I am pretty excited about cooking with this rig! So far so good and leave a comment below if you are a Pit Boss owner! Thanks for watching and joining the Dead Broke BBQ family!!
Ya unfortunately the heat deflector doesn’t catch all off it and drain it to the bucket. One thing I do is have mine slanted half bubble towards the grease bucket and that seemed to help some. Give that a try and let me know if it helped reduce the amount of grease in the bottom of the pit. Thanks for commenting!

Just purchased the new Pit Boss Sportsman 820. Your video helped me prime and burn off better than the instruction provided by Pit Boss's channel. Thanks for the tip on a slow burn to hopefully help cure the paint better! This is my first smoker!
Awesome Josh!!! My buddy has the 820 and on his the hotter side is on the left so he does everything 180° different than the way I cook because the 1100 hotter area is on the right side. Mine has held the paint but it does have a little discoloration now on the bottom right next to the firepot area but nothing really noticeable!!! Good luck and take your time and with a little practice you will be crushing the protein!!! Have a great week and welcome to the Dead Broke BBQ family!!!
Awesome overview of the Pit Boss Ricer! I've never cooked on one but man it is tempting. Can't wait to see your first cook on it. Big thanks for the shout-out brother! Hope you and the little dudes have a great week!
You bet Charley! I honestly never really thought I would buy a pellet grill until I was in Lowe’s and saw this one. Like I say I have cooked on a couple of them. One buddy has a Rec Tec and the other has a Traeger and I have always turned out some good product on them but my next rig was supposed to be a stick burner. Oh well back to saving my change again because this was a great deal at $600 and I couldn’t so no! Plus seems to be built pretty solid for the most part. A quick chicken video is coming soon on the Pit Boss! Thanks for watching bro and hope a few of the Dead Broke BBQ Family members come over and give you a visit!!
LMAO at the bird. Background noises are the worst when filming. I tend to be so focus when shooting I don't even know there were noises until I go to edit then there is nothing I can do. Great video. I'm glad you talked about the difference in heat from one side to another. That's important, and in my mind a good thing. It's nice to have the ability to speed something up or slow it down by moving its location in the cooker!
Ya if my Browning was close by we would have had oil from a song bird to help season the Pit Boss grates up some!! Ha ha ya I agree I like to have a hotter area so if you are doing different sizes of meat you can adjust to get them to finish up all around the same time. As you already know I cooked 3 briskets on it and the temp variations helped because they were all different sizes in weight and finished with in a half hour of each other so worked out perfect! Plus dang surprised how good they all turned out. Thanks for watching Mike!!
Ricer, That Pitt Boss looks amazing! Congratulations on your new purchase. I was out of town so I am trying to catch up on all your videos. Love to watch you and learn a lot every time! Thanks
Well thank you William and yes it is a fantastic cooker! I think you told me before that you struggle a little with grilling bbq. Well if you are ever in the market this rig is a fantastic option!! It really is a set it and forget it smoker!!
Great video. I just subscribed. Thanks for the burn off tips. I used to paint cars too and you reminded me of the best way to cure paint SLOW crawl. I purchased my pit boss today and did the same thing. Look forward to watching more of your stuff.
Awesome thanks for joining the Dead Broke BBQ Family bro! I will be having more videos coming soon. Busy coaching youth football right now but soon I will have some more cooks posted!
I used this method over a year ago and it worked perfectly. I haven't had any paint chips. I purchased the sportsman 820 with no paint issues unlike my friend that didn't follow this burn off process.
After the burn off comes the seasoning. A lot of people swear by Pam spray or something like that. Over 50 years of smoking has shown me that aerosol cans have propellants that will leave a bad residue on the inside. I recommend picking up a quart of grease/fat (not car grease!) from the grocery and literally paint it on with a paint brush. That will do a great job and leave no residue. Just a thought.
That is how I did it back in the 80's with my dad but I have had good luck with pam if you bake it in. Thanks for the information!!! I appreciate you watching!!!
Pork chop in every bottle. Love it. I'm originally from Ohio and used that phrase all the time. I moved to Atlanta 20 years ago. No one says that down here. I literally cracked up hearing you say it. Great video, new subscriber!
Hahah ya it might be a northern saying but around here in Wisconsin we joke about that all the time! Thanks for joining the Dead Broke BBQ family and stay safe!! Thanks for watching!
Got a new PB 1100 pro, did the burn off just like your video, and cooked some chicken w/ chicken butt for my first cook. My son & I eat them all the time. It turned out great & the paint did fine. Ready to try some of your recipes!
I'm going to have to disagree with putting foil on the plate. Being a sheet metal man I always worry about dissimilar metals. I could be wrong in the long run but aluminum against steel is usually not a good idea. It starts off corrosion because of different metals being in contact. I'm not sure how heat will change that.
