    At the local dealership I go to there are no dealer markups. Many RAV4s are on order but most of them are purchased. I ended up finding a 2022 RAV4 Hybrid Limited there, fully loaded with the JBL Stereo, Power Panoramic Moonroof, Digital Rear View Mirror, in Blueprint Pearl with 22k miles for $34k. CarGurus listed it as a Good Buy and a new one with the same equipment would cost over $14k more and I would have to wait 6 months to a year. I got a fair trade for my 2016 Wrangler so I bought it. There were new RAV4 and RAV4 Hybrid vehicles on the lot, but they were the LE and XLE (not Premium) versions. More than likely that's what most customers lease.
    It was a good buy. A vehicle with a lot of room that on country winding roads I averaged 59.5mpg! Now that I have been on the highway more I average 52.6mpg.. I tested the smart cruise... cool stuff, not too shabby.

    I was touring the Toyota RAV4 plant in Cambridge, Ontario in February 2024, and they said they were running 6 months behind with dealer orders. The plant could not keep up with the demand, and they were producing one RAV4 every 70 seconds.

    Most of the listed options are factory and included in the SRP (suggested retail price). The $2605 are really the last 3 ridiculously overpriced and unneeded items. $1500 for paint protection film (riiiiight!!!), $425 for all weather floor mats (first, the car already comes with carpet mats, and the real price on the all weather mats is also $309), and $680 for some kind of unneeded tint.
    This is really the dealer markup. I would reject them all. On 9/1/24, I bought an XLE Prem HYBRID for $600 UNDER sticker, and no dealer options. These dealers want to us to believe that they are selling some kind of prized commodity. It's a Toyota, not a Ferrari.

    Yep the dealers in my area have only a few on the lot and they have dealer add on’s. There’s a lot in production but wont know the price until they’re on the dealer lots.

    I have literally never seen this vehicle marked up. The only time I did was when the RAV4 prime came out, I am in south FL. My local dealer has 42 of these and they are in very high supply down here.

    Aloha Rob. The dealerships of Toyota wont permit you to build your vehicle online now. The allocation is the only way to get the newest Toyota models. These new additions are the markups for these Toyota products.

      The build feature is still available online. To the best of my knowledge you could never build online and just order. I assume you mean you can’t spec out and build a Tacoma at the dealer and order according to that spec?

    I bought a RAV4 XLE premium gas and got $1815 off msrp with no add ons. Got a fair price on my trade. I live in the sf Bay Area where deals are hard to find on Toyotas. You just have to educate yourself and shop around.

    I would say no to the $2600 add-ons. If they already installed the stuff, no thanks, I’ll buy elsewhere.

    Hi, where can I buy a good ca seat cover for my 2022 RAV4?

    I did my homework and knew exactly what I want and don't and the MSRP prior stepping into the dealership. They didn't have what I want and the salesman taunted me and said why don't I just get the LE. The sale manager came to the rescue and cut me a deal giving me those extra add-ons (digital mirror, cross bar, cargo net) I don't want for free. After I got my RAV4 the next day I immediately took those off.
    And then the finance department was another hassle. Even they already knew I will pay with full cash, they still forced me to wait for 2.5 hours (dealership was empty, lots of employees, only one or two customers) making it look like I am begging them something, then the up-sale extended warranty. I declined. Another employee walked in and another up-sale.

    One other mostly serious question. The added goodies show "Dual usb car charger to convert your vehicle's cigarette light into two 2.4a power sources." The Nissan manual specifically forbids using such an adapter. Maybe the Rav4 has a higher output alternator? But really, what is a cigarette lighter? Is that like a Bic? Won't the flames melt the converter?

    • @robmotivetoo
      @robmotivetoo  6 місяців тому +1

      I wouldn’t do it if the manual states not to.

    Do they maintain a low inventory to be able to create a high demand and a high er price????

      i thought so too but it seems that Toyota is behind on production because they have many vendors who supply parts and that is where the delays are, even though the supply chain issues we saw during covid are mostly resolved. Toyota would not gain anything by holding back production. It's dealers who charge premiums and get suckers to pay more for nothing extra. Toyota would be losing money because most people would just buy another make.

    this is wild. it's a 5 year old vehicle that isn't even competitive feature wise. I could understand if the hybrids were selling at MSRP but no excuse for someone not to get off on a Gas rav4.

    They don't have much here on the lot where I live, and they won't deal much either when they do get one in.

  • @jonathanratliff4780

    It’s because they’re selling so many of them they can barely keep up production. So much for RAV4 sales going down due to the alleged pristine Korean competition lol!

    It shows "Direct Shift" Transmission. What then is an Indirect shift one? Glad to read it's a "Transmission with intelligence and sequential shift mode." Hate those dumb transmissions that shift out of sequence, you know like from 2nd to 5th then to 3rd... or worse from 6th straight into reverse.

    Every one of these had ugly black interiors, seems to be very common with car dealers in the mid=west. I would walk away from a dealer that has all these add-ons. Limited availability seems to be the new Toyota production tactic to raise profits.

    • @adamc1694
      @adamc1694 6 місяців тому +1

      Many of the manufacturer add-ons can be purchased and installed ourselves with a much lower price. Those dealer add-ons, protection this and that, are just a total ripoff. $399 Vehicle protection package for example they will just give you a bottle of wax and fabric cleaner lol. In the past dealers put on useless pinstripe and charged a few hundreds.

      I thought so too, but how would that raise profits? Toyota would not gain anything by holding back production. It's the dealers who charge premiums and get suckers to pay more for nothing extra. Toyota get the same amount for each car but losing money because of low sales volume and most people would just buy another make.
