I get so nostalgic watching this and I'm a dude that you would never think watch a soap operas but I grew up watching this with my mom and dad Best show of all time by far bar none Todd Manning the greatest villain in television history if you ask me such a complex character but just a son of a b**** lol That's why I love the guy
I Love and miss this daytime soap. It was my favorite. I especially love the opening theme where Peabo Bryson sung. From December 17th of 1984 until December 31st of 1991.
This is GREAT classic OLTL!! It brings back sooo many memories and makes me think of the old days and how holidays and families meant something back then. Now the worlds just messed up all together. Boy what I wouldn't do to get these days back you know?
That was EXCELLENT!!! A kick-ass montage with the kick-ass theme from the kick-ass years of OLTL! I don't know where those writers are, but somebody needs to call some of them back to work. Because I'm not feeling this show like back then.
I love how the montage captures how small a town Llanview is. In a place like Llanview, it's too easy to lose perspective and little issues consume entire lives.
Wow! Kick ass video! Those were the days of OLTL....Seemed the writers then really delved into the characters then and didn't rely on so many sensationalized plots as they do today. I used to like the O'Neil girls and their story line! Also LOVED when the character of Jamie Sanders was on....EVERYONE hated Jamie! Ha! Thanks again for this wonderful post!
That is fun. I love seeing where everyone supposedly lived. Also loved seeing Harrisburg,PA again. I used to drive over the John Harris Bridge back and forth from college in Maryland to home in NYC
I LOVED THIS THEME MY ALL TIME FAVORITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MISS THAT SHOW. MEGAN, JAKE, ORIGINAL SARAH, BO, TINA, CORD, MAX, GABRIELLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I forget if I already commented on this or not, but WOW this is an incredible video! This has always been my favorite OLTL opening, and to see such an extended version of it is just spectacular. Thanks for making this!
I found an article from August 29, 1984 that wrote about the OLTL film crew shooting in Harrisburg. It took post-production about 2.5 months to make the opening. They likely released it on December 17 since it was close to Christmas.
Got curious and took a Google Earth trip to Harrisburg/Llanview PA. Those who either lived in or visited Harrisburg can verify. The opening shot shows (from top to bottom) the Walnut St Bridge, the Market St Bridge, and a railroad bridge. The closing shot shows an additional railroad bridge, the only bridge in the shot that doesn't reach City Island.
Who's that at 1:37? She looks kinda like Meg Foster, of Cagney and Lacey fame (at the title pages, she's dead bottom left, doing the look over the shoulder pose).
This wasn't the first time someone wrote a song for this soap called "One Life to Live". I distinctly remember one from the 1970's that was sung by a male character. I wonder if someone can dig up that song.
I love this song. OLTL forever! It's the longest version I have heard of this, and I can't find it on a download or cd anywhere. Does anyone know how I can get this?
Copyright infringement precludes Bryson's version from being released on any of his albums. The theme is the property of ABC and the soap. Ridiculous caveat, I know, but the real reason why you'll probably never get a 'clean' stereo version of this great theme released anywhere any time soon - if ever. Regrets.
I know it's a shame as I said Peabo tried to get the rights for the song to be released himself but failed!! But I'm sure that there must a studio version of the song in the ABC vaults sitting and waiting to be released!!
Whose the older woman always appearing in front of the diner? She seemed like she was on the show for a while and I wonder who her character is and what happened to her
can anyone give the character name for each of the pictures? i've been watching one life to live for about 25 years or more and cant remember all the faces.
Leonard Stabb he played Hunter on OLTL and played Hart on Guiding Light. In 1993 in a hand gliding accident he got severe brain damage and had to relearn how to walk and talk it was a very sad story and through the years GL would have benefits to raise money for him and last update I heard he was doing well he will always have the brain damage, but is doing well living in California.
That was wonderful! What great memories. I don't remember the 4 colored people that they show at 2:21. Does anyone know who they are? I have always especially liked the coloreds on the show, like Evangaline, but I don't remember those 4.
The audio for this is the only available recording of the complete song. It was from an episode of the show where Peabo Bryson appeared and sang the song at a fashion show. Unfortunately the audience clapped at the end and kind of ruins it. But its better than not having this piece of history.