Marty you are correct and at first I ran foil on the deflector all the time but as I used the 1100 I started to not foil it and dealt with just a little more clean up. Now I will say that sometimes on low n slow cooks I put foil over the vents on the heat deflector because that helped to keep some of the heat from hitting directly on the meat. The more you use the 1100 the more those vents warp and don't really keep tight. I wish there was a solid cover you could put over the top of the deflector when you are only smoking something. Thanks for watching and be safe!
Very well explained video... I have found that in the cold especially that the top hat/chimney tipper will need to be turned down to help keep the temps up I have mine spun down and then backed off just a bit.
wow buddy!! really appreciate the shout out!! you are doing a excellent job and a great touch to mention a few channels at the end!!! keep it up bro!! your on fire!!
Thanks John!! Ya broke it in this weekend! First did a split chicken, then 50lbs of brisket and 6 racks of St Louis ribs. Very happy with it so far! Thanks for watching brother!
I have this same model and it rocks! I wondered about foiling the flame broiler plate or not. The manual says not to do so and I emailed Pit Boss about it as well (under "Care and Maintenance", section 3, page 19). They say don't foil the flame broiler plate. Just do a good clean cycle at 450°F to make any junk that dripped down onto it crunchy and carbonized. Makes it easy to scrape/vacuum off (once cooled off) for the next time you cook. Don't forget to empty the grease bucket!
Thanks Jason! Ya I am pretty happy with the Boss so far and half the price as the same size Traeger. Just made sense to go this route! Thanks for watching brother, I really appreciate it!!!!
just got my PitBoss 1100 setup.. seen a few videos on start up and Burn-in (out) .. you added a few good things others didnt.. its firing up as we speak (well text) .. did it the way you were saying... started low heat.. to high heat ... great "how-to" video.... thank you ...
Ya it seems like it is a pretty nice cooker! I never thought I would buy a pellet smoker but the price was right and I decided to join the pellet crew!! Thanks for watching Johnny and soon I will have a few cooks coming of this rig!
Man I just picked up my 1100 today from Lowe’s as my Father’s Day gift. With the cover and 40 lb pellet bag I’m ready to go! I’m gonna go by your “burn in” procedure here and have saved your video! Thanks for your assistance! Awesome insight! Happy Father’s Day!
Awesome Video! I always love to see your straight forward, easy to follow videos! Unlike most channels I actualy get what's going on! (Maybe that's because I'm a pin head) also love the summary at the end of each video!
HEY MY FRIEND, that was a awesome video, I love your new Pit Boss Pellet smoker | grill you can't beat them because basically you can set it and forget it, but also they put out some pretty good BBQ, I don't think a lot of people know that, also man you should have been a comedian you are to darn funny and you are good at what you do my friend. AWESOME JOB. GOD BLESS YOU.!!!
Thanks Joe!!! I cooked a split chicken, 3 briskets, and 6 racks of ribs on the Pit Boss so far. I am very impressed with what it has produced so far. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it brother!!
Just bought mine last night and got it assembled only to find out the threads on one side of my life handle we're stripped. A quick email to customer service, giving them the purchase and model information, and I've got a new handle on the way. I'm super excited to do my burn off so I can get to cooking!
Awesome Ben!!! Oh the wait-----time to rig up a handle so you can fire it up!!! Enjoy bro, it is a great cooker and you will enjoy it!! Have fun and thanks for watching!!!!
Thank you for the video. Halfway thru my burn off and I couldn’t be more excited to get home from work tomorrow and throw some animal flesh on this badass Pit Boss!
Love “how to’s” a guy can actually understand. Great job Ricer! Got my Pro Series 850 yesterday, gonna burn 🔥 off today, and smoke some ribs Sunday for the Holiday! Will comment again after the Burn off. So far I got 1 observation. Now, I like beer as much as the next guy, (maybe more.) But it seems to me that Pit Boss coulda put an on/off switch on the auger prime if it takes 7-10 minutes to prime the fire pot. J/S. Wish me luck!
Hahahah agree on the switch!! That is why I had my boys hold the button!!! hahaha Hope you crushed your first cook Sunday and thanks for watching and glad i could help!!!
Thanks helped me alot first time using a pellet grill I like how u post the steps then as I'm taking a screen shot you say go head an take a screen shot lol thanks
Hahahah thanks!!! Ya I do that in some videos. Just depends on how much time I spent prepping before I shot the video!! Unfortunately I typically just wing it!! hahaha I appreciate you leaving a comment!!
