My 12 year old Daughter appears to have a fascination to play electric guitar. Not sure where it will lead but needed to provide an AMP for her, and after all the reviews and videos, I was first going for the Positive Spark Go a smaller version but for the price difference and for the superior sound quality and the digital app that really expands her possibilities I said let’s for for the Mini. So I just picked it up at our local Guitar Center for $194. Considering the 40 for $234 but battery and portability of the Mini it won out. I had the person at Guitar Center play a little tune so that I could hear it, I was blown away, the level of music fidelity was incredible. Being able to connect it to her laptop to record and being able to use it as a portable blue tooth speaker, WHAT more can you ask for in this amazing package. Very happy with my purchase today, I know that she will be very excited when she opens it Christmas Day! Thank you for the video
The mini ticks all the boxes for me and, amazingly, sounds a lot better than it's big brother. That sound difference prompted me to order one , with just a couple of hours left on the promotional window! Thank you for a really well done and informative video.
Yep I figured out why the mini sounds better going through the actual speaker.. The overall sound when you plug it into a good set of monitors no matter what spark thing you have. I'm sorry coming from a line 6 Helix I can't get any good sounds out of it it just sounds very dark, not responsive not very high definition no matter what I do. But when you play it through the little mini speaker it kind of cleans everything up not so dark more definition definitely better. I was wondering if there was going to be a difference there is A BIG DIFFERENCE IN SOUND QUALITY BETWEEN THE HELIX AND THE SPARK.. I don't know if it's the 48 verses 44.. 16 versus 24 or whatever. The Helix is just so much more responsive more realistic, closer to the tube amps that I actually build.. actually stunningly close. Play the point where I'd rather use the Helix in most situations Now I've had the mini for a couple of days using it over and over again I find that it's very good for acoustic guitar and singing with backing tracks all coming through it. Just loud enough just makes it when you sing with your natural voice no microphone. Ask for the heavy metal stuff it's okay it's possible The foot switch will help when I use my backing tracks but definitely not at the level of the line 6 helix sorry. And if you're wondering ( Yes I tried amp for amp supposedly the same exact models on the Helix and the spark mini there's a big difference.. also there's way more parameters on the Helix.. For instance on the BE 100 Freeman. You have all of the controls on the Helix, the sag, the bias everything.. not on the spark as far as I know. Just have basic controls. I put basically the same effects in front and it back to copy the Helix NOT EVEN CLOSE.. just doesn't sound the same or right. But possible. I noticed this with all the models. That's all I can say I'm sorry that's just my opinion coming from a tube amp builder with 35 years of experience of playing instruments, musical engineer, singer, songwriter my favorite thing to do is play lead guitar..
Totally agree with your review on the sound difference. The Mini has far better clarity. I have heard a couple of Spark 40 amps with JBL car speakers fitted and that improved things a lot!
Great video Dave! I pre-ordered one quite quickly after they went live. Like you - the biggest draw for me was portability and the volume. I need something loud enough just for me - rather than the whole house.
It's funny that I am amazed that someone actually gave me the key specifications at the start of the video and played through the amp's speaker. I swear to God, some reviewers out there are as thick as concrete. Great to see someone actually doing due diligence. Thank you.
Man... I was initially shocked at how much better the mini sounds than the original - but then I remembered that I immediately sold my original because the sound was so muddy. That Meteora sounds fantastic.
Thanks for such a thorough review. I play outside twice a week through a Boss Katana Mini, which is fine but featureless in terms of any of the other things I have at home, and I need to plug it into a battery I bring along with me, though it can be powered for about four hours with six AA batteries. The Katana Mini is also only 10 watts, but that's fine for my purposes. I was just looking for something that is going to sound better when I play outside and hopefully be rechargeable, and wanted something as compact for carrying as the Katana. The Spark Mini, I will actually have less to carry. The Spark Mini is all that and a bag of chips. Even at home, I can use the software features which I don't currently have, as I'm not in a band. I'm sold on it. You crushed all my doubts.
Thanks Dave, great video. Can't wait for mine to arrive. Pre-ordered it quite a while ago and was originally supposed to receive it in May, but got an email about a week ago that it is now delayed until July. 😞 Definitely going to get that Xvive wireless system to go with it when it arrives!
Great review Dave. I’ve been thinking about the Spark for a while now and this review has swayed me towards the mini because I will mostly use it for practice and cosy jams and singalongs with friends. Read through all the comments also which helped me out. A super-useful review. Cheers.
Excellent video Dave! This was the comparison I've been waiting for. If you get your hands on a NUX Might Air, a review and/or comparison to the Spark Mini would be interesting. Thanks!
Just got a 100 coupon for gc and I think Im going to go get this today. the battery is all the difference for me. Thanks also for the link to the xvive system. I already put it in my amazon basket. Great video and relay proud of how great you channel is doing. congrats and keep it up. Merry Christmas
Thanks Ernie! If you still got a chance to change the Xvive, I would suggest the lekato 5.8Ghz system on Amazon instead. I’ve found it to be much more reliable with the signal! Merry Christmas to you!
A great review.. You got straight to the main points which are the most important between the two amps.. I think that the mini sounds more organic and real in terms of how the guitar should sound...The 40 has the volume but there are shortfalls in that it does not sound as fresh and upfront. Given that you can use the mini with a kind of direct out or with a spark cab to get gigging volume is a bonus and a deal breaker for me.. And then the incredible versatile mechanisms that it has... Thanks
Does this mean that is also working as an audio card? I want to connect my guitar to my stereo. I can connect it with aux or bluetooth but i don't like 2nd option. The issue is that i need an interface to produce sound😅
Freaking excellent review and tutorial and you play like a rock God!! Thank you!! I have both and the Go will be shipped to me end of May. Again, great review Dave!! New subscriber.
If you had to choose only one, which would you choose? The Marshall Kilburn ii or the Mustang Micro? Considering you wanted to play anything from Hendrix to Godsmack.