I am not siding with the person who used the term "colored". If you had read the comment correctly, you would have seen that I consider both words to be demeaning and that neither term should be used. Please read carefully before you jump to conclusions.
@freshin888style - I did too, it's so mean of them :( I think it's going to be Children's TV, and you know kids need more TV. Ugh! Kids need to go play, let us have our soaps! Please!
Such a great theme!!! Wow! So many great actors and characters... I miss these days and this excellent show!
Only on abc daytime
I get so nostalgic watching this and I'm a dude that you would never think watch a soap operas but I grew up watching this with my mom and dad Best show of all time by far bar none Todd Manning the greatest villain in television history if you ask me such a complex character but just a son of a b**** lol That's why I love the guy
ONE LIFE TO LIVE
I Love and miss this daytime soap. It was my favorite. I especially love the opening theme where Peabo Bryson sung. From December 17th of 1984 until December 31st of 1991.
One life to live the daytime soap opera of all time on ABC
This is GREAT classic OLTL!! It brings back sooo many memories and makes me think of the old days and how holidays and families meant something back then. Now the worlds just messed up all together. Boy what I wouldn't do to get these days back you know?
the incredible Peabo Bryson sings this song, but its not on sale anywhere...classic singer and song!!!
lhaynes79 He also did sings for the ending credits from both Disney's Aladdin and Disney's Beauty and the Beast.
I miss one life to live
Me too! I wish ABC could have kept the rights to the few OLTL characters that moved to General Hospital.
Darcell Benjamin amen
ABC should have cancelled the lower in ratings GH and kept OLTL! GH is boring and I am sick of the Sonny, Carly, Jason and Sam shit show!
43yrs of one life to live
I loved this theme of all of the OLTL themes and wished they had kept it.
It's my favorite theme too. I hated when they changed it.
I miss it. My whole family watched for decades.
LakewoodDallas same
LakewoodDallas they were my family💔
“Time only knows.... how long forever’s goonna last... 🎶 and we don’t eeeven need to aaaask.....” 🎶
Total flashback to childhood! Thanks!
Wow! Great job! I wish this theme song would be released to the general public.
Even though it's dated now... this was my favorite opening for OLTL. Peabo Bryson has a really nice voice. Thanks for posting!
That was EXCELLENT!!! A kick-ass montage with the kick-ass theme from the kick-ass years of OLTL! I don't know where those writers are, but somebody needs to call some of them back to work. Because I'm not feeling this show like back then.
I miss watching one life to live on tv
Perhaps the most iconic soap theme of them all. I'll give you TOMORROOOOOOOOW - Let me BEEEEE the ONE to SHARE it with!
🎶 “And each day that follows... Cause we only have ONE LIFE TO LIVE!” 🎶
I love how the montage captures how small a town Llanview is.
In a place like Llanview, it's too easy to lose perspective and little issues consume entire lives.
Really sucks that this song was never released.
Luvd this show!!!

Peabo Bryson sings great at the end of both Disney movies, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast.
43 Years Of One Life To Live
i love you one life to live! best tv show ever! i will miss you sooooooo muchhhhh!!!
This is a very unusual video that I found here but I am glad to know about the full extended version of the One Life to live theme.

Wonderful montage. Excellent work. 5/5
I LOVED THIS THEME MY ALL TIME FAVORITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MISS THAT SHOW. MEGAN, JAKE, ORIGINAL SARAH, BO, TINA, CORD, MAX, GABRIELLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND OL TRASHY NIKI SMITH
adored.
man that guy can sing his face off!
I forget if I already commented on this or not, but WOW this is an incredible video! This has always been my favorite OLTL opening, and to see such an extended version of it is just spectacular. Thanks for making this!
A few months ago a friend posted on Facebook what song would not be appropriate at a funeral. This theme song was my answer.
I miss all abc soaps. They were the best
That's a TON of cast members!
OMG!!! The nostalgia 😑
Great job!
Thanks for posting this.
You completely nailed it!, fwdthinker. (Why can't the producers see all this the way we fans do?)
It was on UA-cam once, but got taken down. It's the same audio from his appearance on the show that's backing this well crafted amateur montage.
LLanfair has all the elegance of Duluth
Thanks!