Hey, first off loved the Bloopers. I watched to the end. Beeeeep !! Looks like you got'er all seasoned and broke in ready for some meat. I heard chickens near by just volunteering to be the first guest. lol Nice walk thru. I looked at that one of the pellet smokers, and the vertical electric today at Lowes. Been seeing more channels with one or the other. Nice little cookers for the price point for sure. Can't wait to see you cook up some good stuff on it. Nice job Jeff. By the way, the other Jeff over at Armadillo Pepper channel has one of these too. R Shack & Culinary Cook have the vertical electric.
Hahaha ya I caught one of those chickens and it found its way on the grates before I shut the Pit Boss down that night! I have a short video coming out soon where I eat that chicken, even ate the last part over the fence!! ( the Butt) !! ha ha Thanks for watching till the end PIF, probably the best part of my videos!! I am very impressed with this rig so far, so open up that wallet of yours and let the moths out so you can go pick yourself up a Pit Boss!! I don't think a guy can go wrong with purchasing this cooker! I have buddy that has the largest vertical they make and he loves it!! I will go check those guys out and see what they are cooking on theirs! Thanks for sharing Phil!!
Hello. First time pellet grill owner here. I bought the 1100 pro series also. I was wanting to know if the steps you took helped with the paint not burning or bubbling. Thanks so much for your help.
Hi Jeff! Yes it seems to have help. Been 6 months and the paint still looks good. It is a little darker right around the firepot area but it still is solid with no cracking or peeling! Hope you have the same luck! Thanks for watching!!
Awesome and I hope you enjoy the Pit Boss! Nice cooker and as time went on I quit putting foil on it all the time but on long low n slow cooks I still did because it just made clean up easier! Thanks for watching and welcome to the Dead Broke BBQ family!! Be safe!!
I just purchased the Pit Boss 1150. During the burn off process I set the temperature to 350. But the temperature reached only 200 after 40 minutes. What am I doing wrong? GREAT VIDEO!
Hmmmmm, sorry I had to back a ways ! You know, research for the show ! I agree, empty the pellets and use the bucket for a night stand or end table ! Dual purpose ! Nice how to video !
Awesome Randy!! My friend Jake has the 820 and we have learned that the left side is hotter on his so just an FYI but it certainly doesn't mean they are all that way!! Have fun and enjoy the new cooker, you are going to love it!!!!
Just fires up the 1150 pro and did a burn Burn baby burn Its a nice grill and huge Had not really realized the size verses the 820 i saw at store Very please Easy and was able to manipulate temps without to much time or effort I will dig into the slow smoking aspect Probes and more Just an fyi. Have an expensive weber which i love and this is at least as good for quality!!
Congratulations Mathew!!! Glad you are enjoying the 1150!! I am getting the 1600 this week so you will see me back on the Boss again and I am very excited about it!! The big difference between the 1100 & the 1150 is the 1150 is a PID controlled pit which mean more consistent temps!! Have fun dude and let me know how your cooks go!!!!! Thanks for watching!!!!
Awesome Don!! Have fun and this is a really good cooker! Pellets are very easy to run as long as you clean them up before your next cook! Good luck man and I have several cooks on this rig so you got a lot of fun a head of you!! Thanks for watching and be safe!
Nope only if you dump and burn out all the pellets. This is just for the first time you run it. I clean it after every long cook and after 2 short quick cooks. Simple pull out the heat deflector shop vac it out and scape up some grease. Thanks for watching!
You just want to make sure you see that the fire pot is filling up and also good to see the ignitor work for the first time. This way you know it is going to burn because it can fail and pack up tight with pellets. You just do this on the first time you use it or if you clear the auger. Have a great week and thanks for watching!!
Great video but a little confused my pellets are still really full after the burn off. I am going to be using it again in an hr from the initial burn off, do I have to vacuum it out and go through the priming process again?
Only time you have to use the prime button is if you burn out or run out of the pellets in the auger. I vacuum my pellet grills out after every long cook #bricket or after a couple grilling sessions!! Keep it clean and you have less issues!! As long as you are getting good temps and decent smoky flavor don't worry about the amount of pellets you burn. Some brands run more efficient than others or they might be really fresh pellets also!!! Thanks for watching and have fun!!
That chicken was awesome! Thanks Tony, right now I just wish I had more time to post more videos. Real life should slow down real soon! Like usual thanks for watching bro!!
Yes it did help for mine. Now after a year of using it there is some discoloration on the bottom near the fire pot but it is not pealing off. Thanks for watching and have fun with the 1100, it is a very nice smoker!!!!!
Well I do like the OK Joe a little more because of the sear zone and the the extra rack and accessories! But both are good entry level pellet grills! Thanks for watching!!
Yes as long as there is not a lot of humidity you should be fine. Just do not leave them in for a long period of time though. I typically dump them out if I do not plan to use it for longer than a week. Thanks for watching!!