show how to use the learning/play along feature. search for any song you want and it shows the chords to that song. or the feature to play a riff and the amp recognizes the sound and applies a drum backing track that matches your riff.
The mini costs peanuts to charge up and zero to use as no mains electricity is needed... This makes it a great deal as well as a great sounding amp.... If you need gigging volume.... just buy the positive grid 150 watt powdered cab.

I wanted to use the mini even just as a final amplifier for experiments with the Kemper Player ... Latency is a tragedy, a shame. They say it's a feature, it can't be fixed with a new firmware. It sounds good with the acoustic; for that, did you use a preset from the app or one of the physical presets, if the latter, which one? Also, is this loud enough for a "living room" and open-air gig (in a garden) with 10-15 people?
You’re welcome! Yes definitely loud enough for living room and small garden. I was using an acoustic preset from the app, but you can save it onto the hardware if you want. Thy physical presets are able to be changed as you please through the app.
I've noticed a sudden sound drop when playing sustained tones on my new Spark Mini. Tried various presets, guitars, and cables,, but the issue persists, especially with higher notes. Any similar experiences or suggestions?
That helped @GuitarZero2Hero. Thanks 🙂 Though, for some presets, I have to disable the noise gate or turn down the threshold almost entirely to prevent the sound from dropping. But at least, I can now adjust it.
Nice video....I have the spark 40 and recently got the spark mini so I could use it for my guitar students. I needed something small that I could carry easily. Is there a way I can use the app on my phone for both? The spark mini won't work with my phone. I even tried disconnecting the spark 40 from my phone, but it still won't pick up the mini. What can I do? Thank you.
I bought one. The sound is mostly good, but it is almost impossible to eliminate effects. There is no clean default. When I turn off all the effects with the iphone app, there is still delay and reverb. Not at all useful as a practice amp for serious players.
Hey there! Sounds like there might be an issue with how you’re connected to the app or there’s a bug on your amp, because I can very much get a clean sound with no FX through the app.
Hi Dave! QUESTION: I want to have the proper USB charger brick by the time I receive my Spark Mini. Should I purchase a charger with a standard UBS type A input or with a USB type C input? Thank you!!
What about the mini when it comes to singing along with your voice is it loud enough can it keep up with someone's voice like at around a campfire with electric guitar

Thank you.
Make a tuto of the sound of beginning! Great video! Big up from new caledonia !
Thanks
Aw thanks Dene, very much appreciated.
That meteora is pretty sweet
I actually don't like the Spark 40 after hearing how much better the Mini is to my ears.
What type model is that thin line blond telecaster with HH pickups? Is that CIJ telecaster or a '70s vintage blonde remake? Is it for sale?
Thanks
Can you use the Mini headphone jack into the full sized Spark input jack to access it’s two 4” speakers?
Hey Bill, yes you technically could.
Can you link wireless headphones to it???
Hi Dave! QUESTION: I want to have the proper USB charger brick by the time I receive my Spark Mini. Should I purchase a charger with a standard UBS type A input or with a USB type C input? Thank you!!
Cable in the box is a USB-A to USB-C cable. And the recommended specs are "DC 5V, 2A. Compatible with most mobile USB-C chargers"
@@GuitarZero2Hero Thanks. Cheers!
I feel like this would be a great living room amp
I would love seeing a video about “wild world by Cat Stevens”😁
Will be out in a few weeks
