- Thank you for watching me, a humble American, react to HUMILIATING: Gen-Z Can't Answer the Most Basic Questions. Wow
Thanks for subscribing for more UK reactions!
Being able to answer all this questions while being from Germany raises one question: What are you guys doing over there all day long?
one of 2 things, Either they ask like 100 people and pick out 10 that are the dumbest + in US the mostly learn about US, in history they only rougly learn about worldwide history but they mostly focus on US history, same goes for Geography. If you ask US person to name you every single state, they would have no issue with that but when you ask them to name a single European, Asian or African country, they wouldnt be able to tell Spain apart from France.
I'm European myself, so I'm not trying to hold a candle for the US here, but I'm pretty sure that if you ask enough people here in Europe - doesn't matter which country - you'll find more than enough idiots as well. Here in Austria we had (maybe still have, I don't know) a radio segment where they interviewed people with stupid questions, and those got answered wrongly as well. Stuff like "Sind Sie dafür dass die Schneefallgrenze angehoben wird?" (Are you in favor of raising the snow line?). And yes, people demanded that the snow line has to rise. And questions like that were a daily segment... so... yeah...
Read gossip, care about Kardashian booty.
@@brkr78 we used to have something similar here in Estonia too atlhough I really can't remember what it was about exactly. But we still have some comedy skits of fake news on the radio, and I bet it's fooled some people lmao.
@@pixel-rageunbound1935 So, what about the questions which were related heavily to USA geography or history?
Also, why every time some internet video points how lacking is the knowledge (that's not intellect, knowledge is learned, and nobody is born with it) in regard to geography in the United States, somebody try defending it with 'but foreigners cannot name the US states'. First due to the exposure to the US culture via movies, series and such I can name at least 3 ... not to say most of them.
Second, can you name all of the regions and other separate parts of China or Russia? If we're talking size difference (because most times when somebody say, 'can you point the regions of a certain European country', US defenders state that their country is bigger) - China is two, nearly three times as big as the States and also have a bit more inhabitants, while Russa have a bit more land mass, like four times bigger.
I won't argue about the video, there are a lot of uneducated people, in my country there are plenty with finished 8th grade who know only how to write their name and to work as slaves. Which just shows that you need good education for a country to be prosperous.
The fact that that girl knew more Kardashians than countries speaks volumes. So very sad.

Yes, the way they're so proud of themselves is the worst part. These interviewers do several of these interviews, I don't know how many, and choose the absolute worst of the worst because that's where the entertainment value lies. My German cousin did an exchange year in American high school in the past. He was bored the whole year because he already knew everything from his German school. The only new thing was American history. And he said the exams were too easy.
I did my exchange year in the Netherlands. They had U.S. geography book which covered the contential 48 states. It omitted Alaska and Hawaii. Have seen errors in a variety of textbooks from grade school through college. You have to check them carefully.
Yeah, and given the Americans not only have a short history, it seems like they can't remember it anyway. So your German cousin probably knew that too.
Had the English not killed most of the native Americans upon arriving in North America it would probably have an extremely rich history.

Greetings From 🇺🇲, Teacher report cards are called EOGs ( end- of-grade testing). President Bush, Sr. and his 'Leave No Child Behind Act' marks the origin of a downward spiral of education. States/Schools/Teachers quickly
focused teaching around those stupid tests in effort to maintain federal funding and job preservation over the betterment of students.
Next came political correctness. Most recently, woke social and political ideology reared it's ugly head and that's ushering in Idiocracy. Elites draw nearer to accomplishing an end goal, for it's easier to control a Nation of morons. If we, as a Nation, don't put a stop to the insanity that's being shoved down our throats from every direction, I fear, within a few generations people really will be watering fields with Gatorade if they are allowed to grow crops in the first place. On a lower note, not only are kids being taught that 2+2=The Number They Like That Day, because there are no wrong answers, many are also are taught how to provide "good" oral s*x in middle school. It's INSANE and vile what they are doing to our kids. If you haven't seen the movie "Idiocracy" you should.
It's easier to manipulate stupid people. That's why the government does not care about education.
As someone who worked in the education system, the real issue is the lack of accountability of the STUDENTS and their parents who think we are supposed to just pass their students. No Child Left Behind and Every Child Succeeds both failed children. Instead of learning, they are learning to pass or cheat on tests, which does not help them apply knowledge. And when students fail, it's the teachers who are blamed, not the students who want to goof off in class or their parents who are too busy working to care about their children's inappropriate behavior in school. Work in a school system as a volunteer for a year and you'll see why kids are failing. It's because of their parents.
Sure, y'alls education system is fucked, but if they try changing it, parents go into schools and protest, or start home schooling. At least from what I've seen throughout the internet. Not American, so correct me if I'm wrong.
Being born in the 60's, a kid in the 70's, and a teen in the 80's, and being raised in a bad neighborhood! There is no excuse for this!! Those are basic curriculum questions!!! We were taught all of this!!! We are truly doomed!!