Paint is fine but there is a slight discoloration and the bottom around the fire pot but after the way mine have been used I think it worked out fine!! Again it certainly didn't hurt by ramping it up slowly for sure!! Have fun with yours and I hope you get the same success!! Have a great week bro!
I have the pit boss 820 ... mine doesn’t have that rod connector that you removed at 2:27 🤷🏻♂️ I just assembled it today and was about to do the burn-off and noticed it while watching this video ... is mine supposed to have that and if, so what can I do about getting one since it wasn’t in my box ?
No not really needed for a pellet grill this style. But a Yoder YS640 or other 1/4 thick steel types of pellet grills you want to season. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it!!
Got my boss the other day going to use it for the first time for Fourth of July I'm going to do the burn in right now July 3rd 5 Pacific time now do I need to put in the pallets to the very top are how much do I put in there to do the very first first initial turn on
I leave mine in on the Pit Boss but if you live where there is high humidity you certainly want to dump the pellets because they swell up and can cause a auger jam! Hope this helps!! Have a great week!
Great video. I’ve had my 1100 for about 2 months now and I love everything about it! Quick question, when you finish smoking and turn the temperature to off, do you leave the lid open or closed while the fan runs? Thanks!
Congratulations Dustin on your purchase of the 1100, fun cooker for sure!!! I leave mine closed, it helps burn off a little grease and debris! Sometimes after a long low n slow I crank the heat up to burn a little extra off so clean up is easier!! Thanks fo r joining the Dead Broke BBQ family!!! Have a great week!!
No Kenny just if you dump the pellets and clear everything out of the auger. Then yes you have to prime it again. If you live in a very humid area it is best to dump the pellets because in the hopper they can swell up and cause issues! Thanks for watching and have a great week bro!
I didn't Jeremy and if you watch this video I give you a little run down on the Pit Boss after 1 1/2 years. ua-cam.com/video/gh0ZDTDQS9w/v-deo.html thanks for watching!!
Very similar cookers just a few cosmetic changes on the 1100. Both are decent cookers but I think the Austin is a little cheaper! Thanks for watching!!
Only a little discoloration on the bottom near the fire pot but never pealed! So I can't say I did it right right but I can say it worked!!! hahaha Thanks for watching!!
It attaches right to the top sear plate and the handle is located under the right side shelf. Pops on and off really easy on the 1100. Thanks for watching!!
Hey just curious after a year is your paint holding up due to your different burn off method? I JUST got home with my PitBoss Austin XL that I just got and am about to start putting it together and just curious about if it held up differently?
Holding solid bro!! Little discoloration by the fire pot but this cooker has been pushed hard!! Now I did have 1 guy say he ran it exactly the same way and his paint still peeled but that might have been a Monday paint job!?!?! Anyways have fun with the XL!! Great cooker and runs like a champ!
hahah the 1100 was $600 at Lowes. I walked by and then turned around and said why not it is only 1/2 the price of some of the other pellet smokers I looked at and honestly I never thought I would buy one. But I have cooked on a few before and I have always been satisfied with what a pellet grill can put out. I cooked 50 pounds of brisket on it this weekend and I was amazed at the bark and the smoke ring I was able to produce. Plus I got to relax a little during the night when it hit the stall and that was the best part!! ha ha Thanks for watching Eric!!
No I did not. Mine has been great! Now there is some discoloration in that area after a years time but that is kind of expected! Thanks for watching and have fun with your new 820!!
Nope and I am doing a video as we speak about the Pit Boss Vs the Rider DLX. Going to try to answer most of the questions I have had on these 2 brands! Thanks for watching and have fun with the Pit Boss!!
Dead Broke BBQ over in South Dakota. Hope for good weather and lots of ribs, wings, steak and burgers this weekend in the Oklahoma Joe! It’s primes, pre seasoned and ready to rock!
Sure am bro!! Got a big weekend of bbq for sure!! Just hot and sweaty here, Did get a little rain to cool things down some!! Enjoy your 4th and thanks for subscribing!!
Still there but a little faded from the heat by the fire pot. Nothing really noticeable though! I did have a guy contact me a couple days back that had problems and he ran his burn off the same way as I did. My guess that they didn't prime the metal good enough because he set me a picture and that was high on the back side of the cooker. Thanks for stopping in!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ I burned 820 Pro in/off last night, went 15 minutes starting at 250 and went up in 50 degree increments for 15 minutes at a time all the way to 450. Can't see a single imperfection in the paint. Basically followed what you did with a couple extra steps. Great content! Going to follow you now as I start my new hobby of smoking meat. Self proclaimed master on a grill, hopefully I'll get to that point on the smoker!