This oltl opening for last 7 years since 1984.
I found an article from August 29, 1984 that wrote about the OLTL film crew shooting in Harrisburg. It took post-production about 2.5 months to make the opening. They likely released it on December 17 since it was close to Christmas.
Do you have the article still?
This is incredibly GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! Could you please post the other versions separately? Like 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991-12/1991.
April 28th... IT'S BACK!!!!
What!?!?
Soapnet's gonna start showing classic episodes of OLTL starting in September. And, I hope they show some with this theme!
Regardless of who sung the soundtrack for this awesome soap opera in the past, Peabo Bryson's version is by far the best and most memorable.
It was written by Jack Urbont and it was called the OLTL theme
can you kindly forward this theme to me?
RIP Andrea Evans aka Tina
Good lord !! how many people were on the cast that year???...lol
I love this song. OLTL forever! It's the longest version I have heard of this, and I can't find it on a download or cd anywhere. Does anyone know how I can get this?
Where were these clips shot at?
That's the one where the female cast made a mini-fashion show just when the song was about to end.
Does that old lady live in the diner?
I believe that she did.
Copyright infringement precludes Bryson's version from being released on any of his albums. The theme is the property of ABC and the soap. Ridiculous caveat, I know, but the real reason why you'll probably never get a 'clean' stereo version of this great theme released anywhere any time soon - if ever. Regrets.
Just Mickey Mouse (aka Disney/ABC) being greedy as usual, lol.
I know it's a shame as I said Peabo tried to get the rights for the song to be released himself but failed!! But I'm sure that there must a studio version of the song in the ABC vaults sitting and waiting to be released!!
Indeed. It also means that Peabo Bryson cannot sing that song in his concerts.
Whose the older woman always appearing in front of the diner? She seemed like she was on the show for a while and I wonder who her character is and what happened to her
There are many characters and actors unknown for me.
At 2'23 there are two actors, who are they ?
Isn’t one of them Dan Wolek.
kick ass
can anyone give the character name for each of the pictures? i've been watching one life to live for about 25 years or more and cant remember all the faces.
What is a races?
Not really. The ending shot shows an additonal bridge. When I made that custom opening, I couldn't find that particular view of the bridges.
Is that Harrisburg pa
Avery Shoffner
Yes
Unlike today In the 8o's people were a lot more socially conservative and parents were very strict with there kids .
And as far as I know, both the shots of the Llanview Bridges ARE identical, unless somebody wants to prove me wrong (and give me the differences).
who's the guy at 2'20 ?
Leonard Stabb he played Hunter on OLTL and played Hart on Guiding Light. In 1993 in a hand gliding accident he got severe brain damage and had to relearn how to walk and talk it was a very sad story and through the years GL would have benefits to raise money for him and last update I heard he was doing well he will always have the brain damage, but is doing well living in California.
shawn19782001 Thank you for your help. I hope he's doing well.
That was wonderful! What great memories. I don't remember the 4 colored people that they show at 2:21. Does anyone know who they are? I have always especially liked the coloreds on the show, like Evangaline, but I don't remember those 4.
The guy at 2:23 looks kinda like Tom cruise lol I think that's Kevin I'm not really sure cus I started watching oltl in 1997 !!!!!
what's the annoying clapping from?
The audio for this is the only available recording of the complete song. It was from an episode of the show where Peabo Bryson appeared and sang the song at a fashion show. Unfortunately the audience clapped at the end and kind of ruins it. But its better than not having this piece of history.
@@terrychambers5535 if you say so.,..alrighty then
I am not siding with the person who used the term "colored". If you had read the comment correctly, you would have seen that I consider both words to be demeaning and that neither term should be used. Please read carefully before you jump to conclusions.
Isn't it intresting that Dr. Wolek dissapeared around the same time that Dorian Lord became Cheif of Staff? Hmmmmmm.........
who is who??????? lol
@freshin888style - I did too, it's so mean of them :( I think it's going to be Children's TV, and you know kids need more TV. Ugh! Kids need to go play, let us have our soaps! Please!
who is who??????? lol and it would be better if blair song it!!!!!
pot meet kettle. Using the term "hillbilly" is just as demeaning as using the term "colored".
Terrible theme.
