The SAV 20.12.48 in War Thunder is one of the Top 5 most Over Powered Tanks in the entire game. It has a 120mm cannon with a 1.2 second reload and it can dunk on anything that it faces.
The SAV 201248 is one of the most unique tanks in War Thunder. It's a case mate tank destroyer slash self propelled gun that fires a MASSIVE 120mm shell with almost 1kg of TNT inside it. It has just shy of 100mm of penetration but this doesn't matter since even if it doesn't penetrate it still has a good chances of taking out your foes.
It's on sale right now and goes away on the 15th, so make sure to get your hands on it before it goes. Absolutely outstanding. One of the best tanks in War Thunder.

In 1948 Bofors (the autocannon manufacturer that sold to literally everyone) wanted to get into military vehicle production. They modified a naval gun and fit it into this thing, meant to be a tank destroyer. Only 1 prototype existed since the Swedish Army decided it was too expensive.
sweden seems to have just a shit ton of assault gun designs around this time, is there a reason for that like a specific part of swedish military doctrine?
@@mrstrongarmsgamer5748 yes, at the time, the Swedish high command staff and professors at the war academy that had closely observed tactics and equipment of both sides during the war and secured as many samples as possible of the surplussed equipment after the war as possible, had concluded that if invaded by any of the formerly allied great powers, Sweden would not be able to hold the borders for any significant time due to the quantitive difference that could simply never be matched.
As a result, the only option remaining was to compensate by extreme quality, mainly in firepower and in hardened dispersed base facilities for critical elements of the navy, airforce, command functions and costal artillery.
The armed forces was thus reconfigured completely for a multi tiered defense in depth and guerilla war strategy for hitting hard and fast from unexpected directions and then fade away using the very broken and complex Swedish terrain to maximum advantage.
The defense industry was also government owned to 51% which resulted in a very streamlined procurement and design system where serving officers actively participated in both concept, design and practical testing of prototypes side by side with the technical engineers and designers. Excluding ignorant economists and politicians from everything except the budget framing and ensuring that the devices produced held a conscript proof quality and really worked as intended in the field, because the country could not afford any risk of design flaw or corruption caused equipment failiures if the cold war had turned hot.

Their doctrine for fighting is pure ambush, because they know that they cant win in a straight up fight against their most likely invader (USSR at the time)

@@LichtL-ni3rl don't forget about the 2S38 with it's .5 reload with APFSDS with over 200 mm of PENETRATION, it literally takes less than a second to kill a tank just by shooting it's sides, it also has solid shot with around 150 mm of pen as well, armor is not so great, it's fast but acceleration is not good

Pound for pound this is, without question, the single, most overpowered tank in the game. Basically a 120 mm that fires almost like a 40 mm autocannon. Insanity. It is the scourge of its BR, and I dread facing the Swedes at that level.
You didn’t seem them all that often until it went on sale in the brainiac quiz last month. Now, everywhere.
I find that the M3 Lee is more OP than this, personally. Both its cannons are quite deadly at its BR, and you can fire one or the other of them on average every 2 seconds or so or instantly in succession when needed for followup, WITHOUT waiting for first stage to fill in. Plus actually decent armor for its BR. And you can go "hull sideways" and be almost invulnerable. Don't seal club as much these days, but like 18 kills games weren't uncommon when I did/do with it
Maybe. But it's also waaaaaaay less common than something like a 2s38 that's available year round to buy.

This slapped-on IKEA contraption is OP as fuck. Aside from its insane reload, people often sleep on the fact that its APHE round's penetration is mediocre, but has like 890gr of TNT. If you shoot enemies' engine compartment or dink on the commander cupola the whole tank goes kaboom.
I have this tank so I understand the pain of facing it.
I had a match on Marginot Line where one of these little shits flanked my team and delete 5 of us in mere 10 seconds... It was so damn impressive I wasn't even mad.

