Yes this really works!!!!! I installed several of these sprinklers and had wonderful gardens. I used a manual timer and ran the water for 20 minutes in each garden whilst I readied myself for work! Walah!!!!
I like this because it's gets you thinking about how to easily solve sprinkler system problems. I recently moved into a house that had an in ground system which flat didn't work. I had to do a lot and spend a lot just to get it to work. I have added 2 new gardens that I am now watering by hand. With this method I can easily get my gardens watered cheaply while a try to come up with a new plan of extending or adding a new group of zones. (Which are not cheap - nice to have options)
Well that is just great. You are a genius. I am going to adapt this to watering my gardenpots when I go on vacation. If I put them all together they could get one good spray everyday. Thanks for the inspiration. Really simple when you know how to do it.
Thanks for sharing your project. It is interesting and helpful. A poorly designed, inefficient in-ground sprinkler system came with the new house I bought --- talk about a waste of $$$. Now, I'm looking for ways to improve watering the lawn. btw - your descriptive presentation of materials (labeled on paper) is most helpful - wish other youtubers would do that.
Thank you for taking the time to show another way to make projects at home. There's always idea's from someone to learn from and to come up with you're own, from others work. Great video, Thank you...

I came by this video because I was thinking of making something like this for my elderly mother so all she has to do is turn on the garden tap but I was thinking of using a uPVC pipe & drilling holes in it every 1 inch (or so) & running it along the fence with it connected to the tape. It may work.
Exceptionally good presentation for a how to video. I would merely suggest showing the completed device at the beginning before itemizing all the component parts. My preference with sprinklers remains with the type that can apply water to a rectangular area rather than an arc.
How can I adapt this to lay ithe pvc pipes down in the garden to water the roots of vegetables, instead of the leaves? Thank you for your guidance. This video was great!
If u have nylon or regular kite rope or kitchen twine you can wrap it around the pipe and use a fast sawing motion and it works also for cutting. Its like tying your shoe but before u make the knot, u have to have the string completely around it. My dad taught me that trick
Thanks for very useful and helpful information on sprinklers. Sir, But when you start knob of water supply, to get addiquate pressure to sprinklers, have you connected electric water pump or it is on regular water pressure in your locality. Good clip.
PVC pipe isn't UV stabilized so your exposed pipe will become brittle and break. How is this different from a popup sprinkler doing the same thing except you've got it attached to a fence? How is this less expensive than doing the same thing with popups and black pipe (which is longer lasting and cheaper)?
+Chris Vickery up and over tall plantings, low watering is good early in spring or for short plants like lawns.. I need mine to spray from above 6 ft. I have drip also but have a huge array of plantings that this would help with. Covering the pipe tho for sure, good point

Gardeners know why this is a desirable set up.. not for everything just a good way to get water up and over very tall plants. Night watering reduces evaporation. I have been hanging an oscillating sprinkler up high on the fence on the side of the post! This would be much nicer
It's great for pissing off the neighbor nextdoor...just kidding...great video for even getting a small space just wet enough w/o having to stand there and hand water. I'm off to Home Depot now.
You know, that video reminded me of the good ol' days when I would build neat and creative useless devices... Based on how nice and relaxed he is, I believe his neighbor would be OK with him just building a platform large enough for him to stand, in that same location and giving his whole yard a golden shower.
@@peterdallman9760 Yeah and if you connect a fire hydrant you'll blow a fitting too. Hate this UA-cam "gotcha" culture that values correcting a person over adding to the conversation
Yeah Buddy... you got some great ideas. The most efficient way to waste a bunch of water into a mist that blows no telling where. If you pay my water bill, I'll take one of your 'inventions'. *LOL*
The higher/taller the water sprayer is off the ground the more water will be wasted via mist, wind, evaporation. What is ideal is a close to the ground sprinkler that puts out large water droplets. A good metal pulsating sprinkler will cost less, last longer, and work 10x better than this pvc nightmare.
You NEVER use teflon tape on pvc or other plastic fittings. The threaded fittings become too slippery and rather than getting a tight fit, the fittings bottom out and are loose.
I am sorry this is ridiculous. I thought he was making a sprinkler. The pipe is the cheap part, might as well buy it from the store. The Hunter rotatory is the real cost. And yes mounting sprinklers high is cool, but this is TOO HIGH. I would love to see him adjust it up there.

It might be cheap but depending on your plants it’s best not to spray the leaves. Promotes problems.

YOU are welcome to use as much teflon tape as YOU desire.
That's going to be real easy to adjust since it is 3 feet over your head.
if your having pvc pipe exposed maybe consider using uv resistant pipe . idk it looks rachet to me
Don't understand this! You aren't 'making a sprinkler' just attaching a commercial sprinkler to a plastic pipe.
Yeah he was against ones that do a circle. The one he is using does a circle. Hmm an yeah where is the sprinkler he was making. He bought it.
glad you like it but this is not inexpensive or cost effective
LOL...That puts out water in a circle... You said we don't grow our gardens in circles.... That setup waste water... Try using drip Tape...
+Z71Ranger it's a half circle or a 1/4 circle if you need it to be..
Didn't get the point - you don't make a sprinkler here. You buy one and just attach it to the pipe. The presentation though is very fluent one.
Más yo u don:t have job for. woman?

Watering air. Water will evaporate by the time it hits the ground

But is still produces a circular pattern.
I was on board until the 5th minute, then you lost me. I don't want to have to put a post in my front lawn so I can water it.
50% of your water probably evaporates before it hits the ground. This is one expensive way to water.
That is. Right

Evaporates...lol...ya if your living in say Arizona right now and watering during say 11am-5pm....

Title should be "how to connect an off the shelf, sprinkler".
or you can just buy a $8 sprinkler from Dollar General
Bed idea. Most of the water is evaporating.
see all them weeds? thats because your sprinkler just sprays everywhere... water the plants not the weeds
those tools cost more than you can buy a sprinkler for
Yeah a good cutter will cost you like $30. You can get a cheaper one but why would you do that,
NOPE NOPE NOPE.............After you buy all that to make it, you can actually buy a set up that will work better than that.
If you're totally inept then yes you should make your own. I made mine for 2 bucks a piece and works great so :P lol
