  • RK3 Designs is a learning studio focused on teaching how to create beautiful epoxy finishes using Stone Coat Countertop Epoxy. These tutorials include epoxy countertops for kitchens, bathrooms, and much more. This channel provides tutorials for DIYers, contractors, designers, or artists.
Rhonda Dracoulis Founder and Primary Instructor
RK3 Designs started as a way for Rhonda to showcase her creativity but has blossomed into a way to help others find theirs. Her obsession with painting led her to start refinishing furniture and kitchen cabinets. She found customers wanted a nicer option than laminate but more affordable and customizable than natural stone, which lead her to countertop epoxy! Since then, she’s helped thousands of students, from across the country (and even Canada eh?).

You make any combination of colors look great! 👍 It's a wonder Kenny doesn't get to spend his nights in the barn... 😅 If you don't smooth out your edges on this piece, will you have a harder time demonstrating on it next time? It looks like it would be lumpy on the sides?

The top, with your blend of colors, looks wonderful! But I was watching to see how you handled the rounded edge because that's what I have on my countertop. I'm sorry to say that rounded edge looks horrific. I'm sad that you didn't show how to deal with that effectively.

The edges on this particular piece was a rock edge and honestly, during lives I often get sidetracked and neglect my edges. If this were an actual piece I would be installing, I definitely would have address the edges. To get perfect edges, you’ll need to make sure you’re using enough resin. If you’re having issues with your edges not being smooth, I recommend you bump up the amount of resin you use / sq ft. When you pour out the resin take your hand and rub on the edges to encourage the resin to flow evenly. Make sure you have any 90 degree angles on edges are rounded and smoothed over during the prepping stage. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to give us a call.

2 questions. To do an under mounted sink, do you cut the plywood 1st? Is surface strong enough to place a hot pan on one of those lifted metal hot pads about an inch off the surface?

We use MDF as opposed to plywood. You’ll get much better edges due to not having layers. But no matter what substrate you use, you’ll need to cut out the under mount prior to pouring a design due to the fact you need to finish the inside edges. If you cut out after you pour, you wont have finished edges inside the sink.

At 32 minutes, I don't see anything covering the edges.

While doing a live, I often get squirreled and neglect my edges. If this were a piece I was doing for an actual install, I would have definitely addressed my edges.
