IBC Pond Build Part 2 - DIY FILTER UNDER £30!! Super easy and simple yet super effective! All the pieces for this filter cost under £30!
The pieces i used are Lavarock: www.aquacadabra.com/
Filter Sponges: www.aquacadabra.com/
Water Pump: www.allpondsolutions.com
Really simple:
1) Grab a box to be the filter housing
2) Drill an inlet whole in the top of the box
3) Drill outlet wholes at the bottom of the box
4)Fill with RINSED lava rock
5) Dense foam on the rock, then put medium density, then put coarse foam on top
6) attach pump and hose pipe to the box with a spray bar
7) Turn it on and admire your work!
This filter gives both mechanical and biological filtration:
Mechanical filtration physically traps particles of uneaten food, fish waste, decayed plant materials, and other debris in the aquarium water. Mechanical filtration is the first stage of the filtration process, and should always be placed so that water coming from the tank hits this media first
Biological filtration is the action of bacteria in the tank breaking down dangerous ammonia, converting them to nitrites, and then the nitrites to the less toxic nitrates. ... The process of biological filtration, also known as the nitrogen cycle, involves the movement of harmful wastes through the filter
I will be doing a full follow up video showcasing the clarity of the water after just 12 hours, its GIN CLEAR!!!!
This is by no means the most tidy build, but it will get you out of a muddle your filter breaks, or your just getting into pond keeping!

Hi, How many koi can I put in a 1500 litre ibc? And for how long before I have to rehouse them? I’m not aloud to dig the garden up for a pond sadly 😅 however I’d like to possibly grow and pass them on to friends and loved ones with ponds of there own
