LYRICS:
There were tears in the eyes of Jesus
there were nails in the palms of his hands
There were thorns in his brow and only God could know how
Much pain he could withstand
There was blood all around the hillside
as a mother mourned her loss
And we all stood to gain from the heavenly pain on the other side of the cross
On the other side of the cross the side that no one could see
On the spirit of things yet to come on the future of you and me
And what he gave that day on the cross
not one bit of love has been lost
Hold my hand stand up
and say if you were there on that day
On the other side of the cross...

This song alone should have Don Reid in the Songwriters Hall of Fame..beautiful.
Did Don write that song? I wouldn’t be surprised if he wrote it.
@@jeffclark7888 Yes, it was written by Don Reid.
@@r6343 outstanding!
He will get his reward. This song is so selflessly written and just so beautiful
I believe they wrote it together but I’m not sure.
The Statler Brothers are the best gospel group I have ever heard. What a blessing from the Lord.
I think it is so touching how Harold and Phil lean on each other at the end of the hymn - best friends!
This song is sooooo beautiful and nobody can sing it like the statlers
Harmony singing at its finest.
Phil knocks it out of the park here.
Jimmy Fortune only got better with age! These guys are magical❤❤
I gotta give a shout out to the Lord. I play guitar and sing here and there. During the covid I like everyone else was sidelined. To get by, I prayed to the Lord to send me some new gospel songs ( when I play I always include at least two gospels). The Lord heard my pray and sent me songs so fast that I could NOT keep up. On 6/19/21 I was able to give an all gospel concert. A precious older woman as me if I knew this song. I had never heard it before. She asked me to try it out and please do it for her someday. I wrote it down so I wouldn't forget. Listened to this song this morning...Thank You Lord for sending this my way. I plan on giving Him all the glory and honor when I get the chance to perform it in the near future.
Rest in Peace Harold. Thank you for being a wonderful class act.
😭
The Statler Brothers could perform and sing like no other. Then when they sang gospel just wow. Amazing
Why don't they make music like this nowadays ?? All we have no is JUNK !! God Bless, >
Thats what your parents said about your music.
put on your big boy pants
I totally agree and have had the same feelings.
That's Exactly Right.
You Don't Hear
The Old Time Music
" Country Music " Now
Very Often .
The Statler Brothers Always Said
They Started Out With Cash
& They Left With A Fortune
This is the most beautiful song I have listened to I want to learn it so I can sing it for a special. I want to thank Jesus for giving his life that I could have mine.
I have the sheet music
Love listening to Phil singing, beautiful voice
He is underappreciated.
Amen!!
My husband use to sing on the other side of the cross now he is singing it in heaven with the angels miss ypu baby
So sorry for your loss,
As we head into this Easter season that Christ gave up his life for us we need to pay homage to him ,he died for us and we have got to give him all we can,we can never pay him back, listen to this song and see if don't shed some tears (THANK YOU PRECIOUS LORD)
Yes!! Our words seem so inadequate to thank Him enough.
Apart from everything else that’s been said about this inspirational performance, I must tip my proverbial hat to the arrangement and production. It’ll be hard to ever better this incredible performance, all I can say is perfection. I’m forever grateful to have been able to listen to the Stattler brothers over many years, and all the glory and praise goes to God Almighty who gave us these multitalented gentlemen. This is one of my very favourite pieces of music, ever. Rest in peace Harold, you were truly a gift from The Lord Himself.
The statler were great with lou DeWitt but Jimmy fortune carried them to another level of greatness
That is absolutely correct...Jimmy Fortune has an incredible God-given voice, and the harmonic blend of those four men was sent from heaven. Fortunately for everyone, Jimmy Fortune is still singing, recording and touring as a solo artist. God bless.