@@christopherCline-ys6ex Thanks for answering my question! I've just spent a lot of time thinking about whether people should be kept in school rather for longer than for shorter when in doubt, and kept coming to the conclusion that the former is better. And while I still say this, this decision also leads to people who neither have much intellectual curiosity nor a tendency to just pick up on things through social osmosis attending an eleventh and twelfth year of school not knowing very basic stuff.
@@camelopardalis84 The educational system in the U.S. is in dire need of a complete overhaul. Programs such as "No Child left behind" and state level standardized testing have proven to be a detriment. These programs have created a culture where teachers are forced to "push" Students through that should be held back. I personally have had 11th and 12th grade students in my classes who have had less than a 4th grade knowledge of math, no knowledge of everyday things needed to survive such as counting money, reading a analog clock, how to type a correctly formatted business letter or resume. 25 years ago, the average G.P.A. of a 12th grade student was 2.5 or higher, today the average is 1.5.
If a child wants to learn these days, they will. There is so much available for free on the internet. Although far from perfect the problem is not just with the schools or teachers. We have a lot of neurologically damaged kids resulting from drug and alcohol exposure while in the womb. If there's any single problem it's that America doesn't teach sex ed, including what's going on in the pregnant womb.

He pointed out how messed up our system was when everyone went wild cheering for athletes but nobody showed any recognition of the importance of students in medical field who wanted to save lives or teachers who wanted to educate our children & others in vital fields that he asked to rise & stand for recognition .

The most astonishing I ever heard (in a similar video) was when a girl was asked to name a woman -- any woman. She was at a loss for words. She couldn't name _a single_ woman.
There's over 4 billion women out there: your mother, movie stars, scientists, writers, politicians, artists, ...
(I wouldn't expect many answers in the category writers, though)
She could have said her own name
I'm an early Millennial - the education I received in school was utterly inferior to the one my parents received: and I watched - even as a child - education become worse in that I knew I was expected to memorize answers for tests; without understanding the material. I knew then, in fairly early grade school, that I was not being taught how to think or how to use logic or how to solve problems: I was only being trained to repeat correct answers, nothing more.
Also - again - I watched as it only got worse before I even graduated. I'm not even talking about a generation of decline such as my parents to me: no - it got even worse while I was still in school. I watched the material become more and more direct, more obtuse, more narrow. There was less explanation, there was less experimentation, there was less abstraction in how topics were viewed and examined. Near the end the material was barely even gone over it was just "Here's the topic - know this answer - here's what the questions will look like - you are to know these specific answers - bye."
There was absolutely no conceptual understanding involved, of any kind, at all. Yeah, of course kids _"taught"_ like that are dumb as shit: they've literally never been given the task of attempting to process information and use logical deduction to figure anything out. They "know" what they have been told, in so far as one can actually remember discordant and discombobulated random tidbits of information: which - spoiler - you actually can't. So not only do they have an egregiously hindered, lamed, stunted cognitive capacity for extrapolation, abstraction and concept formation: but even what they were taught and memorized - get's lost days after they take their test because the human brain doesn't tend to remember random things with no other associative information present to retain it.
The U.S. education system is quite literally, non-figuratively, unironically, damaging children's brains by impairing their cognitive capabilities: perhaps permanently, I do not know if the damage can be reversed later in life - they may be permanently impaired by not having formed necessary neural mapping during their formative years. We may be walking into Idiocracy made manifest in 10 years when these functionally retarded kids become a substantive portion of working age adults.
Very well said and agree with this trend., particularly the following; "impairing cognitive abilities" which should and must be considered, imho. Thank you too for taking the time to convey what's happening in the current, let's say... non-teaching situation.
Good comments. I remember being taught HOW to think, the scientific method and logic before we reached 6th grade. I took two years of Latin in High School. We had to read a Shakespeare play each year, the last two years of High School. We had to write book reports every month and "term papers" twice each year - one in science and one in history. This was ALL public school. I was unable to go to college, but I became President of several investment companies and managed college educated people. I treasure the education I received even though for my age, it is an average, American education.
But yet the same idiots who were destroyed by this schooling demand that even more of the population are subjected to it.
while your points are legitimate, they are no excuse for some of those question. a lot of stuff are memorized, like names of countries, or what countries border the US, the number of seasons, or how many minuets are in a quarter of an hour. I mean you have to actively block information yourself to not know some of those stuff. they couldn't even name china, and you hear about it everywhere.
@@vahidoph While I don't disagree with you, I think you're underestimating how stupid these kids are. Example: "what countries border the US" - an example you brought up - lets examine that question. Do the kids asked in the video - know, actually know - what it *means* to "border" something? Likely - the only time they've really heard the word "border" such as "a border" or "the border" - it was in reference to the U.S.-Mexico border and all the people crossing it illegally.
What I'm proposing to you is that you have under-estimated just how drastic their lack of cognition is. That they can repeat words, like "border" - and use language in ways they have heard people use it: but they those kids may genuinely not actually know what that word means. Their "understanding" of the word "border" may not be _a barrier or boundary between two differentiated things:_ but rather - a specific line between the U.S. and Mexico. They may, sincerely, not understand the *concept* of a border and therefore the question genuinely confused them.
That's the kind of lack of cognition I'm talking about: repetition without comprehension. That's what you get when you teach children to be parrots, repeating correct answers - without actually teaching them to conceptually understand the material.
Parents need to file lawsuits against the government for not teaching their children, taking taxes from them in order to educate them.
Easier said than done, but parents are responsible for their children's education, all of it is not meant to be done by the schools. Children should arrive at Pre K/Kindergarten already having basic literacy, knowledge of the alphabet, knowledge of how to count from 1 - 10. Parents can require their children to read books that the family chooses, and/or to watch educational documentaries. Expecting the government to raise your children is a BAD plan.

