One of my favorite soap opera themes, used from 1984 to 1991. Dave Grusin, who composed this theme, also composed the theme for "St. Elsewhere," another of my favorite themes, which is on his 1984 album "Night Lines."
What memories. Who can forget Tina Clayton Lord, Dorian Lord, Asa Buchanan , Clint Buchanan and of course Victoria Lord. Mitch Laurence was great villain.
I really miss watching on One Life to Live and all my children I believe it's a downfall of ABC cancelling the least two shows about they were on for such a long time 40 something years I followed it anyway thank you for let me publish this comment I really enjoy listening to the music of the shows at the very least thank you Lord for providing that on UA-cam
I agree with you about missing the shows. But honestly, the soaps were not good anymore from the late 1990's onward. The quality dipped in so many shows (writing, acting and production). I guess they felt the hit with less advertising dollars. But these years in the mid 1980's to mid 1990's were the heyday and golden in my opinion. We didn't know it then, but the genre was never going to be the same.
It's in F major. The middle section (@0:52) shifts over to D major and he gets there through C# in the bass. In order to return to F major, Gruisin uses some nice pivot chords. (@1:06) Bass movement goes from G -> G# -> A-> (V of IV in F major) -> B flat - then we're basically in F major. Bbmaj7 -> Am7 - Dm7 - Bbmaj7 - Bhalf diminshed and we're back to a dominant seventh back to F major. I'm working on a piano sheet music arrangement for fun. LMK if you want it.
JAldridge86 This is wonderful, you just published the clean and real instrumental theme. I just... I just don’t know what else to say, just.. thank you very much. 👍🏻
This is also the backing track version Bryson sang to on an actual episode of OLTL. HE add libbed from about 1:45. The scene featured something like a fashion show.
@@chadnichols5215 Years ago Peabo Bryson himself tried to get his version of the theme song released but sadly he failed. And since he doesn't own the song he can't sing or perform it live! ABC Circle music owns the song and the rights.
BigSingh They used this for about 3 months before the first cast update. That's when they switched to an orchestral version. Another year later, they added the vocals.
Right. I liked them more translucent, as they were initially (though I admit some pics were almost TOO vague & unclear). They later brightened some, while switching most others to the more solid reddish-sepia tone... What I didn't like is when they ultimately freeze-framed all the scenic backgrounds (save for the running dog of Cord's). That took some of the "life" out of this One Life opening.
Also around by no later than late 1987, 1988 the show's title logo at the of the opening credits went from multicolored to white. By 1989 or 1990 they eliminated that 2nd shot of the Llanview bridge after the title logo finishes.
We are not liars to ABC's One Life to Live, and Dave Grusin's theme we love from 1984, is not like any other long before the soap ended its run in 2013, after a few theme songs including this instrumental version of this theme song. Thanks for this upload.
Holy crap! Where did you find this? I've been looking everywhere for a very awesome quality copy of this theme from OLtL for the longest! Thank you so much for this gem!
@GVINPS - I'm considering signing up for that site, but before doing so, I wanted to know if they had a certain track--the 1989 instrumental closing from Loving. If you have an account there, and could report back to me about that, it would be great! Thanks.

Dave Grusin is amazing!!!Could listen to this one and the St. Elsewhere theme song on repeat and be happy 😊

My favorite theme music extended version
One of my fav theme songs
Peabo Bryson’s vocals made it sound even better.
Here's what you do when you don't find the rainbow's end, this time.
Here's where you go when it looks like the rain won't end, don't cry.
I LOVE THIS SOAP THEME----I AM NOT LYING!!!
Mark Rushing why would you lie?
It was amazing!!
Is the performer by chance, Mike Post, who did St. Elsewhere? I can hear that part at 1:20
Mike Post didn't compose St. Elsewhere. Dave Grusin composed the St. Elsewhere theme, as well as the theme to One Life to Live.
did you know Peabo Bryson sang in this theme this theme is the instrumental version
This music was the best ❤
Best version!
What memories. Who can forget Tina Clayton Lord, Dorian Lord, Asa Buchanan , Clint Buchanan and of course Victoria Lord. Mitch Laurence was great villain.
I LOVE this!!! And you can hear it’s cousin the St. Elsewhere theme in it.

Let's live today, and find someone to share it with, cause we only have One Life To Live.
As Saturday Morning
7:00 am-7:30 am 2005-2007
This is the one life to live theme music in high quality audio since it was composed by jazz pianist Dave grusin back in 1984.
What key signature/chords is it? I play piano and would love to know how to play it by ear.
It's in F major. The middle section (@0:52) shifts over to D major and he gets there through C# in the bass. In order to return to F major, Gruisin uses some nice pivot chords. I would definitely like it! I'm thinking the first part is F, Bb, C? I may be wrong :) You can PM me or send it to jecht@kent.edu :)
This sounds like St. Elsewhere, which is also in F major! Grusin is AMAZING.
@@joshuaecht yup....and that one is also a Dave Grusin masterpiece

One life to live the daytime soap opera of all time
I did not care much about the soap opera but I always loved the theme song.
Same here!!!
This is AWESOME!!!!
Super soap opera us diffusé dans les années 80 sur la télévision française qui m'a passionné dorianne, vicki, tina mes personnages préférés
I loved he could moved the words apart then bring them together add spin to theme song 💓
Time only know, how long forever how it lasts?
And we've got even into past.
My favorite lyrics in the song! “Time only knows how long forever will last!”
I loved watching OLTL!

I miss this soap opera when is it going to come back on
I miss this one I .wish .it was still on .tv
We'll find tomorrow's a place where us, I know because.
Did he compose the background music as well for the show? Some of the characters like Tina, Gabrielle, and Sarah had their own instrumentals.
OLTL and all other New York based soaps like All My Children, Ryan's Hope, Loving and all the Procter & Gamble soaps are all gone by 2014.
Do you have a good quality of the update that was done in January of 1985. this is the original 84 version
I was wondering why this sounds like a midi clone.. this is the 1984 version, not the 1985/1986 updated version.