Love the Statler Brothers
My favorite singer Jimmy fortune
Yes, Jimmy took them to another level. Love them.
Agree.
P
Sing it Phil
It is so hard to accept the fact that Harold Reid on April 24, 2020! He was the best bass singer. Love all of their songs...
He's gone but I miss them all and their music. Their sound clean humor
Mn be
But Praise The Lord that Harold is in the Glory of The Lord and that all these songs were sung true!!!
We were the one's on the other side of the Cross, and I thank God that he gave salvation to us .
Amen, Frances Buck!!! ..... I Also Had The Privilege Of Seeing The "Statler Brothers", Just A Few Years Before "Lew DeWitt" Stepped Down And Retired From The Group, Due To Health Reasons. "BED OF ROSES", Is Still One Of My Favorite Country Songs, That They Sing. Only, I Prefer To Hear It With "Lew DeWitt" Singing Tenor. He Can Hit Those "High HIGH Notes!" I Loved His Tenor Singing!!!
This is the prettiest song I've ever heard. It's so sad they had to retire. It's so sad that Harold passed. There will never be anyone that can sing bass like Harold. RIP Harold and God bless the other three .
@gregnormal5101ciao amico! 🙋♀️😍😘💘🍀
Truly only Love held Jesus on that cross. His love for us. Not love that we perceive to be love....but only love that the Heavenly Father gave. Thank you, Lord.
First time I heard this was the last song of their farewell concert and it quickly became my favorite gospel song.
It was nice watching Ernie Hause ,showing respect for another Tenor !
I'll Moo moo moo mo.o moo moo moo moo
It is encouragement and love we give others as Jesus taught us...🧡❤♥️🙋♀️
Such beautiful harmony. Leaves you feeling at peace
FABULOUS none can compare with these guys, and what more can you say about Jimmy.
IT STILL GOING TO TAKE (THE BLOOD OF JESUS)TO GET TO HEAVEN,RICHES,GOODNESS WILL NOT GET YOU THERE(ONLY THE SHED BLOOD OF JESUS WILL TAKE YOU TO THE HOUSE)
1 of the Stats greatest hits. They will never be equaled.
I love this group .jimmy fortune a great tenor.listenen to them when they did only country,so glad they turned to gospel!
This is right at the top of my list of favorite gospel songs. I have requested it to be played at my funeral by The Statler brothers. Great message there in those words of comfort.
Beautiful song, miss these guys Rest In Peace Harold my prayers to the family
From Lew to Jimmy, they sounded like the same quartet and, at the same time, sounded different. They were still the Statlers, but better. They did reach a new level with Jimmy but Lew's voice had a uniqueness Jimmy's didn't. Jimmy's had a strength Lew's didn't. Either way I loved them and their music from the day I discovered them in the 60''s. They were wise in their choice of a successor for Lew. I also think the Statlers were some of the MOST clever lyric writers that ever wrote for ANY genre of music.
I like the way that you spoke your mind without being harsh to either of these fine singers, Lew and Jimmy. They are the same but different.
@@ojadkins Thank you. I really love all 5 of them. If I was ever inclined to be a groupie for anyone, it would have been them. Missed Lew when he got sick and had to leave the group but I will always have the memory of him kicking me in the head at one show. Only 3 left. Harold died early this year. Lucky fellows. They had a terrific career and a terrific retirement. That doesn't happen for everyone. Lots of talent and good planning on their part.
Love everything they sing.
When I die I want this song played at my funeral. Your Gospel music has been a Blessing to me for years
One of my favorite Statler songs they do. They have the harmony down perfectly!
“And when he gave” that is the most beautiful part of the song and the ending is amazing too... This song is very special and I myself would love to learn this song so I can sing it too. God is good! Adventist speaking.
These songs are cleaning my heart
Thank you God for these men bless them Lord.
This the greatest Southern Gospel song and the finest performance/presentation I have encountered in many years as a fan of Southern Gospel music.
Agree.

