  • We all love the Neumann U67, but let's be honest... at $7000 it's out of reach for the majority of us, myself included. JZ Microphones from Latvia is offering up a hand built alternative for $5700 less that is stellar!

Koala Nectar I’ve used the BeesNeez Oliver on my then 8 year old son and had a number of comments as to how good he sounded.
Importance of sound is in this order
      1 performance
      2 instrument
      3 room (unless close micing)
      4 mic
But a magic mic can really make a huge difference

    • @koalanectar9382
      @koalanectar9382 5 років тому

You could have used literally any mic. If people said it sounded good that has much more to do with the amp\guitar than the microphone. You can hear lots of things when something is telling you what you should be hearing.

I’ve always been curious how it compares with Neumann’s TLM67. Of course I’d love to hear them next to a real U67 as well, but the TLM 67 isn’t too expensive used and is multipattern, so I’m curious. The piano recording, specifically the softer one, was really nice.

Hey, Glenn! I am pretty much completely new to recording stuff and I just want to start out with some simple acoustic guitar recording. I have a Zoom H1 as it was the cheapest and most portable solution, and while I am quite happy with the recording quality for the low budget, I am getting a lot of breathing noise while recording my acoustic guitar, even when the mic is really up close to the guitar. God that's a nice sounding Yamaha and those mics do it some fucking justice.
For clarification, I am a Yamaha trained piano technician. From the relatively small sample of the piano's dynamic/tone range, I can tell it's a well looked after instrument. But for those mics to capture its sound so beautifully is just phenomenal to me.
Honestly I don't know anywhere near as much about microphones as most of the people in this comment section, but I probably know more about pianos, and I can tell you that if a raw audio track of that grand sounds like that, those mics are worth every penny you shell out on them.

I've been following JZ microphones since their first releases after founder Juris Zarens left Blue because of his genius creations being literally stolen by Blue management. For a too brief time, JZ released their own versions of Zarin's incredible designs he had created while at Blue microphones with improvements that Blue never caught onto. I have the JZ-2 and JZ-1 and use them everyday in my studio and they're sound is breathtaking. Back in 2009, JZ turned out their Winter Editions of these masterpiece microphones but they were only sold in Europe . They were white versions of Zarin's creations ie the blueberry, the mouse, the kiwi, and the cactus, with the JZ logo on them. I received a signed Christmas card from Juris and staff that featured a beautiful display of all of the Winter Edition models. Someday, I will find one somewhere. Blue, of course, after Zarin's exit only came up with tepid versions of his genius. In the process, they drug him and his family through court and ruined them financially, I would love to try the new JZ microphones especially this 67 and demo it to television stations I recommend hardware and software to.

Hey, man. I know a band (local, Russian) that has some interesting material, but the way their mixes are done... They just have a ridiculous amount of compression in every song (on their latest single it just kills all dynamic). Luckily, they read messages and comments (since their fanbase isn't big yet), so I told them about it. Not sure did they hear me or not, since the only answer I got back was ":)))"...
How can I make it more clear that shitheavy compression doesn't do any good to song? I know that it blew up since loudness war and Death Magnetic was remastered in same way Guitar Hero mixes songs, but still
    P. S. Name of the band is "ТАйМСКВЕР" (pronounced the sameway as Time Square).

Hey Glenn! Greetings from Montreal! I've been recording since I was 8 or 9 with those mini-reel tape recorders in the early 1960s, and later had a short-lived career in broadcasting as a Master Control Room Operator. So let's agree that, after tacking on 50 years as a recording engineer and artist, I'm just a wee bit persnickedy about my microphones.
My question to you is: How does this new-fangled high-end Latvian mic compare with an MXL V67? (Or vice-versa would be more appropriate.)
I'm a retired SOB and I'm pretty skint, and curious if my MXL V67 could hold its own at a 15th of the cost. It's just the pedestrian one, no tube or fancy switches: I just may buy a second for stereo recording.
Thanks, Glenn: I love your videos and "fuck you" to your viewers. (Just joining in on the joke, folks!)

Wow, those mics are fuckin' amazing! Guess this poorboi needs to start saving up my nickels and dimes to get one to replace the Berhinger C-1 large condenser cheapie that I have now (which ain't *bad*, but it absolutely sucks compared to this!)...I'm guessing it'd completely transform the acoustic stuff I record on my little old Tascam DM-02 eight track Portastudio, huh? Then again, so would putting together a proper low buck home studio! ;-)

Ok so I’m just turning 18 I have a job I work for and almond rancher and pretty much any kind of job of the weekends I can get my hands on and I’ve paid for all of my guitars and amps and strings ex (crate 120 watt half stack, Jackson king v kvxmg) and I put it any of my free time into my music anyway I write music with my band I like it I’m not saying anyone else would but I like it and I would like to share it with people but I don’t know how to go about booking live shows or finding out how that works if you could make a video or something explaining that or at my age how to go about getting heard because if there is a thing I do know live shows are probably the most important in today’s day and age to get heard with all these other not so good bands (not saying I’m better I’m just saying there not good) that are out there. Could you explain how I go about doing that and. To all the people out there who don’t pay there engenders PAY THEM I WOULD BE PISSED TO IF I WORKED FOR 8 to do yard work some turd doesn’t want to do and says they shouldn’t pay me work is work you payed for there work do your part show up on time and fucking pay them make a good relationship and in the long run you never know if your consistent and are good with your work they might just try to hook you up.
