Wonderful list of books! I’ve read a few and have others on my TBR. One of my top ten books of all times is Lonesome Dove. I am not a Western-loving gal but this book just captured (and in some cases broke) my heart. The characters are so well defined and the story moves along well, especially for such a large novel I really enjoy your posts! Thank you!
I love listening to you talk, your voice is so soothing! Educated is definitely one of my favourites this year, so incredible and I'm looking forward to reading some of these others!
Wow! You have had some great reads this year! I also love The Dublin Murder Squad series. The Likeness is my favorite so far and I’m also ready to read Broken Harbor. My father was a western reader as well. He read Louis L’amour all the time. However, when he died in 1992, he was actually reading Lonesome Dove. I have that same copy as you have and you have encouraged me to pick it up. I also loved On Writing by King. I read it a few years ago and he actually made me think that I could write if I wanted to. I’m not a writer either, but he was so straight forward and open about the process. Thanks so much for sharing this video! I will definitely be trying a few of these!
Great hearing you talking about these books, Helene! You've had a fab reading year. 🎉📚 Lonesome Dove isn't the sort of novel I'd think to pick up since I'm not really into Westerns but you made it sound really appealing. I'm reading Educated now and it's terrifying reading what she went through. I still need to get to Idaho!
See now I heard it wasn’t exactly accurate since her brothers and sisters all disagreed with her book and said it didn’t happen the way she portrayed it. Who knows though.
Eric, LD is a fantastic read and I think you would LOVE it. It's a book to make you laugh and cry and I am not a western fan either but I am so glad I read it!
Hey Helene :) just wanted to say thank you for all your wonderful videos this year! Every time you upload I can't wait to get home from work, have a cup of tea and watch your video. Since you're Scandinavian it would also be really interesting to learn more about Scandinavian literature (or also TV shows). Hope that you had a wonderful year and wish you all the best for 2019, may all your dreams come true ✨ love from Austria
I just love the Diary of a Bookseller too. I find myself thinking about this book quite often. I can't wait to reread it soon! I can't wait to read the Heart's Invisible Furies. I'm definitely going to pick it up soon after hearing you gush about it :)
Amazing list, Helene!! I remember loving Idaho last year and it has definitely stayed with me. You have made me very excited to read The Diary of a Bookseller and the Dublin Murder Squad series, and of course I need to pick that John Boyne novel soon!
Thank you for introducing me to so many books this year, Helene, through your wonderful channel. Currently curling up with They Were Counted, a glass of wine and a fire, 🎅😃 and John Boyne is high on my tbr. So enjoy seeing your take on the literary world, and the snapshots of life through your vlogs. Happy Holidays! ☕🍹🌲
Hello Helene, just found your BT channel and I love it ! I've read Lonesome Dove five years ago and couldn't put it down ! Love that story and it is the book that brought me back to reading - last year I read the Clay Girl and was also very moved by the story, and last month I read Educated and loved it I will watch your other videos because our taste are pretty similar. Have a nice holiday ! Bonnes fêtes (I'm French)
I want to read all of these books! I love psychological thrillers and crime in general, but my tastes are expanding a lot due to UA-cam! Happy reading and a very Happy New Year to you too 😽
I've just found your channel and it's amazing! We have quite similar taste in books so I think I'm gonna stick with you forever:) I'm reading Heart's invicible furies now and enjoying it immensely. Happy holidays!
The Diary of a Bookseller is also on my list of best books I read this year. I am so enthusiastic about it that I keep giving it to people as a present.
Oh Helene, I'm so glad you loved Lonesome Dove! I haven't read many westerns either, but I read and LOVED Lonesome Dove years ago. It's such an amazing, epic tale of friendship. There's a miniseries out there of the book starring Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones that I'd love to watch, although getting my hands on it has proved a little hard. Maybe I just need to reread the book! I love the cover of The Diary of a Bookseller so much I just went and tried to find it on book depository but they're not selling the hardcover anymore! Sad! The paperback doesn't look as pretty. But, it really doesn't matter, the book sounds great! Wonderful list, Helene. Your taste continues to be impeccable and there are so many on here that I wanted to get to this year and failed.