For sure!
I love to start my day with this song ❤ surely reminds me that I am a child of The Almighty
I like this song from the Statler Brothers in live better than album. But I still love the one from album. I really love the Statler Brothers. I really miss it when they sang. But they retired in 2002. That was when I was little. I wish that the Statler Brothers can sing again. I really hate it that they do not sing anymore. But I am still happy that Jimmy sings.
It's like they all fell from heaven. Absolutely love this song, beautiful!!!!!!!
That last chord makes the hair on your arms raise. They lock it and it's just awesome. I regret never being able to see them live.
I felt a cold shiver go right though me. It was a Moment will not be forgotten
They were magnificent!
Ah, yes, a V7 to I progression with a 4-3 suspension coming out of the 7th of the V chord. It's a classic way to add some energy to the cadence. Jimmy executed it flawlessly.
@@ajs11201 whatever that means, Jimmy was perfect! Shazam.
@@jeffclark7888 Agreed--it was perfect. I was just explaining the music theory of what Jimmy executed, and why that technique is energizing. Bottom line--it's a very effective technique and Jimmy is a natural wonder.
There were tears in the eyes of Jesus
beautiful song, thanks so much for sharing! thank you god fo giving your son, what a wonderful god we serve!
This was Harold's favorite song written by Don, according to Don's new book about their music. I can see why.
We were the one's on the other side of the cross !!! Praise the Lord

Its doesnt get any better than this!
Always loved the Staler Brothers and this was always my favorite song!!! Love the beautiful message and wonderful harmony. Thank you gentlemen for so many years of fantastic music. R.I.P. Harold. You are missed so much. Amen!!!

It is so sad that Harold passed. When I got to see them I loved his humor. For his family my prayers to you for his lose Just always loved this group and listen daily on U tube. God Bless the Statler family and especially the Reids
Great singing. Beauty...so much truth.
But beyond all of this..it was what Jesus did for us all.
Great song. I get goosebumps at the end of the song. Had the privilege of seeing them three times live. Never ever had a bad show. Always great.

This song enters my mind many days getting ready for work in the morning...
I love the Statlers beautiful song
,
No matter how many times I watch this I get goosehumps every. Single. Time. This live performance is even better than the album version. That's what being filled with the Holy Spirit in the moment does...brings the A game - in the Mother Church no less. Brilliant lyrics. Phenomenal performance. I adore this.
I really miss these guys
My favourite song , I heard it more than 100 times from CD. Thank you very much Brothers in Christ. Greetings from Tamilian, India.

Go Phil!!!! :)
that'll be in my head forever. I love it 😅
There is none better and never will be anyone better than The Statler Brothers they were absolutely tremendous
@Greg Normal A fan puts it mildly. I played Statlers at my wife's funeral
Greg I don't have a certain song that has my favorite they were such a wonderful group that all their songs were absolutely magnificent my opinion is they were the greatest singers ever to Grace this country and most of the songs they wrote themselves
How true is this song more now than ever!
WOW, just beautiful. I agree with Whizkid, it gives goosebumps.
Definitely give me goosebumps too!!
That resolution at the end of the song. Oh man 😳. So good. I’ve literally watched the ending 20 times and gotten goosebumps each time. Spot on.
Just gives me goosebumps listening to this song, have also been brought to tears, it is just so beautiful.
Every listing of the lyrics gets them wrong. It's "Hung the spirit of things yet to come. Hung the future of you and me!"
No one sings this better! Praise Jesus.
Chills...just wow
One of my favorite songs by the Statler Brothers. I grew up listening to the Statler Brothers on the radio and tape. They were the favorite quartet of my late grandmother.
this song features the baritones high range. more than most i've heard him on. why is he on baritone? even at his age when this was shot (i'm assuming 60's?) he could sing tenor or lead for most groups. he was the original and only baritone i believe the whole time the group was around. they started as a trio then added harold when his voice changed. then added jimmy when there former tenor got sick and couldn't perform (and eventually died). do i have all that right?
They added Don once his voice changed. Harold was part of the original ones.
wow, highly blessed by this song! Nothing like the gospel in song!!!
One of my favorite groups! Beautiful song🙏🏻😊I actually got to meet these guys in 1977 👍🏻
