"C'est la Vie" is a song by American singer-songwriter Robbie Nevil, from his self-titled debut album in 1986. The song was first recorded by gospel singer Beau Williams for his album Bodacious! (1984).
Written by Nevil, with Duncan Pain and Mark Holding, Nevil recorded the song for his eponymous debut album, and it was released as the first single. Nevil's single spent two weeks at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in January 1987 and remained in the top 40 for 16 weeks, becoming his highest-charting US hit.[1] (It was kept from number one by two songs, "Shake You Down" by Gregory Abbott and "At This Moment" by Billy Vera and the Beaters.) Additionally, the song went to number one on the Hot Dance Club Play American dance chart for one week in February 1987 with an Arthur Baker remix. .[2] Internationally, the song reached number three on the UK singles charts and number one in Canada and Switzerland. The song featured in the Black Mirror episode, "San Junipero".

Great reaction - Robbie Nevil has written and produced songs for so many other artists (even before his solo career), like Pointer Sisters, Jordin Sparks, Luther Vandross - and so many TV & movie soundtracks over the years.

"C'est La Vie" is one of those songs that don't come every day. That's why I appreciate Robbie Neville's effort in getting this done. And to the DJ's that played it on the radio. And thank you Empress, for making a reaction video for your subscribers. You know how to put the light on the background vocals. The way sis sang C'est La Vie, just perfect.

Background lady on the drums is Brie Howard. She's not actually singing in the video, but Robbie loved her energy.
Among other things, she's grandmother to Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx's children.

So glad you liked this pick Empress! I remember this being a one hit wonder or if he had any other songs/videos I don’t recall any of them at all. This is one of those songs that would just get stuck in your head to the point that I would just randomly sing the chorus out loud out of the blue which I’m sure would startle people around me 🤣😂

This song was so good. Now and then. But you are so right about his swag. Robbie looks like he couldn’t be bothered to add a little energy at the video shoot. Like they came and woke his ass up and he was like, “Damn. That shoot’s TODAYYYY.” Meanwhile it was his first and only hit. You’d think he’d be so excited.

So since whenever I first heard this song in the 80's, I've been singing "That's just the way it goes, that's right", now it just occurred to me, are they saying "That's just the way it goes, that's life"? 🤓 I'm a 80's kid who couldn't look up lyrics back then and now I sing it like I learned it! Lol

    • @jessieball6195

"c'est la vie" (french) translates to "that's life", so basically he's saying "that's the way it goes (sometimes)".
