  • Welcome to the Swiss pilot site of OPENTUNITY in the Motta district of Massagno, near Lugano! Join us as Federico Giani from Azienda Elettrica di Massagno (AEM) SA takes us on a tour of this innovative project. This site features residential flats and houses for about 100 residents, an office building, a bustling warehouse, and an elderly care home.
Connected to the AEM distribution network via a 400 kVA substation, all prosumers benefit from advanced smart meters that report data every 15 minutes and store it for two years. A web-based tool helps users and managers track energy consumption, generation, and costs in real time. Additionally, a 60 kWp photovoltaic plant on the elderly care home’s roof boosts sustainable energy production.
The benefits of OPENTUNITY in this pilot site include providing an indirect real-time thermal rating, which offers a dynamic, low-cost method to better manage grid congestion and optimize grid planning. It also establishes a local flexibility market, allowing the DSO to start demand response campaigns and take advantage of the flexibility available from the prosumers. Additionally, it creates and maximizes public awareness among the citizens.