Gee, thanks gaijin, now there's like 1-3 of these on the enemy team in every single match I play now.
And because of this video, one cannot play around the 3.7 BR without seeing at least 6 of these in every match right now. Thing is, most players forget to use their HMG's on it, or to bring a few HE rounds. (And yes, I do own this vehicle and have a disgusting K/D with it, but I only bring it out sparingly now...I seal club in low tier enough without using this autoloading monstrosity!) APHE will pretty much go right through without setting off the fuse.
3.7? I've seen these dudes in 5.7/6.3, and they are still pretty oppressive if they're a good player. 3.7 must be wank right now vs Sweden.
When this was first released, you could expect many of them locking streets in city maps.
It was a sure thing, bet your ammo rack on it, for a few weeks straight.
this was the first of the tanks released to buy into the swedish tree when the swedes came out. one of my best purchases. it is incredibly easy to kill though and many players tend to hone in on it with planes.
I saw the notification for a limited time sale, saw this low BR tank and figured "meh... I wonder what's so great about a fixed turret TD?"
Then I saw 120mm with 1.4s reload with god tier depression/elevation and immediately threw my money at gaijin...
I do admit though, in the short time that I have been playing this thing, I cannot get more than 5 kills before I end up earing the whistle of a bomb or the sound of plane engines very quickly approaching my location...
I have a friend who's new to war thunder, and they just got 3.7 US ground. We played about six or seven games and in every game, every single game, there was a level 100, sometimes a squad of them, in the SAV 20.12.48 bullying low tier. It was just unplayable
Take a few HE shells with you in case you detect one of these suckers
Yeah that's just how the game is, I've been playing since like late January of 2024 and 1.0 to 4.0 was just absolute pure hell and almost impossible because of all of the losers who have maxed everything and can only kill the brand new players that have no idea what they're doing and had no idea you can press M to open the map.
It really should be based on BR AND the player's level. Like you shouldn't be level 4 and be up against a level 100 that's been playing religiously since the game was even thought of by the developers. Like yeah if you "get good" you can kill them, but when you are brand new and have stock vehicles you're modifying, you can't do shit.
I got to like 5.7 as my highest BR, and I am absolutely staying right there, it's fun, got a decent selection of everything (but no light tank iirc and in the US tree) and fits my personal play style of "I want to have fun and have silly moments where I have a main character buff and survive a 1v7 in a M4A2 76 in a last enemy push for the A point"
This with Pyorremyrsky was honestly the best nation entry bundle pack I ever bought.
This has been my favorite for over a year now, over 2500 kills with it and the most kills in a single game for me at 14.
This is also a great tank to re-spawn in if your team is getting spawn camped, I've cleared out 4 tanks before my immunity ran out and was able to go on and help win the match for our team.
@@keepinitrealjj Yup, for me it's by far the highest KD tank out of all I own, but it never came close to my 24 kill game record with the absolutely majestic M5A1 Stuart.
Most kills I’ve got in this thing in a single match was 28.
Of course, I don’t have a premium account so it gave me about 70k silver lions that match or something..
I'm using it to farm god modes at 10.0+ 😂😂
If there's one vehicle I wish was in the game for China is the ZBD-04 IFV. It is of their own design, but it does share some components with those of the BMP-3, mainly a 100mm gun similar to the 2A70, and a Chinese produced version of the 30mm 2A72 (Called the ZPT-99).

I spent 10 minutes trying to figure out which vehicle in my Swede tree was "time limited" because I've been working that tree the last few days (tired of getting Vidar'd and cheese wedged) and just picked up the wedge last night for down the road and said "okay that's it for this month." Saw the intro, heard "on sale now $15" and immediately relaunched the game to grab it. The clock is tiny! Happy to have this in the hanger! Also in match one - don't show people that route! I love going that way because like you said, "no one expects anyone to come this way."

I was playing this earlier with a mate of mine playing top tier 😂 it was still really fun and capable of taking out top tier tanks like T80/90's, M1A1/1A2's etc, as long as i saw them first it works great. First shot at their barrel, then their tracks and then go for the weak spots. Had a lot of fun with this tonight 👌🏻

I've played the heck out of this tank over the years, murdering low tiers and MBTs alike, though I'll give everyone a word of advice.
Shermans are a near hard counter against it. The SAVs gun struggles very much frontally against them, as it has barely not enough penetration to go through them effectively. An angled KV-1 is also a very solid counter
You could do a Sherman HE run specifically to hunt for SAVs, could be fun
EDIT: another thing, if you see them fire 7 times in quick succession, then you can know for certain that their ready rack is empty. It takes a little while to reload a single shell, so you will have plenty of time to push them and blast them
On most you can shoot the weak spot on the side of the turret face with 25mm less armor.
My friends and I are already getting prepared to play 2.7 105mm Sherman's and M8 Scott's to counter these.
Bigger counter to swedish beast is 75/34 M43 since it have sligthly angled 100mm frontal armor, so theres pretty much no chance to pen you frontaly.

