      Absolutely, changing the line from Round to Flat would solve the problem and you could animate it to change just at the end. Great idea.

  • @RipRoaringGarage

    Is there just a simple way to rotate the already existing callout line? Im sure your method works but Im not advanced, nor do I plan on reaching such a level. I just need a line at a different angle, otherwise, why bother with it when I can just make arrows in photoshop and just manipulate them that way?

    • @CBSuper
      @CBSuper  2 роки тому

      If you had pre-built arrows, you can simply have them on their own layer and rotate them using the layer transforms in the edit page. It may not animate or match up perfectly, but it will work.

      @@CBSuper I keep forgetting then remember (I dont use them often, but when I do, I have to use about 20 or more callouts). So, I just delete the text and use another layer for the text. Sure, its goofy but using nodes and this and that, is way overkill for just basic youtube videos with a little extra graphics. Thanks for the reply though.

    Hi, thanks for this. (You did say forwards instead of backwards in time a couple of times towards the end but that's just a minor thing)

      Yes, you are right. I often get mixed up when trying to explain going forward and backwards in time on the timeline.

    Hi, I followed this to the letter and it didnt work in my Resolve 16.2. Is it because mine is the free version? The text appeared on its own when I clicked the right or eft monitor window button under the 'text box', but not overlayed on the video. Each element appeared individually but, even when th eclip was rendered, there was no callout line, text or video playing overlaid on each other.

    • @CBSuper
      @CBSuper  4 роки тому

      Scholoco sounds like your text is not merged onto your footage. Make sure there is a merge node and that the text is in the foreground input and your footage is in the background input. All my tutorials are made using the free version, there are some differences, but most of the fusion stuff works in both free and studio versions. Let me know if that fixes it.

    • @scholoco7325
      @scholoco7325 4 роки тому

      Thanks CB, yes I had the merged node and the foreground/background assigned correctly. I actually think it ended up being due to my laptop GPU being too low a spec. It’s an NVIDIA gtx950m which is ok, but only 2Gb. Quite a few things started working a bit better when I lowered the playback resolution in Fusion to quarter res. I found that tip I think in part 2 of your ‘basics’ video. So it looks like the weak-ish card didn’t have enough RAM or power to handle the 2-3 things it was trying to do in fusion, at full res playback (it was a 4K clip) plus the clip animation. So the clips weren’t showing simultaneously on the screen, despite the correct instruction from the nodes. Thanks for your help.

    • @CBSuper

      Depends on how you save it out. If you turn it into a fusion comp and save it in your power bin, that works. You can save the nodes as a .setting file. Or you can turn it into a macro or fusion effect.

    The only aspect of these videos I'd improve is the microphone. The mix is fine, but the mic gets you a somewhat thin sound on your voice. A good channel for picking mics and gear even on a tiny budget is Podcastage . What is your level of expertise concerning audio ? I'm a 20kh+ re-recording mixer with a pre-shrunk ego. Feel free to ignore me :) .

      Airon Extelevision ha, I have almost no experience in recording audio and started making these videos 7 months ago on a laptop. I definitely need to improve my audio game. I think a lot of my issues come from using noise reduction in post. Since i have to remove the fan noise from my laptop and my mic is close to my laptop, i have to process the audio a lot to get it to a usable level. Having just watched a couple of those podcaststage videos, I can already see that Im doing several things wrong in my audio recording. Thanks, I’ll see if i can improve it in the near future.

      @@CBSuper You'll be fine with a basic setup of a mic arm($20), a mic whose sound you like and that fits your voice, as well as a possible audio interface. A USB mic on the other hand is a very easy to use device with most being attachable to a mic arm(Rode PSA-1 is a more expensive version but there are cheaper alternatives). Next is the skill of using an equalizer, your most potent sound shaping tool. Davinci Resolve lets you EQ an audio track in the Fairlight section with builtin EQ and Compressors. Compressors are your final basic tool for shaping your voice. You'll easily find tutorials for users just starting out. How To Use an EQ/a Compressor and you're off to the races. The Fairlight section has very competent tools that really only underwhelm on the asthetic side and a tiny bit on the usability. Otherwise they're great.
      Denoising, use it sparingly. You can use a noise gate(or its softer counterpart, a downward expander) to push noise down a bit. You can disguise long fadeouts by overlaying some roomtone across the entire video, or simply filling in empty parts. You'd be amazed at what we actually leave in films in dialogue mixes. Continuity always trumps the noiseless option. Broadband hiss is less offensive than constant whines, which can be addressed with a very narrow equalizer band type called a notch.
      Since you're handing out knowledge so generously, please do feel free to throw questions my way. If I can help, you got it.

    what i've realized is doing it without the tracker (just for stand alone images) following this tutorial doesn't help. I got lost when i omitted the tracker and tried to do it with just the line, dot and text. I can't seem to know what i need (maybe merge tool) to get the components connected so i can see my dot and line on my video.