I'm pretty sure he asked questions to dozens of people and only showed the wrong ones (and 1 correct for credibility), I mean no society would be able to operate if everyone or at least the vast majority was this dumb.
I can see the same thing here in Portugal, the vast majority of people we see on TV and other media have absolutely nothing in common with the common citizens we see on the streets. But in the end dumb people are loud and entertaining
When I lived in the US as a foreign exchange student in 1969 we were tortured at school with US History including every minor battle and general during the civil war so not one student would be unable to answer any question on that topic. Knowledge about geography was as bad as obviously today though. I was constantly asked questions about Germany as if it was an underdeveloped country.😂
worst part of that was....Even if they knew the correct answer, editing would make that magical cut and put in the answer to one of the other 20 questions these people might have had to answer. So basically no way to win that. I've seen an interview with a student who talked about it (he was in Gymnasium) and he said, that they majorly effed him up because now he is the "dumb one" at his school, even when he answered most questions right (just not in the show, as his answers where manipulated) and was an average student.

The only ones I had a bit of trouble with was the dime question. That's only because I'm from the UK and wasn't sure how much a dime was worth. And the Kardashian question.
Same here. I grew up with old Finnish marks, then we swapped them for euros, and now I live in the UK and use pounds. Cents and pennies I'm familiar with, but never knew how many cents a dime is since it's not used in these countries. The word itself doesn't help the same way quarter or cent do. (Although doesn't look like some Americans understand the meaning of a quarter either, so cent is probably well beyond them too..)
Same. I grew up with pounds, shillings and pence and could still tell you the value of a tanner, bob, florin, half-crown etc so how an American could not know the value of a dime is beyond me. Or perhaps she did know the value but lacked the ability to multiply by 10 to know how many made a dollar!
Questions like 'how many continents are there? I would have had to think about, name them in my head and add them up but I would have got the right answer pretty quickly.
Like you I could not name one single Kardashian though.
Same here but I knew that in rap songs a dime refers to a woman that is a 10/10 so I deduced from that that it was 10 cents and worked out the answer, that type of critiical thinking and logic is sorely missed from most of the people in this video.

A couple of years ago, I had the following experience at Walmart. It was just after Easter, and their Easter candy was discounted 90%. They had those delicious, creme-filled chocolate eggs, which were originally priced at $1.31 each. I wanted 20, for a reduced price of $2.62. But they rang up $0.50 each. I pointed out the problem. The check-out girl couldn't figure out 10% of $26.10, so she called her manager. SHE couldn't determine the correct price! If **I** had been unable to calculate %10 of some price, they never would have let me out of the Fourth Grade!
And 10 percent is so easy, you just knock off the final zero and move the decimal point.
I learned this even earlier, because my family is religious. They taught us a tithe is 10%. When our parents would give us a dollar, they had us save 10 cents for tithing, & 10 cents for savings.
How about handing the Cashier $20.50
The bill was $10.50.

I'm 72 and I knew all this at 10 years old and in fact my 5th grade year was totally dedicated to the Constitution in class! We had to memorize. "We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal" etc!! " You know..."the thing" lol😂😂😂😂
We had to memorize the preamble to the constitution in the fifth grade and had to know all the multiplication tables. What are these people going to be like in their 40's. This would be a mind blowing question for these Gen z nuts. Ask them to explain They're, there, and their or at least write it.
This makes me weep for our country.
I was laughing so hard I started crying and got tummy ache 🤣🤣🤣
Ryan your expression is hysterical. I could not believe the answers that were being given still gave me a good laugh 😂😂🇬🇧🇬🇧
I’m literally weeping !!! 😂😂😂 I’m 38 weeks pregnant and for sure going to go into labor. This is so sad it’s hilarious
That would have been a good question: How long is the gestation period in humans? But I think these people don't know what "gestation" means.
It's not hilarious, the thought of these people being the only hope for humanity one day is absolutely terrifying.

Dont join lgbtq cult they dont eben know what a woman is.
Damn. Even people who aren’t from American are answering these questions 😂😂
I'm a Gen-Z from Spain and I even know most of these questions minus the Kardashians' one. I feel offended as a fellow Gen-Z, they make me feel despair 😂😅
After listening to this, I feel very smart, having known all the answers (and I hated school, especially history and geography (not to get them confused with one another)).
It’s mind boggling 😂 I am trying to answer for them over here too. I’m scared for the future of our country
We are doomed. They can't do any math, no history, no geography ... their teachers should be fired and sent packing.
I am totally gobsmacked. Sorry Ryan. I could see the frustration in your face.
More of these please mate.