This was the first ground vehicle under Sweden before the tech tree was made. My first game with it, was doing so well in a hull down position. It has good depression so being able to side swipe and duck behind the burm to reposition was splendid. But.... CAS is your number 1 threat and will hunt you down like you killed there dog.
CAS is the number 1 threat for most any open top, and to be fair, this thing killed their dog, cat, spouse, kids, and parents before they could turn around. It has it coming lol

I played with my 3.3 rated friend yesterday and that vehicle single handedly made those matches more difficult than the 5.7 matches im used to
Solid shot has been Nurfed down again but I’ve had my first 2 Nukes with the Concept 3 mainly off kills alone, sit in a slope, range find and hit tiger 2 weak spot (ammo rack)
I believe the APHE round for the SAV is actually supposed to be a SAP round that Gaijin's modelled incorrectly. The 120mm on the SAV is basically a naval artillery gun mounted on a ground vehicle for direct and indirect-fire support.
Hpgr stands for “Halvpansargranat” which effectively means; “Semi-anti-armour high-explosive shell” or “Semi-armour-piercing high explosive projectile”
It should also be noted that the “high-explosive” in this context doesn’t mean it is like a classic HE-shell, but just that it contains high explosive filler. This is ehat differentiate “granat” (high-explosive filled shell) and “projektil” (literally means; “projectile”, and implies that it is solid shot)
Especially considering the Swedish equivalent of HE is “Sgr” meaning “Spränggranat” or ”Explosive… high explosive shell”. Yeah it’s confusing, I know.

I often take this tank out in toptier battles, its so fun against mbt sides.
Don't have any prem tanks so obviously I've not played this tank, but I have played its little brother with the exact same style and build just smaller gun and yeah that things fun as all hell.
No armor, machine gun happy killable but man does it move well and get around points nicely to place shots into easy penned sides and rears.
Plus....still haven't played again in well over a year.

Like the Breda 501 this will eventually be bumped up but until then it will dominate. Inexperienced players do well just because of the reload speed and round. Great video!
Random Swedish fact: For some reason our military really likes to note when shells are tracers, which is why the designations for ammunition often look weird. The "sl" in the beginning of the ammunition type stands for "spårljus" or "tracer". Why, I have no idea, since virtually all tank shells in use are tracers and so the designation seems pretty pointless. But now you know how to identify a tracer round on a Swedish vehicle!
This inspired me used it on 8.7 managed to get 8 kills in one sav xDD

Hey Bawz! More Sweden please and here's a challenge idea! CV90120 - light tank with an over 600mm pen dart AND a center positioned commander sight, just above the cannon. Try to play and wreck with just using the commander sight! Kickass zoom too on it.
This thing should be at least 5.3. And it's at 3.7 just because it's a premium tank
There's no BR where it would be balanced, because it's still 95mm APHE with an open top and THE fastest main caliber fire rate of any vehicle that isn't an SPAA or an IFV. It's limiting factor is the penetration values.

@doknezdoknez1678 I hate that Sweden has 4 tank destroyers around 4.0 too. But you should consider that 95mm of pen isn't enough to get through the turret of a KV-85 unless it is flat on, and even the side will have trouble if it's a bit angled.
I can see it going up to 4.0. But it's still an open top casemate, so unless you know what you're doing, most players are gonna get slaughtered (that's why the ikv 103 dropped from 5.3 to 4.0, it was too easy to MG and people didn't play it right)
@@volteer1332 well you aren't supposed to fight thing head on in the sav. That's where the speed and reaload comes in. You are supposed to ambush multiple players from the side. But in 3.7 you can pen anything frontally with this mf that's why it's not ballanced
@doknezdoknez1678 as a destroyer, you should be able to front-pen things that are the same BR as you (assuming you don't just shoot the strongest points), and at least disable it. If a casemate has to ambush something at the same rank from the side to even get through, then that encourages passive camping behavior or really slimy spawn flanks. (IE, why the puma was bumped up from 2.7 to 3.3, and the R3 has gone from 3.7 all the way to 5.0).

i have seen a lot of OP vehicles in war thunder , i used to think the VIDAR was the most OP vehicle in warthunder just for having a fast reload for a 155 mm cannon with a laser range finder , and it has a lot of good ammunition types like those who explode near the target , making it good for both ground and close anti air , but this , this must top it bro that's a whole other type of overpowerness

I will be honest on paper it's great, and in the hands of someone skilled, it is, but for the average player its kinda ass due to its mobility and armour being weaker than wet toilet paper. This leads it into a different playstyle of like a weird mix of almost td camping, but you also want to be close enough to spam.
I am saying this as a swed main who has witnessed many a teammate with it just get dunked on by litterally everything
