I use to catch creek chubs by the dozens with my Zebco in my youth, the joy of having a creek behind my house... Now, 55 years later, I long for those days...
Damn straight! A three inch bluegill, one and a half inch bass (my personal best SMALLEST bugger I’ve ever caught) is always better than a no fish skunk trip. If I’m fishing for bass for some odd hours and not catching anything, I will switch it up to a small panfish setup like a bobber, split shot and small pinched night crawler.
This video really sends me back to a much more simple time when all we ever used was mono a size 4 hook and a bobber lol and it took 3 days to reel your fish in lol
I had a Kmart blue light special rod and reel back in my youth days. was the most peaceful times of my life to just bike to the bay and fish for a couple of hours, catching sea robins , flounder, little baby stripper blues...ad the occasional blue claw or spider crab riding my line up out of the brackish water around the boat docks....... oh the memories
@@RealisticFishing that's why i did my B-day giveaway. i truly want to share and spread the joy ( and yea a little frustration) and character building experience of fishing. Your the best keeping it realistic :)
😂😂😂 You’re catching 1988 blue gill.it’s always good to look back on your childhood when things were a lot simpler. I dug many a holes in my parents back yard looking for night crawlers, which got me in trouble more than once.😂😂😂
Wow! Throw back to when I was a kid in the 60s. Yes, I said the 60s. I had my Zebco bush button and simple rod and I was happy as a clam. My dad and I went to the Thousand Islands every year and caught a ton of BIG pike on that simple set up. No, you don't need hundreds of dollars in gear to catch fish; even big fish. As far as the night crawlers, my dad and I went to the golf course behind my grandparent's house and got a TON. We went after they watered the grounds and they were coming out by the truck loads. Easy pickings. Yes, the good old days. And back then ... anglers caught bass and actually kept and cooked them. Wow ! A real "no no" today. But it is where and when I cut my young teeth as an angler and am glad I did.
A kid solving the puzzle is what it's all about! 88 I was wading in water with a Abu Garcia my uncle gave me. Started my son on the Zebco 33. Love the throwback Thursday.
Brought back great memories fishing with daddy and my zebco 33 which I still have and use 😊thank you I love your videos you really do keep it real ❤️❤️❤️❤️
This may be one of my favorite videos you’ve done. Absolutely takes me back to when I didn’t care about gear, or baits, and was just psyched to go out and try and get something.
mid 1970`s for me man , thanks for the memories. and we all had to learn somehow . my first fishing pole was a zebco 202 reel and fiberglass pole combo from 1974 and the baid i was using was a rooster tail yellow with black spots , chrome blade and black feather tail. i was 4 yrs old almost 5 and i caught my first largemouth and it was about 3 pounds. my grandfather was so happy for me dont have the pole and reel any more but i still have that rooster tail
Wow! Thanks for bringing back memories of fishing with a Zebco 202 reel, red and white bobber and worms. Compared to a bamboo pole I thought that Zebco was really high tech and thought I could cast a mile with it. Thanks for reminding me of those “good old days.”
I remember them days...the good old days!! Although I probly had a knock off of the Diawa/Shakespear combo lol!! But do I remember my first diawa...I was bad ass rolling up to the fishing hole were all the older kids were...love ur videos brother!!
I love it.. made feel like a kid again.. had a pole and box just like that and we dug and raised our own worms.. we didnt getcha tub unless it was a special occasion.. great video..
About every two years, for Christmas, I buy my dad a Zebco 33. Its all he ever uses. Caught everything from tiny bluegill to huge catfish, fresh to salt water, ponds to the Atlantic Ocean. Love the throwback to the Olden Days of the last century.
I use that type of tackle box to this day! ( not my only one but main one yep). My reel however is a old school Mitchell 300A. Still reels them in fine. Love the channel! Keeping it realistic!

