      This was before your time. I would suggest you watch the original Password game show to see what it was like. It's all on UA-cam.

      Civilian contestants are paired with celebrities to solve puzzles consisting of five clues that are obtained by playing "Password". A contestant that earns $500 dollars advances to the bonus round where s/he plays for a larger jackpot by guessing ten passwords alphabetically. To echo what William said, you have to watch earlier editions of "Password" to get the gist of the gameplay.