Life Between Words , I’m not sure where you are located, but occasionally it will be on some of the streaming channels. I’m sure it’s also available thru Amazon Video. Not many movies can compete with the novel, but this miniseries was one of the best!
The Diary of A Bookseller is going to be my next audiobook; I haven’t heard ANYTHING about it, so I’m very happy it is in your top books! I loved Educated as well.
Because of your recommendation I am going to read Lonesome Dove next year! Have a Merry Christmas Helene, and a wonderful new year filled with wonderful books, and more videos from you, because we all love them!!!
Thanks for another awesome video recapping some great books of 2018! That's a beautiful turtleneck sweater you're wearing, btw. Merry Christmas Eve Eve!
I just LOVED The Heart's Invisible Furies this year too. I have not seen it talked about much - particularly given how funny and dark it is. I agree with you, it might have been my overall favorite of 2018 - toss up between it and All The Light We Cannot See ...
I think the John Boyne book is probably my favourite too. It should have won the Man Booker prize! Hope you have a lovely Christmas Helene and get loads of fabulous books. Meow to Zeus. X
I have loved your videos this year. You are my favourite booktuber. Have a fantastic Christmas with lots of chocolates and cakes. Take it easy and keep cosy.
Tana French is wonderful-haven't read them all. I also really liked The Woman in The Window. Would be interested in reading In Order to Live and The Diary of a Bookseller, The Good Daughter and so many others you've spoken about. Thanks for sharing this year. Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to you.
Rangers were like federal sheriffs. They were in Texas mainly during the Mexican war. Cowboys are just people who work with horses or on ranches, sometimes with cattle. You should watch the movies they made, soooooo good!
Yeah yeah oh yeah!!!!! 🎈🎉🎁💃💃💃. Lonesome Dove made your favorites list??? I was excited when you read it, but I didn’t know you liked it THAT much. Oh and The Dublin Murder Squad series? This series along with Lonesome Dove remain on top of my top favorites of my entire life(and I’m in my 40’s....and I’ve read hundreds and hundreds of books)Lonesome Dove is, to me, nearly the perfect book. Helene, this solidifies the fact that you and I are kindred spirits.
Also, you talked me into reading The Clay Girl as well as Idaho. I’m reading Idaho right now and Clay Girl is still unread. The Mermaid one is still iffy for me, but I still think I want to read it. The Heart’s Invisible Furies is ANOTHER one you inspired me to pick up but it still remains unread. I need to remedy this! This is a video from you I WAIT ALL year for! Thank you!
Most favorite books of the year: My Sister's Keeper, In Order to Live, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Secret History, Rebecca, My Cousin Rachael, The Great Alone, The Immortalist, Water for Elephants, The Goldfinch, My Absolute Darling, Ken Follett - The Pillars of the Earth Series and Idaho. Interesting to note all are female writers except Ken Follett and Gabriel Tallent and Alexandre Dumas.
*its great to see a book channel were someone buys a book and then shock horror....actually reads it. too many booktubers just collecting shelves full of books just to show off and not read them*
P L E A S E one of these days I'll tug my own hair out at how often I see people talk about those popular 'north korea' books as though they're not 90% fiction and the authors weren't paid to lie
Where do you buy your books? I can't find these with the same covers you have. Great reviews!! I definitely will be getting 2 or 3 of the ones you discussed.
I loved The Hearts Invisible Furies, I have more John Boyne on my reading list for next year. Just a correction though, it's about being gay in Ireland, not England.
I read the diary of a bookseller and I swear to God I hated it. Not funny, not cozy, not witty... Nothing, it was just so boring and slow, my worst book of 2018. Don't read it, don't waste your time and money.
Wonderful list of books! I’ve read a few and have others on my TBR. One of my top ten books of all times is Lonesome Dove. I'm reading Educated now and it's terrifying reading what she went through.