Awesome Brandon!! Welcome to the dead broke BBQ family!!! More content coming might not all be on the Pit Boss but hey I always try to do something different in every video!! Thanks for replying back on your progress!!
Ya Ron it did. Now after a year of cooking on it there is some discoloration near the fire pot but that is kind of to be expected after as much use this one has had. But no peeling!! Thanks for watching and have a great weekend!!
So after a year of owning this grill if you could go back in time would you get this grill again? What about the heat levels being way off on one side or the other? How bad is it can you do anything about it? I want to buy a pellet grill so bad i can taste it... pun intended lol but scared to pull the trigger for fears of being wrong
All pits have different hot and cold spots Ron. Even your oven has them but I would certainly buy the Pit Boss again. You just get used to rotating your protein to get those even temps. Running any smoker takes practice and a little time to get used to how they work. Up and down temp swings are common. Pull the trigger, people are buying them everyday! Hope this helps!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ It does man thank you I think I am going to order one tonight will let you know how first cook goes. any suggestions as to a first cook?
Ha ha ya it is but you really don’t have to do that unless you burn out all the pellets after a cook. Thanks for watching and have fun with the new Boss!! I should have one coming in the next month or so!! Happy New Years!!
Check your P setting, it might be set too low is the first thing I would check. I always leave mine set to P4 and keep the cooker out of the wind. But wind is not really a factor. Now if it never lit and you never changed your P setting you might need to replace the ignitor. Hope this helps and if it happens again call customer service. Thanks and good luck!!
Well they are both good entry level cookers. I just like the Rider more because of the sear zone and the higher temps you can get with it!! The Pit Boss is a great cooker though!!!
Mine are still ok but they are not as accurate as my MK4 Thermopen but they still give me an idea where I am at for temp. I also only hand wash these and very carefully store them so they do not kink up! Hey thanks for stopping in and leaving a comment Joe!!
Great vid, I like your style and the way you explain everything. I just ordered mine last night, it's on sale for 10% off and I got another 10% when I applied for the Lowe's card. Going to pick it up today and start enjoying it this weekend! Thumbs up and subbed!
Awesome Wesley!!! So far I have really liked this cook. Now like all pellet multitask pellet cookers there are some minor hang ups like that the center of the pit runs a little hotter and that this model doesn't have a 275° setting but other than that I have enjoyed the cooks that I have done on it. Good luck and do chicken on it first!! Makes some great yardbird for sure but make sure you clean off that deflector afterwards because your next cook you might have a small grease fire on it!!
Just curious how this method of burn off had been holding up. You mentioned paint bubbles or deterioration? I’m currently following your method on the Pit Boss I just put together. Also, have you done any whole chickens or turkeys in there?
No pealing or bubbles yet and just last weekend I ran it on high for the first time to sear up a Tri Tip on the sear plate so I think it is holding up pretty good!?!? From what I saw on the internet most guys ran into paint problems fairly quick and I have had this for a couple months now but mainly only done low temp cooks. I have done chicken halves on the Pit Boss but plan to do a beer can chicken soon. But all of the chicken I have done so far has been awesome!! If you do a full bird you might have to rotate it but I am sure it will come out fantastic! I have noticed the probes are not the most accurate but not off by a lot! Keep me posted on how your paint holds up! Thanks for watching bro and commenting!!
Well you should be ok but there still are a few that are having issues with the paint peeling some. Fingers crossed you don't have this issue but FYI it happens to all of them eventually. Thanks for watching and have fun with you new rig!
I am pretty excited about cooking with this rig! So far so good and leave a comment below if you are a Pit Boss owner! Thanks for watching and joining the Dead Broke BBQ family!!
I just bought a Pitboss P2 1000 and love it. The only problem I have is grease getting down in the bottom of the pit.

I figured it out. I'm new to this, but what happened is that I didn't have the grease pan in the correct spot. I got it cleaned out, but I noticed this time after turning it off. Smoke was coming out of the hopper ?
Mark Hejl empty the hopper and prime the auger until all the pellets are clear. Clean out the fire pit and start over.

After the burn off comes the seasoning. A lot of people swear by Pam spray or something like that. Over 50 years of smoking has shown me that aerosol cans have propellants that will leave a bad residue on the inside.
Awesome Joe!!! Great cooker for sure and pretty dang simple to run!! Have fun and I hope you have a great Father’s Day filled with smoke!!
Great advice Dash!! I can most certainly see that helping here in popsicleville!! Thanks for sharing and like always thanks for watching brother!!
wow buddy!! really appreciate the shout out!! you are doing a excellent job and a great touch to mention a few channels at the end!!! keep it up bro!! your on fire!!
You bet Bill! Us BBQ guys need to help each other out when we can! Thanks for joining the Dead Broke BBQ family Bill, I really appreciate it bro!
