I feel the same as Thorfinn. There was a huge void inside of me. Everything seemed too late for me. What the old man said in this scene... Oh God. I cried for hours.
Lots of Christian themes in the Farmland Saga, and Sverkel embodies much of those themes, particularly when it comes to how Christians should work and that being empty as a way to fill yourself with God's Holy Spirit
This scene kicked my ass I was a us soldier who fought in Afghanistan and I'll spare the details of what my life was like before that but all I wanted to do was kill people and fight but when I came home I started to realized how fucked up that whole part of me was so I tried starting again I loved wondered I picked up jobs I hated but couldn't find what it was till I met my now fiance and I realized how much more I wanted now I'm studying engineering physics and I actually have plans that don't include dying so seeing this scene for the first time made me so like a baby knowing and understanding exactly how thorfinn felt here
Good to hear man same for me it really changed my view on life and was at a very dark place Vinland Saga inspired me to become a better person in all areas❤
I’ve done a lot of bad things in my life, I lived in a way that was ruthless, selfish, and irresponsible, and I live that way for a long time ignorant to what that lifestyle was doing to me and the people who cared about me. Then because of my actions I lost someone very important to me. That loss was the wake up call I needed to finally change my ways. For awhile I was empty, depressed and losses when I realized what I had lost, but more importantly I finally realized what I was, and I began loathed myself, a feeling that I still have to this day. Then I started watching this show again. I related to thorfin so much at the beginning of the farm ark. Depressed, and at the lowest point of my life. Then I watched this scene, and it brought me to tears, and filled me with hope. I can change, I can be a better person, I just have to WORK.
This is how the best people are built.. follow your path bro. You have the power to influence others too. Whatever happens, don't blame yourself, you're trying your best with the tools you have.
Its such a damn beautiful scene and probably the biggest highlight of season 2. Thorfinn working on the farm as a slave/homestead, devoting his whole existence up to that point on killing a man who killed his father, was a cruel warmonger, and not exactly black and white good/bad guy. The most important words he needed from Ashey boys mouth to find a purpose for himself, because going the way he is, he will go on as he lived to that point, a partially filled husk which the contents only being his hate
God, what a cliffhanger!! The next episode is crucial for his character development!! I love the pacing!! It's slow and just right!!! I hope people understand how amazing this arc is for Thorofinn. You always don't need fast-paced action in an anime to make a story incredible!! Some times you need a slow-paced, deep character development to flesh out a character and to make the arc incredible!!
"Work, your hands aren't moving." Very beautiful depiction of the old master's Catholic faith. The cause of so much sin is the Noonday devil, who catches us around noon and incites us to not pay attention to our work, which we offer as a ceaseless sacrifice to God. The old man is rarely seen doing anything but working and having the Bible read to him, not allowing for sin to take root like a weed.
One of the best scenes. I like this one, Thorfinn's vision of the men he killed and his oath afterward, the 100 punches aftermath, and the conversation with Canute.
This show played a pivotal role in finding my faith, Christ is risen. The old man referred to Lent which is a Christian practice that is a fasting from meat, dairy, and oils for 40 days and you can only eat fish on certain days. I had my first lent recently because the concept is very new to me in the Orthodox faith. Though I struggled through the fast it revealed a lot of my pride and gluttony. Through the struggle of humility is love for the lord and grace through struggle. Men, you can be reborn. ☦
I don't Relate to any other character as much as i do thorfinn in anime. Solely from losing my father, your filled with so much hate. One day I was stuck in my bathroom cursing out the gods wanting to kill them myself. After a couple more years tho, you become more stoic with the issues beneath. They still come out as anger sometimes. But feeling empty a few years after is how I am. This quote resonated with me like no other. Had to pause it and think to myself that I really do have room to be a better person.
I know its equally as unbelievable that they'd speak english, but its especially more unbelievable in Japanese... to be fair its my fault for assuming all the Vineland saga clips would be in english. Normally I prefer Japanese dubs with english subs but this is the only series I'd make an exception for.

I respect the old guy and whatever he values.

This very thing you speak of, that this show showcases so well, if only others could see it, they would see how beautiful it is

This scene is so underrated. One of my favorite moments of the show

Apparently a lot of people don't so we might not be getting a season 3

This old man was my favorite character this season I couldn't wait until he was back on the screen such amazing character.
Lol. I can hear the cars in the background.
Beautiful scene btw. Sverkel was the real mvp of season 2.
How the fuc k is it that there are barely any views? This is literally the best thing during this arc

5:32 in fact, it's better to be empty if you want to be reborn.
Simply Amazing writing
Old man was definitely a true warrior for me.
Sverkel was such a GOAT in season 2 ngl.
Askellad is the result of broken but never stopped so he became pure evil

There is an english dub now if you prefer that.
I need to watch this in Dub too then.