Good night! Loved this place, Congratulations, Beautiful Fish! *Hug!!!* 👍
1988 i was already fishing from a jon boat in a small lake near my house. Shaksphere spinning gear cheap-o quantum and diawa bait casters. I worked my ass off in the tobacco fields and putting up hey.
Yessir! Still have my old Zebco 202 and Plano lunchbox style tackle box from when I was a kid. Riding our bikes with tackle on board to local ponds and creeks. Digging worms and catching bream on corn, bread, bologna, hotdogs, or whatever we could get out of the house with. Getting muddy. And not going home until the streetlights came on. If you heard Dad whistling, it was time to make a bee line to the house! Good times and great memories! Awesome video...that’s how to Keep it Realistic 👊🏻😎
Brings me back. Had a set up almost identical when I was a kid growing up, fishing off the wharf in Nova Scotia. Thanks for the throwback! Good memories.
What a great "Throwback Thursday" adventure. We even get to see the bobber disappear. Mine was a Zebco combo but retrieve was about like yours. Realistic memories, it just doesn't get much better. Thanks Alex.
Sadly nostalgic, RF. I was a few years away from retiring from the army in 1988 and was equipped with fishing gear that nobody today would buy in a yard sale. The advances in fishing equipment tech is quite phenomenal. A very affordable (cheap) rod/reel at Walmart today is better than most everything pro anglers were using not too long ago. Despite the tech advances we still find ways to get hung up and break off. Still the greatest sport! Don
Wow, talk about a flashback brother. Reminds me of when I was a kid, 8 years old... mowing grass and white washing fences for mere dollars and change so I could get that then 12.99 zebco combo and head to the river with the boys to catch smallies and bluegills. Man it was a great feeling to buy and have my own first rig...that was Realistic....! Thanks for the flash back, great video brother.
I love my old gear. I have my Zebco Omega 33 from 1977 when I was 13, on a pistol grip Shakespeare U.S.A. 98% graphite BC rod from the early 90's. Super cool video! 😎👍🏻
That's how I fished when I was a kid 20 years ago.. digging the retro style of this video. I like the way you never leave stuff behind and even clean up after others. Hey I finally got a GoPro per your advice to try it and see. I'll be doing a trout video tomorrow, and possibly a multi-species video for later release.
Those were the days man! Not a care in the world but what's going to hit my worm while down at the creek.. can almost say those were the best days of fishing cuz whatever hit and you landed was just awesome! Thanks for this video man, brought me back!
I remember when i was a youngling carrying my tackle box & a telescopic fishing rod going to the local rivers n lakes. I would also catch my own bait like worms, grasshoppers, crickets & grubs. Thanks for memory lane 👊🎣😎
This brought back so many memories! Action on this rod- horrible! 🤣😂🤣🤣 Good to keep the old gear. I still have a Shimano spinning combo my dad got me in 83-84ish and I still use it.
Man I can't even remember the last time I used a setup like that rod and reel but I do remember always having them tangle up in side. DANG u made me jump with that soundbite when u caught that fish.
I just gave my 8 year old son a small old blue tackle box that I had as a kid. Trout fishing with floating cheese was my first fishing trip I remember. I have my old zebco 33 from 89 and I actually keep it in the car in the trunk all year long. Not gonna lie I jumped up out of the chair on that first bluegill, scared me haha. Great shirt and choice of video game!
Oh, man, I laughed out lout every time you played that power up sound! You never would have been able to reach that limb in 1988, though, TOTALLY UNREALISTIC! Great video anyway, thanks!
Rocking it old school. Reminds me of walking to the local lake in town when I was a kid, only 2 block walk, after going through my buddies dirt pile in his backyard for worms.
Pretty sure this is my favourite video of yours yet, loved the retro gear. Takes me back. And the sound effects where awesome. Especially the 1up effect when you found the free bobber. Haha, hope you do another one of these, and chase after a big catfish or something and push that gear to the max.
I love the four eyelet rod:) That was me back in 1990 except my go to bait was salmon eggs. Pautske's brand. And backyard worms for creek fishing Eastern brookies & Bull trout.
I tell you what, using old vintage gear every once in a while makes me appreciate the little things like silent anti-reverse. That tika-tika-tika-tika-tika-tika-tika-tika-tika after the 4-5 day in a row gets louder every time lol.
Thank you for the trip down memory lane! Pretty cool you have your old set up, I have no clue where mine from 1988 went. Thanks for looking out for other fisherman at the end😎

when he got snagged in the tree and said "oh noo! just like in 1988" haha lol
Hell that was me 2 days ago! I got a big tree bass.
That's still all I can afford. Lol. Basic is best. I love this type of fishing.
Still catches fish 😉
Me too.

LOL Were the sound effects from 1988 too? They startled me the first time you caught a fish!
I literally jumped in my chair
Sounded like something from duck hunt or super Mario bro’s.
Bro it actually scared the sh*t out of me

Alex, you got the love how them stick fish rip drag. Reminds me so much of my childhood. Especially when the dragonfly landed on the rod. Thank you.
Let’s peel this old worm off hear from the last fishing trip. This was my childhood revisited. Thanks man! Good times great memories!😎
Loved the retro sound effects. Wouldn’t it be cool to have those effects when actually fishing?
I still hear them 😅

Sweet! I still have an old Zebco 202 I use regularly
Lol loved this video man. The old game sounds really made it a throwback.. and the tackle box and pole complimented it very well