Great looking pit Ricer .... Can't wait to see what you cook on that bad boy
I foil when I am smoking long cooks. I have had zero problems so far. But short cooks at high heat I just burn it off. Thanks for watching!!
That's a sexy pit boss you goth there my friend. You'll be having lots of fun with that new toy. Another great video brother
Thanks Jason! Ya I am pretty happy with the Boss so far and half the price as the same size Traeger. Just made sense to go this route! Thanks for watching brother, I really appreciate it!!!!

Nice Pit Boss Ricer. Hopefully you get something thrown on that thing quick! Take care Ricer...
Ya it seems like it is a pretty nice cooker! I never thought I would buy a pellet smoker but the price was right and I decided to join the pellet crew!! Thanks for watching Johnny and soon I will have a few cooks coming of this rig!
Congrats on the new Cooker!
Thanks Tom!! Pretty excited about joining the pellet grill crew! So far been pretty happy with what I have cooked on this rig!!
Awesome dude and I am excited for you!! Have fun and I enjoy this cooker a lot!! I hope you have a fantastic Father’s Day!! Thanks for watching!!
Awesome Video! I always love to see your straight forward, easy to follow videos! Unlike most channels I actualy get what's going on! (Maybe that's because I'm a pin head) also love the summary at the end of each video!
Thanks Winnz!! Your really know how to butter me up brother!!!
Dude, just picked up a pit boss 1150 and this vid helped a ton!! Other descriptions were pretty vague. I’m subscribed now!
Awesome Hector!! Enjoy the new cooker brother and thanks for watching!!
Got mine yesterday and did the burn off today thanks helped out alot
Awesome have fun and glad i could help!!
Awesome dude!!! Have fun and I bet you are fired up to get that thing rolling today!!! I appreciate you watching and enjoy the good eats!!
Loving my pitboss just got it last night I appreciate the video man very helpful
Awesome Ben!!! Have for brother and you will love this pit for sure!!
Great Video Ricer.
Thanks Wild I really appreciate you stopping in and watching the video brother!!
Very helpful thnx buddy....just bought the new 850 pro series
Awesome Rudy!! You will love that pit!!! Glad I was able to help and thanks for watching!!
My Rottweiler presses my prime button 🐾
Wow smart dog!!! hahaha Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for watching!!
great video ricer
Thanks Surface! I appreciate you watching!!
Now that was a great video going to pick up my new pitboss Tomorrow to add to my collection of smokers thx for the info
Hmmm that sounds like a bad controller. Call Pit Boss and they will send you a new one! Sorry for the late reply been gone for a while!
Thanks so much ... Beat the heck out of reading 5 chapters !!! **
Hey I am glad I was able to save you some time! Thanks for watching and have fun smoking up some meat!!
Hmmmmm, sorry I had to back a ways ! You know, research for the show ! I agree, empty the pellets and use the bucket for a night stand or end table ! Dual purpose ! Nice how to video !
Haha glad you enjoyed it bro! See you soon!!
Great Video!!!
Thank you Kuga! I appreciate you watching brother!
Just got a pit boss 820, at Lowes for $449.00, which included free assembly and delivery.
Awesome Randy!! My friend Jake has the 820 and we have learned that the left side is hotter on his so just an FYI but it certainly doesn't mean they are all that way!! Have fun and enjoy the new cooker, you are going to love it!!!!
Just fires up the 1150 pro and did a burn
Burn baby burn
Its a nice grill and huge
Had not really realized the size verses the 820 i saw at store
Very please
Easy and was able to manipulate temps without to much time or effort
I will dig into the slow smoking aspect
Probes and more
Just an fyi.
Great tutorial! I don't really think you need to use a level to pitch the grill. The grease trap is already pitched for runoff.
YA it is but I have a slop in that spot so I always make sure it is leaning right!! Thanks for watching!!!
new to the pellet way, mine just arrived this morning. going to follow your advice here shortly LoL Nice Video
Awesome Don!! Have fun and this is a really good cooker! Pellets are very easy to run as long as you clean them up before your next cook! Good luck man and I have several cooks on this rig so you got a lot of fun a head of you!! Thanks for watching and be safe!
Should you leave the grates closed on a pit boss grill during first time burn off
Yep keep it closed. You are just burning it in and seasoning it. Thanks for watching Jackie and have fun!!!!
Do u have to repeat the process of holding the "prime" button. Everytime you cook? Or is it just used to get the pellets going through the ogre?
Just once unless you run out of pellets in the hopper! Thanks for watching!
Nice, just grabbed this thing
Have fun and it is a pretty easy cooker to run! Have a great 4th!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ augers DOA!
So before evry cook you have to do the prime thing again for 10min or so? And how often do u clean it? Do you clean the heat shield as well?