    • @CBSuper
      @CBSuper  4 роки тому

      You're absolutely on the right track. A merge node will combine objects together. It only combines 2 objects at a time, but you can keep on using merge nodes until you get all your elements combined together. Then once your elements are all combined, you can merge that into your main comp. Let me know if this is confusing and I can make another video showing how to use the Merge node. Cheers!

      @@CBSuper At least i can say your video is one of the better ones but there's a reason Peter Jones requested this that a "beginner" can follow. I think teachers forget that Fusion is the hardest part of learning Davinci Resolve so speed throughs and unexplained actions don't help us at all. For example most beginners don't even know what the yellow and green arrow on the nodes are for and the relations between the input and outputs. If a user doesn't understand that everything else will be a struggle. But trying to follow along with your video here are the areas where i had issues.
      3:32 - what the heck just happened? You connected the tracker node to the Medial node and it automatically created a connection to the media out AND created a merge Node. It happened in a split of a second and you don't even explain it.
      4:07 - another split second speed through. What happened here? you clicked on something on the eclipse and the view changed? I'm thinking you clicked on the foreground bubble?
      4:26 - another split second action. So you can grabbed the node up to the video window and it switches to the view. Never even knew that.
      4:47 - you blazed through the connections here.
      6:23 - the main issue. How are you editing the poly line and it's showing on the picture along with your white circle?
      8:59min - it's super sonic speed but i think it's that drag to screen thing again.

      Thanks for the feedback, its sometimes hard for me to remember what I have taught in this lesson and what I may have covered in other videos. Of course, not everyone is a subscriber and watched all my videos in order, so thanks for pointing all this out. I will aim to slow things down and possibly start making two different types of videos, ones that are very step by step and for the "new to fusion" crowd and some more advanced ones where a good understanding of Fusion is required to move quicker. My goal is not to alienate the new fusion learners, but to teach both new and veterans as much as i can. I'll try to answer these specific questions and keep them in mind for the future "new user" videos I make.
      3:32 - That is called "Kissing" you use the output of a node and drop it onto the output of another node to auto merge them together.
      4:07 - I pressed the 2 key to load it into the viewer. It is the ellipse, but loaded into the view using the hotkey.
      4:26 - Yes, you are exactly right. You can grab any node and drag and drop it into the viewer panel to add it to the viewer.
      4:47 - Yes, all i did there was connect the node path, and sped up me rearranging the nodes to look a little cleaner for viewing purposes. But I realize I shouldn't really do that cuz it may throw off new users.
      6:23 - I have the final merge node in the viewer and I'm editing other nodes. I find that it is sometime easier to look at the comp in the final form while editing nodes that are further up the node tree.
      8:59 - Yes, i think i took a break and did something else and moved the nodes a little so I usually speed that up rather than jump-cut edit it out as I feel like users get lost, but I'll try to keep that at a minimum in future "new user" videos.
      I'm still in the process of creating Beginner Fusion tutorials, but feel free to check them out as they may be helpful. They are in their own Playlist and I plan on making a bunch more soon as I have time. ua-cam.com/video/uuJsJV82cCk/v-deo.html

    Problem - unable to save and re-edit or re-use a fusion composition !!!
    Whenever I create a fusion composition, save the resolve project, then re-open the resolve project, then try to edit the fusion composition, none of the additional edits ever get saved.
    I've lost hours of work before discovering this problem/bug.
    Is there a workaround and/or fix for this problem, to keep from simply wasting time on fusion composition editing that gets lost and fusion compositions that cannot ever be used across multiple projects?

      You can copy and paste your nodes into a text editor.

    • @CBSuper
      @CBSuper  4 роки тому

      As Sadi mentioned, you can copy and past your nodes to a text editor. Also try and select all of your nodes and right-click, go to Settings, Save as, then save a Test or whatever .settings file onto your desktop. You can then drag those files onto your node editor whenever you want to reuse a specific node tree/flow.

      I haven't lost a composition yet with the following procedure, though I have not checked whether this is still a problem in 16.2.
      I drag in a Fusion Composition from the effects section in the EDIT tab. Then drag that Fusion composition in to a BIN for the project. I delete the composition on the timeline then drag a new copy in from the BIN. That procedure was recommended in some UA-cam videos months ago, and I've stuck with. So far, no problems have resulted from this.

    • @GargoylesAtWork
      @GargoylesAtWork 4 роки тому

      @@AironExTv Ah interesting. I havent used bins before. When you save a comp in a bin, does that make your comp available in all your projects? Or just that project?

      @@GargoylesAtWork To make it available in other projects, drag in to a Power Bin. That's a separate part of the media tab you have to make visible via the menu View/Power Bins (almost at the bottom).
