If you are looking for a light, reliable, maneuverable and confortable for city riding bike and enough powered to have fun in the twisties, and you want YOU to be at the control (not the electronics) the Suzuki SV650 should be your choice. A truly welcome back to basics motorcycle.

I've been riding bikes for 15 years. Im an advanced motorcycle instructor here in the UK and I honestly cannot think of a better bike than this for real world riding. On the tight Twisty country roads I like to ride it has the perfect amount of power and torque. You can use it all and feel like a hero but won't kill yourself if you try to do so. It's softly sprung enough to take the bumps and jumps but firm enough to throw around and really push.
On track yeah there are better bikes and if you want to spend a lot of time on motorways you can use more but for the real world, where I ride this is just perfect.
I don't own one at the moment but I am after getting another.

I bought my used 2000 SV650 (red) in 2000 with less than a thousand miles and in as-new condition for $5000. The owner was a LEO and his wife said either the bike had to go or she would. He chose the marriage and I got a new red SV650. I hope it worked out for him, because it sure worked out for me. It became my filtering weapon of choice commuting along the crowded SF bay area freeways. Narrow, flickable, enough power to get into trouble, and a lot of fun in the Mount Diablo hills. The SV became an all-time favorite for me, but we moved to the mountains of Idaho so I traded it in (with a handful of cash) on a new 2002 V-Strom 1000. I still miss the 650, and sixty thousand miles later I still have a place in my heart for my (former) all-time favorite bike. The V-Strom has taken 1st place. Suzuki's V-twins are the used bike deals of the century.

I absolutely agree with everything you said. I'm a V Strom 1050 and owner and I'm very happy with it but I'm thinking about buying a SV for the city traffic. God bless all your rides!

Having owned both an SV650S and a Weestrom, the Suzuki 650 V-Twin engine would have to be one of the best mid-capacity bike engines out there. Lots of low down torque, smooth power delivery all the way to red-line, great on fuel, sounds great with a pipe and is full of character/personality.
Plus it's pretty much bulletproof and capable of some seriously high kms before needing to be touched. There are some car engines out there that wouldn't last as long! Such a shame it won't be around for much longer...
Plus it's easy to tell if it has ABS. The ABS sensor wheel on the wheel hub is very obvious just by looking at it!

    Hello. Greetings from Manchester, England.
I've had approx 30 bikes. Everything from DRZ400 through to ZX9R, CBR600, Fireblades RC51 etc. The SV has a special place in my heart. I had a Gen 2 and currently have a Gen 3 to sit alongside my 95 Blade.
Understandably, it needs suspension work. I fitted a Nitron rear shock, updated springs and 15w oil.
Finish is on the budget side too - thin paint on fork legs, lack of plating on bolts. But it's a cheap bike!
I get approx 60mpg. It has a great characterful engine and always brings a smile to my face.
    Highly recommended!

Great video. First review for the 2023 I've seen. I just picked up the 2023, same model about a month ago. I love it. Put over 1300 miles on it already. Great bike. Very nimble, fun, alot of low end torque, everyone asks me about it. 2 up is comfortable. I ride with my bright on at night time, it definitely is a difference. Good factory tires as well. Seat has been great on riding for 12 to 16 hours a day with short breaks at times. The engine break sound is very good. I did adjust my clutch lever right after I bought it. 2 up riding is comfortable at city and highway speeds. Will definitely be getting a windshield for it soon. Seating position is comfortable.

I have that exact bike! 😊In the UK with ABS
honestly,it was unbeatable value( around £1000-£1500 cheaper than anything in the class, and after a test ride I fell in love with the engine.
It's not the latest spec but a good honest reliable and most of all FUN bike which suited me perfectly....back to biking after 20 gap.
The dash has brightness level adjustment too 👍

Great video! Sums it up very well. I have a 2019 with ABS and am super happy with it. I added an MRA fly screen designed for this bike and works great. I am 6'2" and find it comfortable on long rides. Just FYI, the brightness of the screen is adjustable if it seems too dim. Over time, say after 5K to 6k miles i found mine to shift and operate more smoothly and run better. I have as much or more fun on this simple "analog" bike than on more expensive bikes. Couldn't recommend it more highly, especially for the price.

Lots of forums and support on line from older dudes who actually know stuff. The bike is a blast and it’s exactly what it’s supposed to be. It is its own man. Classic bike that runs like a champ. And if you are an older person wanting to sell your big expensive bikes, but still want to rip around a little this bike is a blast and easy to handle with surprising power and torque. you wanna check for the ABS look if there's a perforated disc installed on the front and rear rear inside the brake disc inner diameter, supplied with the sensor. In majority it won't click in decelerating from low speeds in a non-abrupt manner. There again, if your ABS clicks in while in the street it may save your ass form rubbing the asphalt, whether you're an experienced driver or not - you learn thoughout your life and you never know what situation out there you're yet to experience. I find first gear on the SV650 to be particularly choppy. I'm a beginner so I know a lot of that is on me and the best way to mitigate this is to practice and it's gotten a little better each ride, but is that normal for these bikes? I took my course on a Tiger 660 and didn't have an issue with throttle control whatsoever, but the SV650 really lets it be known when I'm not being as meticulous as I could be. Heard this is also just kind of a thing with V-Twins. More curiosity than anything. I know I'll get better with practice.

5 or 6 inches from heel to butt doesn't sound correct. This bike has a rather straight up riding position from my experience - although the geometry is a few inches different with the latest version vs. mine. But other than that, thanks for the video. I have a gen 2 and love it.

I've owned 2 of them, and it is *not* comfortable. There is virtually no seat padding and you keep sliding forward into the tank - it starts to hurt after 45 minutes, even with an aftermarket seat. And the pegs are going to feel too high, as well, for most people over 5'10" (I kept getting leg cramps). The stock front suspension was so soft, it caused a lot of suspension dive when braking. Other than that - yeah, it's a great engine.

So in the USA you can buy bikes without ABS? We have no choice in uk, all have ABS by law.

Nice bike !! I'm between the mt-07 and the sv650, which I understand is good for track too. What are your thoughts on these 2 for beginners or intermediate riders ?

I would say MT for city hooligan and SV for a more all round bike

I heard the SV650 starves for oil if you wheelie it. So if you wanna do wheelies: MT07.

    • @butlersracing7692

As a 2010 SV 650s owner from brand new and ofcourse having ridden many MTs, newer SVs and surrounded by dudes I know with MT07s I'd confirm for wheelies, Hooliganess and offline torque the MT07 is better by a tad. For track.... Suzuki SV650 is a bit better than a little bit better😂 Both are super reliable mechanically, easy to work on and cheap to maintain and so that's down to a scalpal If you were to split it. "If" however you should crash, it must be said that the MT07 would damage more than SV but parts availability is better and parts slightly cheaper.
Both ARE 👏 👏 👏 and the choice is hard. At the end of the day either one is cracker and you won't be sorry.

ABS engages quite easily on the street, if the street is shit. Like most streets in Greece are. The tyre goes over a bump, ABS thinks it's losing traction and engages.

@MotoJitsu yeah, I've checked. None available in my area. However, I'm going home to NOLA for a visit, and should be able to schedule something there. Oklahoma is a viable option as well. Point is, I REFUSE to spend money at a dealership that won't offer a test ride. The 1 that does, will most likely get my $$ .

most don't offer test rides...so I don't get that perspective...but it's your life. I'd just keep researching and find what you actually want/need and find it.