Nope only if you dump and burn out all the pellets. This is just for the first time you run it. I clean it after every long cook and after 2 short quick cooks. Simple pull out the heat deflector shop vac it out and scape up some grease. Thanks for watching!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ thnx for replying so fast....time to smoke some dino ribs!
hahaha well you caught me right as I opened up the comments!! ha ha Awesome!! I got plenty of vids on what I call beefers!!! Enjoy your cook!
Why do you need to remove the grate and heat deflector before powering on the grill since you put them right back in after the grill is primed?
@@DeadBrokeBBQ thank you!
Looks Amazing! How'd It Taste.U Have Natural Act To Entertain Ricer!
That chicken was awesome! Thanks Tony, right now I just wish I had more time to post more videos. Real life should slow down real soon! Like usual thanks for watching bro!!
Heading out to pick up my PB 1100 this Friday. Did the slow heat up burn off work to preserve the paint or not so much?
Yes it did help for mine. Now after a year of using it there is some discoloration on the bottom near the fire pot but it is not pealing off. Thanks for watching and have fun with the 1100, it is a very nice smoker!!!!!
So, do you prefer the Pit Boss or the Oklahoma Joe? Pricing is not that different. I like how both have the sear feature for burgers or steaks.
Well I do like the OK Joe a little more because of the sear zone and the the extra rack and accessories! But both are good entry level pellet grills! Thanks for watching!!
At what point do you use the PAM in the the burn off ?
Anytime will work. Spray it before or during, both ways work fine.
Can I leave the pellets in the hopper for the next use
Yes as long as there is not a lot of humidity you should be fine. Just do not leave them in for a long period of time though. I typically dump them out if I do not plan to use it for longer than a week. Thanks for watching!!
Do you have to prime every time you use it?
Nope only for the first start up and if you would run out of pellets you can run the prime button to quicken it up some! Thanks for watching!
So 1 year later how is the paint?? do you feel your method for burn off was beneficial? just picked up 1 today
Paint is fine but there is a slight discoloration and the bottom around the fire pot but after the way mine have been used I think it worked out fine!! Again it certainly didn't hurt by ramping it up slowly for sure!! Have fun with yours and I hope you get the same success!! Have a great week bro!
Thanks for the video. Glad to see you drinking some CORONAS 🍺🍺🍺
Oh ya I enjoy a cold Corona with a couple slices of lime for sure!! Thanks for watching!!
I have the pit boss 820 ... mine doesn’t have that rod connector that you removed at 2:27 🤷🏻♂️
I just assembled it today and was about to do the burn-off and noticed it while watching this video ... is mine supposed to have that and if, so what can I do about getting one since it wasn’t in my box ?
No the 820 does not have the sear handle. Thanks for watching and hope you are having fun with that cooker!!
Great video. Did you do anything to season it after the burn off?
No not really needed for a pellet grill this style. But a Yoder YS640 or other 1/4 thick steel types of pellet grills you want to season. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it!!
Got my boss the other day going to use it for the first time for Fourth of July I'm going to do the burn in right now July 3rd 5 Pacific time now do I need to put in the pallets to the very top are how much do I put in there to do the very first first initial turn on
Awesome and soon you will be wowing the neighbors with that bbq smell!! Have fun and enjoy your 4th!!
great video ty
You're welcome!! Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching!!
Lovely accent and nice grill
Great video 👍
Thanks for watching!! Have a great day!!
Weber just got it the pellet grill game
It is easy but you still got to make sure you have fun cooking! Thanks for watching bro!
Nice video just one question do I leave pellets in the hopper or do I take them out after every cook. Also have a cover and will be under patio thanks
River, stupid question I’m knew to pellet grills. Do you have to “prime” it every time you use it?
No Kenny just if you dump the pellets and clear everything out of the auger. Then yes you have to prime it again. If you live in a very humid area it is best to dump the pellets because in the hopper they can swell up and cause issues! Thanks for watching and have a great week bro!
So did your paint peel?
I didn't Jeremy and if you watch this video I give you a little run down on the Pit Boss after 1 1/2 years. ua-cam.com/video/gh0ZDTDQS9w/v-deo.html thanks for watching!!
How is this in comparison to the Austin XL??
Very similar cookers just a few cosmetic changes on the 1100. Both are decent cookers but I think the Austin is a little cheaper! Thanks for watching!!
How is your paint cure after slowly raising the temp during the burn off?
Only a little discoloration on the bottom near the fire pot but never pealed! So I can't say I did it right right but I can say it worked!!! hahaha Thanks for watching!!
Where is the rod attached to move the plate back and forth? My 820 doesn't have that.
