My mam has cancer and didn't go out. You have no idea how much these films have made a difference during lockdown ♡

Following along on Googlemaps to see where you're wandering off to today
Googled Marsden Grotto and came up with a café just further along the Coast road from where you turned at the roundabout at Redwell Lane. Looks to have a nice view of Marsden Bay. I'm guessing the big chunk of rock out in the bay is the Marsden Rock you mentioned. Google photos look as if part of the rock is now gone. Lizard Lane is a road off the other roundabout. Now if you’d gone further down the Coast road there’s something called Lime Kilns, marked as an Historical Landmark. Photos off Googlemap shows the ruins of a building and two large round red brick buildings (the kilns?). The whole area looks to be fenced off but could be interesting to walk past as there's a foot path along the fencing. It’s next to the Marsden Quarry and just up the road from the National Trust Souter Lighthouse and The Leas. There’s a parking area there for the lighthouse so people could park there for a walk back up the road to the Kilns area. There’s also Lizard Point showing on Googlmaps. Seems to be a lookout point for interesting rock formations at low tide. Also, the Whitburn Golf Club is across from the quarry.

Wow some great info there. I've just done a bit of research on the rock and the Grotto. The Grotto used to be a pub and is said to be haunted by John the Jibber who was murdered for informing HM Customs about some smuggling. The landlords would leave a tankard of beer for him at night and by the morning it was gone.
They stopped doing it in 1999 when a local DJ drank from the tankard and all sorts of ghostly happenings went on!
The rock itself had a small archway which partly collapsed in 1911. And in 1996 it collapsed completely leaving a large rock and a pillar. The pillar was demolished a year later as it was declared unsafe.

Been there once. A foggy summer night. Would love to go back. Like the place. Some cool stone shapes there.
