      No sleep, no sleep
      You too, o, Princess
      In your cold room
Look at the stars that tremble
      Of love and hope
But my mystery is closed in me
No one will know my name
No, no, I'll say it on your mouth
      When the light shines
And my kiss will break the silence
      That makes you mine
(Her name no one will know)
(And we must, alas, die, die)
      Vanish, o night
      Set, stars

Puccini is a very great composer as well. But I agree 100% : Pavarotti is the best tenor ever in my understanding of singing. In this specific case, he did establish a "bar" that will be the highest standard possible for many generations of singers. I listened to that aria hundreds of times by him....and never get bored.

Sorry Michelle, but I have to correct you. Although many popular operas are sung in Italian, not all operas are in this language. There are famous operas in German ("Die Zauberflöte" from Mozart, "Fidelio" from Beethoven, "Der fliegende Holländer", "Die Walküre" from Richard Wagner ), in French ("Carmen" from Bizet, "Iphigénie en Tauride" from Gluck, "Faust" from Gounod) and so on.

This is a LOVE song for a WOMAN ... sung by a MAN in love.
The Great Maestro named LUCIANO PAVAROTTI had this incredible ability to touched your SOUL.... using his exceptional VOICE. He usually touched and vibrate the souls of the HUMANS who heard his arias...... and even the ANGELS stopped in fascination just to listen to this miracle voice of a MAN.

@@maureenreacts3358 Indeed. It's sang in Italian from an opera called 'Turandot'. In the story, Turandot is an emotionally cold princess who wants any prince wanting to marry her to answer her three riddles - if not able to answer the riddles the suitor will be beheaded.
The prince (=Pavarotti) has fallen head over heals with the Princess Turandot and is not able to sleep before the day of the having to answer the riddles. The prince has not revealed his name and the song talks about nobody being able to sleep. Here are the words of the aria in English:
      None shall sleep,
      None shall sleep!
      Even you, oh Princess,
      In your cold room,
      Watch the stars,
      That tremble with love
      And with hope.
But my secret is hidden within me,
My name no one shall know,
      No... no...
On your mouth, I will tell it,
      When the light shines.
And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine!
(No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.)
      Vanish, o night!
      Set, stars! Set, stars!
      At dawn, I will win!
      I will win!
      I will win!
      And in Italian sung here:
      Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma!
      Tu pure, o Principessa
      Nella tua fredda stanza
      Guardi le stelle che tremano
      D'amore e di speranza!
Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me
      Il nome mio nessun saprà!
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò
      Quando la luce splenderà!
      Ed il mio bacio scioglierà
Il silenzio che ti fa mia!
      ll nome suo nessun saprà
E noi dovrem, ahimè! Morir! Morir!
      Dilegua, o notte! Tramontate, stelle!
      Tramontate, stelle! All'alba vincerò!
      Vincerò! Vincerò!

Luciano Pavarotti is the greatest tenor of modern times. His interpretation of Nessun Dorma is the closest you can get to hearing the voice of God. Crying while listening to this is normal. For me, it is an emotional and a spiritual experience every time I hear this song performed by him.

Pavarotti sang in the language of life. Of love and laughter and sadness and pain. He sang from his heart to the heart of the listener with each note. When he sang of love you felt the warm caress of love in your chest. Likewise the pain of heartbreak when he let that loose on an unsuspecting audience.
I am a 70 year old retired U.S. Marine and I cry when this amazing man reveals his power, range limits and wonderful timbre of his almost magical voice. Every time I hear him I feel so fortunate to have done so. He is no longer with us but in heaven, singing directly to god.

What a beautiful video. I’m so happy you have been introduced to the amazing Luciano Pavarotti- one of the most famous opera singers in the world. This is his most famous aria. Sadly, he has since passed away. This from the opera Turandot - this aria is called Nessun Dorma (none shall sleep) and it’s in Italian. You are precious!