It attaches right to the top sear plate and the handle is located under the right side shelf. Pops on and off really easy on the 1100. Thanks for watching!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ thanks for the quick response! It'd definitely be great if the 820 had that!
Well you caught me as I was finishing up other comments and glad I could answer you that fast! hahaha Yes it is a nice feature. Thanks for watching!
Good video
Thanks for watching!!!
Hy cow a BBQ channel from the best state in the USA. Automatic sup.
Dang right Luke!! Welcome to the Dead Broke BBQ Family brother!!! Thank for watching, I really appreciate it!!
I'm sure you've seen me on the pit boss owners group Facebook page. Pumping out high quality bbq every Sunday haha
Awesome dude!!! Keep crushing the product and I am sure I have seen you over there before!!!
What pellets did you use in the burn off, as I just picked mine up yesterday?
I used a brand called CookinPellets but you can use any for that process. Thanks for watching and have fun!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ Thanks for responding. Do you use Pit Boss Pellets?
Today is Day 1. Excited to smoke today
Awesome Glen!! You got this bro!! Have a fantastic week!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ yup! Without a doubt it was good! Trying my hand with steaks this weekend!
Glen Farrow awesome bro!!
What’s the price on the pro? Looks like a nice pit....for a pellet smoker 😂
hahah the 1100 was $600 at Lowes.
I do like the idea of actually going to sleep...nice job on the video!
Eric’s BBQ And MORE! Thanks man!
I got my Pitboss P2 1000 a 40 lb bag of pellets and shipped to my house for around $550 from TSC.
You might want to check out Wal Mart or TSC online
Just got the 820 yesterday. Did you get paint peel doing the burn off that way?
No I did not. Mine has been great! Now there is some discoloration in that area after a years time but that is kind of expected! Thanks for watching and have fun with your new 820!!
What gauge extension cord do you use not to blow a circuit?
I am using a 12 gauge on a 20amp breaker!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ Thanks
@@RichieColemanSr you're welcome!
What gauge extension cord do you recommend? Just got my 700 classic today!
12-14 gauge around 50ft long is a good choice!! Hope this help!! Thanks for watching!!
Dead Broke BBQ thank you so much! Love the videos, just subscribed!! 👍🏼
Thank you and welcome to the Dead Broke BBQ family!! I really appreciate it!!
Did your paint peel?
Nope and I am doing a video as we speak about the Pit Boss Vs the Rider DLX. Going to try to answer most of the questions I have had on these 2 brands! Thanks for watching and have fun with the Pit Boss!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ Thank you. Great videos... keep up the good work.
my pit boss burned the paint off the lid, and barrel :( switched over to the new Joe 900 this summer!
Dang that stinks Darren!!! Well I hope you have better luck with the OK Joe!!! Have a great week!!
10 months later, how has the paint held up?
So, did your paint cure properly?
Awesome dude!! Do the burn off and I always say do chicken first---cheap and easy!!! Good luck and let me know how it goes!!
This video is just in time Tony I have to replace the rod as well
Thanks for watching!!
I just got a pit boss... I'm shocked they don't have an "enable fast auger mode"... seemed to take forever.. I watched that auger turn... wow its slow
Ha ha ya it is but you really don’t have to do that unless you burn out all the pellets after a cook. Thanks for watching and have fun with the new Boss!! I should have one coming in the next month or so!! Happy New Years!!
My pellets started overflowing my fire pit and put the fire out. Any suggestions?
Check your P setting, it might be set too low is the first thing I would check. I always leave mine set to P4 and keep the cooker out of the wind. But wind is not really a factor. Now if it never lit and you never changed your P setting you might need to replace the ignitor. Hope this helps and if it happens again call customer service. Thanks and good luck!!
Which do you prefer this or the Oklahoma Joe's DLX?
Well they are both good entry level cookers. I just like the Rider more because of the sear zone and the higher temps you can get with it!! The Pit Boss is a great cooker though!!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ Thanks for the help!!!
You bet Dan and good luck! You won’t make the wrong choice on either!
Has your temp gauges given you false readings? Mine started after 6 mo of use
Makes some great yardbird for sure but make sure you clean off that deflector afterwards because your next cook you might have a small grease fire on it!!
oops forgot to say thanks for watching and joining the Dead Broke BBQ family!!
@@DeadBrokeBBQ Thank you!!
Damn! Should have seen this video earlier. Just done my first smoke but didn't do this.
Well you should be ok but there still are a few that are having issues with the paint peeling some. Fingers crossed you don't have this issue but FYI it happens to all of them eventually. Thanks for watching and have fun with you new rig!
I figured it caught fire, lol
Hahaha well Thank god it didn't!!
Good video. Nine tendo
Hahaha ya my dad called it that!!! Thanks for watching!!
