Summary/ interpretation of some of the general art tips Ina covered and that I took note of from this stream! (not Krita specific)
    1. The #1 skill of an artist is... learn to google! 1:51:51
    2. Reposition your various tools/windows so they are are convenient to use. 37:48
    3. The value of custom brushes! 54:57
The process of experimenting with brush properties can be immensely rewarding and have a huge impact on your art. Just learning what different properties brushes can have and the specific differences and general use cases for each teaches you a lot!
    4. The importance of flipping your canvas, a tip found in nearly all of her art streams!
Flipping your canvas helps correct imbalance in your drawings and aids in preventing your work from favouring/skewing to a dominant side. Rotating, as well as flipping your canvas both horizontally and vertically can all help give you a fresh perspective on your art.
    5. Why does Ina use layers? 1:21:21
Ina talks about how she uses layers to separate different elements of her art. One example being having her lineart and colour on separate layers, which helps with compartmentalizing and refining those specific steps in her drawing process. There are many other benefits to working with multiple layers such as the various layer modes available in many programs as well as just making it easier to edit and change your art’s overall composition.
Thanks Ina for the stream! Despite being new to Krita you did a great job showcasing the basics of what it has to offer both with your tutorial and your wonderful art. Thanks for exposing people to a great completely free and open source program!

@zooboo They meant me; I am one of the Krita developers and I was in the stream, talking as Krita. You are not wrong in the idea, but the reality is a bit less colorful: for Krita, there were around 300 people contributing to the code in 20 years. One can compare with Blender, where it's around 400-500 contributors. However, the Krita core development team (regular contributors) was always much smaller. Right now there is 9 paid developers (most of them hired in 2019 and 2020; before that, there were just Dmitry and Rempt), and together with all the more active volunteers it would be probably less than 20 people in total, I guess (not counting people who take care of the manual, or user support, or even triaging etc., but even counting them in it would be less than 30, if I'm being very inclusive :) ). Of course people kinda come and go, and there are some one-off contributions too, which is why the total number of contributors is much bigger.

talking about learning krita, I highly recommend "won't teach you how to draw v6" brushpack by wojtry
it's only 20 extra brushes, but they are very much worth it
about 12 of them have nice texture + hue variation + a nice effect of getting darker hue from applying a lot of pressure - so you can use a single brush to block out shapes, shade, and have natural texture
then there is a brush for blending with a hard-edge (one side is a hard edge, the other is soft) - very useful for cylinder-like things and anatomy things
+ another brush with the same idea (a stroke applies color asa hard brush, but then turns into a smudge brush) - similar to what Sinix uses
and then finally it has a lovely extrusion brush to create shapes / fix drawing elements

Kicked off really energetic and things just started going down as we went (Or I should say up because sleepy Ina is one *adorable* little thing). This was such a great stream!
I've always wanted to be a writer in some way since childhood, and a few years ago I settled on my dream career to be becoming a mangaka, as manga/anime has had a huge impact on my life. Over the last 4 years I self taught myself with the internet's help how to draw by hand from scratch, I mean I literally started from stick figures that's how bad my art skills were. Recently I've tried learning how to draw digitally to make that next leap in my career aspirations and its definitely been an overwhelming experience, digital art is a whole different ball game! And part of it is there's just so many programs with so many different functions/tools.
So thank you for showing us a free, open source program that seems to be very user friendly for people just getting started in digital art. I learned a lot while watching, and I appreciate you taking the time to go through a program for the first time along with us to show us your mindset when going into it. I look forward to trying Krita out at some point hopefully very soon.
Thank you for a great stream Ina & chat! :D

I've actually been hoping to find an easy to understand krita tutorial of sorts so I'm happy ina did this! I've been fumbling around with it and doing basic stuff but I'll go through this video the next time I try drawing :> it's cool that she's trying to introduce more people to drawing and practicing art, it makes me want to follow along with her art videos lol

for the stream Ina, poor braincell ran out of juice at the end, if only we could give you some of the sugar your streams give us daily...
I really like these learning streams, I’m not much of an artist myself but it is really nice to see all the settings and options, plus seeing an Inacredible artist go through their thought process really helps newer artists IMO.
Idk how many more free or cheap programs there are out there, but please continue to do these types of streams if you want to, they are very helpful!

37:10 How can i replicate this in clip studio?
The view -> rotate -> flip horizontally option mirrors the image according to the center of the screen.
The canvas -> rotate -> flip horizontally option moves it to center of the screen, but then mirrors it there.
none keep it in place after i've moved it.

    • @eufrik
      @eufrik 3 роки тому

i was trying to figure this out too wondering if this is a better method until i realized something after testing it out in clip (even after using clip for years lmao):
its not replicable in clip but imo it's not entirely necessary. the first one is more useful when you want to work on a portion of the artwork. as long as the area you're focusing on is somewhat centered in your viewport, your view will remain on that portion even after it's flipped
the 2nd one is just the same as what Ina mapped in Krita, except Clip adds the step of centering the canvas too as you mentioned. either way, the disadvantage to this way of flipping is that you'll have to move the camera back to the other side of the canvas to the portion you were working on. check 1:09:00 onwards when ina starts sketching, you'll notice she has to keep pulling her canvas back to the center to reach the working area. i think this method is great for assessing the whole artwork but not while working on a portion. im guessing her huge cintiq24 screen size is a factor especially when she has to bring the floating windows closer to her comfortable drawing position, so she cannot totally center the work area for flipping using the first method
i prefer not to strain my hand constantly pulling around the canvas even if i use a smaller setup, so i use the first method but really, it's up to preference and workflow

Want to try again to learn to draw so went back to this stream to see how Ina set up krita. Is quite interesting how different and similar past Ina and present Ina are, kind of strange to hear "yap yap yap" on this video now that yap is a popular word in 2024. Anyway Im glad Ina is still here with us and that she did lots of art, gesture drawing and doodle streams; its time to renew my Inacademy student membership and start a new semester!

I used to use Krita for colour back when I was mouse only, when I did my lineart with mouse+Inkscape. Moved to Fire Alpaca when I got myself a small screenless pen tablet because I found its stabiliser to be very good for my wack-ass hand. Haven't figured out a good setting on Krita's stabiliser yet to make it feel the same, but I'd love to come back and use it again, I miss some of the things I used to be able to do with it.

Oh this. I recognize this art drawing program. I find it very useful for the purposes of rendering (not sure if that's the proper terminology). And as a little advice from myself to anyone reading this, try using a touch screen monitor or a drawing tablet. Unless your mouse can detect the pressure you exert on it, you won't be able to generate some of the effects (well you could but it will take a while).
