but when I import that IR into some other guitar vst like Neural or Amplitube, the overall volume is way too low. How can I compensate that before export?
I believe there is a way to normalize the IR, I alway\s seem to make mine a bit loud. It'll take a bit of experimentation, but if set up correctly you should be able to make irs that are around the correct volume compared to other irs. If not you could try normalizing it
@@StevieMcLaughlinMusic i handled it afterwards on cubase somehow, cheers! Key thing is one needs to set the locators precisely as per to ir file, else is sounds like crap.
I have a problem when tone matching a bass guitar sound. The resultant IR when put in the amp sim creates extremely low volume output. Even with Tonex output cranked full its still very quiet. Why is it doing this?
I'm having the same problem trying to eq an acoustic guitar, can you help me? When I do the process with the tone of a guitar it works but I can't with an acoustic guitar.
I'm not sure, would have to do a proper test, but both seem to give results that I'm more than happy with, so the simplicity of the melda is the winner for me
Thanks for the video! A few questions: Do the pickups make a difference when you create your IR? If you make one with active pickups will it only sound "correct" with active pickups? Is the creation process the same if you have a .wav file of an isolated recording of a real amp that you used to own but don't own it any more? I would like to make an IR from that if possible. Can you tone match a full mix of a known song and apply that to an original song?
Hey thanks for the interesting questions. Yes the pickups make a difference. You play your guitar through an amp sim and Freeformequalizer analizes your sound then makes a match eq to make the sound you are producing sound very similar to a reference. If you change anything about your sound (eg different pickups) the ir you made will no longer be as accurate. If you need irs for multiple guitars you'll have to make multiple irs. But maybe the difference wont bother you, it usually doesnt bother me. Yes you can make an ir of a wav file of one of your old amps this will work great. Yes you can use the eq match to make your track sound similar to and existing mix although it wont magically make a bad mix great, you'll have to have a pretty decent mix to start with and then mix in the match eq using the smoothness control just a but until the flavour of the reference track is taking effect. Hope that clears up a few things 🤘
Wait a sec, you still need a distortion effect right? The exported IR is carrying the EQ characteristics only, or did I get it wrong? When you started capturing the IR with Melda plugin you already had some distortion added and not just clean guitar. Or did you apply the exported IR on a clean guitar at the end? Can you explain this please.
Yes I'm using an amp sim (Helix Native in my case but any amp sim will do) Turn off the cab on the amp sim so you're only distorting the guitar no eq, and replace the cab with the newly created IR
I'm still having an issue with latency. I've noticed that when I use this plugin there is always a massive delay between me playing my guitar and hearing it through my laptop. This is even affecting the ir that i make and when i go to use it, the delay is still there.
@@StevieMcLaughlinMusic Turns out I had simply forgotten to turn on minimum phase. I am using the trial version so I can't use the preset that comes with this plugin and had to recreate it myself. After i turned this option on there was no delay when using the plugin and the ir came out fine. Not sure if my issue with the old method was for a similar reason but that doesn't matter anymore.
Steve, can I trade you a cup of coffee for a downloadable IR for E. Sandman, purdy please? Seriously, let me know brother! Btw, I have active Het Set pickups.
Thank you for this. I was trying to create IR's, but was not turning off my IR on my source when capturing it.
Yes, I think it's more efficient replacing the ir completely 🤘

It could be a volume difference when you're making the tone match try normalizing the ir once you've made it, this should help

did you activate the ir used to make the original sound in the resulting ir? you put the resulting ir with the ir used in the preset?
Once the original speaker modeling / ir is deactivated it will be replaced by the newly made tone matched ir

Roger. That's surprising that you don't need to match the amp exactly, and that the EQ profile in IR will do so much... Thanks for your video mate.
Hello, buddy! I have a guitar that supports IR. Can I use any guitar sound as an IR file with my guitar by following your video?
Not sure what you mean guitar that supports IR, please explain
@@StevieMcLaughlinMusic I have an electric acoustic guitar named Donner Hush I Pro that has 20 IR slots, and you can upload or delete IR files.