I felt the same way but I loved it. It had me laughing within the first twenty pages.
See now I heard it wasn’t exactly accurate since her brothers and sisters all disagreed with her book and said it didn’t happen the way she portrayed it. Who knows though.

I've actually considered rereading "The Diary of a Bookseller" soon as well - and yes, please do read "The Heart's Invisible Furies" very soon :)

Great list. The author said that he's writing a sequel to The Diary of a Bookseller. I can't wait.

This was a great group of books, Thankyou! I’ve read quite a few of them but I still haven’t read any Karin Slaughter !
The Diary of A Bookseller is going to be my next audiobook; I haven’t heard ANYTHING about it, so I’m very happy it is in your top books!

Thank you for your recommendation. I’m now ordering the last book. 📖❤️
Thanks for another awesome video recapping some great books of 2018! That's a beautiful turtleneck sweater you're wearing, btw. Merry Christmas Eve Eve!
Great selection! I really enjoyed Idaho, and I've got The Heart's Invisible Furies on my TBR for this year
I just LOVED The Heart's Invisible Furies this year too. I have not seen it talked about much - particularly given how funny and dark it is. I agree with you, it might have been my overall favorite of 2018 - toss up between it and All The Light We Cannot See ...
You are one of my favourite booktubers 😍😍 and deserve way more subs!
I think the John Boyne book is probably my favourite too. It should have won the Man Booker prize! Hope you have a lovely Christmas Helene and get loads of fabulous books. Meow to Zeus. X
Meow back from Zeus, and a lovely Christmas to you, too ;)
I read some of the books you mentioned in 2018 and I'm so glad we have books in common.
I have loved your videos this year. You are my favourite booktuber. Have a fantastic Christmas with lots of chocolates and cakes. Take it easy and keep cosy.
Lots of chocolates and cakes sounds just about right! Merry Christmas to you, too :)
I also read The Clay Girl this year and it also definitely made my best books of the year list!
I read Lonesome Dove this year too. It's so well done!
I Loved "Lonesome Dove"!!
There is a movie of it as well you would enjoy. Really good. Cheers!!
I enjoyed In The Woods... didnt know there were more. Thank you!
Thank you for your honest critiques instead of gushing about mediocre books. Very refreshing.
Came across your channel and I instantly loved you lol I had to subscribe, your opinions are very articulate and you get me interested . (:
I wish you could make a video everyday .
Rangers were like federal sheriffs. They were in Texas mainly during the Mexican war. Cowboys are just people who work with horses or on ranches, sometimes with cattle. You should watch the movies they made, soooooo good!
I am reading The Woman in the Window right now. So far I like it.

loved this! looks like an amazing list ❤
I have a book by Tana French, going to read it in January!
The woman in the window is on my TBR.
_Lonesome Dove_ is amazing. Maybe the only book that is a Western and an Anti-Western at the same time!
Idaho was wonderful 💜
Most favorite books of the year: My Sister's Keeper, In Order to Live, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Secret History, Rebecca, My Cousin Rachael, The Great Alone, The Immortalist, Water for Elephants, The Goldfinch, My Absolute Darling, Ken Follett - The Pillars of the Earth Series and Idaho. Wow, that's an impressive list - I see a lot of personal favourites :)
Hm. I'm struggling through the count of Monte Cristo and was debating whether to push through. I guess I'll keep going 😜😜
*its great to see a book channel were someone buys a book and then shock horror....actually reads it. too many booktubers just collecting shelves full of books just to show off and not read them*

Where do you buy your books?
I can't find these with the same covers you have. Great reviews!! I definitely will be getting 2 or 3 of the ones you discussed.
I buy most of my books on bookdepository.com (that also has free shipping). I hope you'll manage to find them there :)
Lonesome Dove is amazing.
I loved The Hearts Invisible Furies, I have more John Boyne on my reading list for next year.
Just a correction though, it's about being gay in Ireland, not England.
Yup, I def got the countries wrong! Thanks :)
your accent is soooo cute!!!
Thanks, but no classics?
Please recommend me your favourite family saga...
I have no idea what that would be?? :-D
I love your videa ...💗
I have just discovered your channel and I am suscripted already. Love it
Whoa! You really look like the lead actress of the 50 shades of gray movie thing. It's crazy😳😶
I read the diary of a bookseller and I swear to God I hated it. Not funny, not cozy, not witty... Nothing, it was just so boring and slow, my worst book of 2018. Don't read it, don't waste your time and money.
You're too kind.
Your accent is very difficult to catch
What do you mean?
