Anytime I want to procrastinate, I watch UA-cam. Sometimes it gives me a better attitude and motivates me, and other times it just makes time go by faster. It's a tool. But like other tools, it not the tool itself, it's how you use it.

"I need to get better before I get started" - that is EXACTLY where i am right now. where i've been for months, maybe even years now. i'm a writer as well, and i know my ideas are good, and i believe that i am skilled enough to write at least that crappy first draft, until i can re-work it into something better. maybe one day it will be good enough for publishing. but that can never happen if i don't get my arse up and write, even though the plot isn't polished enough yet, even though not every person has the perfect fitting name yet - that'll come.
so - thank you for your advice. thank you.
ps. i have the biggest crush on your beard. and maybe also you in general haha.

    1. I have finals coming up and this helped a lot!
    2. I think it's so cool that your a UA-camr and a rapper. Speaking from my desi background it seems as if all people care about nowadays is money and being a doctor, engineer, etc for social stratification purposes. No one works for happiness anymore...but finding people like you make my day #representdesibrother You make the world a better place! I hope when I'm older I can make a difference like you're doing!
    3. I love that as I scroll down I see you reply to everyone's comments....really shows how much u care bro
    Thanks for everything :)

Someone may have possibly said this already, or you may already have heard it
But it came up in one of my early morning classes, our professor mentioned it while addressing self motivation. He used the analogy of the elephant and the mahout, where the elephant is the 'emotional' self and the mahout is the 'practical' self. The elephant is a large animal so it can be difficult to control, however if the rider manages the elephant properly they will collectively benefit. I really enjoyed this analogy and it does help me when it comes to motivation to think of it,
So I thought I would share in case it hasn't been heard yet!

I was never academically proficient, and i had a hard time paying attention in high school, but now that I'm done high school I want to be a psychiatrist sooo bad. But the thought of taking chemistry and actually getting a doctorate in university is really intimidating. It's like looking towards the top of the mountain but not being able to see the top and with no clear path there.

This is beyond true, long term goals are far more important than short term rewards. Wasting time is not beneficial to anyone's future and only leads to stress later. I'll try to remember this next time I start to procrastinate while working. Amazing message, Humble!

Ok, (this might be a long comment so beware). First, thanks for doing the video HumbleThe Poet, I egotistically believe this video was made for me since it's been my main problem this month and it's been getting me down. Now, what really gets me is when one is on top of everything, they finally got a routine, they finally got things down, feeling productive and amazing. Then comes the day, the week, the month that they decide to "wind down" but then when they actually try to get back on track, it's really hard to get back to that frame of mind and it is frustrating. Now, there are those people who are amazing in cramming their hours/ grinding and get things done amazingly with complete coolness. I'm always fascinated by IISuperwomanII in her vlogs where she goes on for so many hours in front of her computer getting things done with such an amazing spirit. If you are like me, however, you are not so good with that. I get serious panic attacks when I know I have a set amount of time to accomplish something, so I know that I should give myself a good amount of time so I can actually function. I actually think sometimes times that i shouldn't take a break so I don't lose that state of focus, no clue how to do that...I don't know, lol! Sorry for the rant. Love your videos and I hope you reach the number of subscribers you wish and keep doing videos. Salam!

Hahahaha this is perfect. Earlier today I was updating my CV and cover letter to apply for a job I really want to get. Is it finished? Did I send it off yet? No and No! I'm not confident in writing it because I'm scared I'll fail. Of course, I'll definitely fail if it never gets sent! I laughed out loud at 0:53 because that was so me!! I'm getting back at it right now!

  • @demianhaki7598

Definitely agree on the short-term vs. long-term conflict as a main cause for procrastination, especially during smaller, specific goals. When it comes to bigger decisions, I think we should also consider that procrastination can be the result of doing sth we may not really want deep down, sth that doesn't suit our strengths (e.g. pursuing a college degree/job that we didn't choose ourselves or didn't reflect on first) or the result of defense mechanisms, like the cliché of the talented person who ends up an underachiever due to unhealthy perfectionism and other fears. In that case, procrastination can represent an inner block that we have to resolve.

Just telling myself that I can take a break soon helps me get started on my work: If I tell myself that I can take a break after reading for 10 minutes, then I'm usually far enough into the material by then that I'm able to just keep going.

I've always thought that being aware of your own downfalls would be beneficial to solving your problems and in some ways this is the truth but at the same time when you are generally aware of what you have to do and you don't do anything about it nothing ever happens. It would almost be beneficial to not realized because then when someone would tell you it might shock you into action. That being said having someone else tell you things you already know kind of makes them feel more real. It's strange that it seems easier to become motivated from other people's words than your own and I think that is a confidence issue. In any case I'm really enjoying your content (I'm a pretty recent sub). Thank-you for having this conversation with me in video form while I talk back inside my own head. :)
