Your relationship with Rob is so like mine was with my late husband. My Mum used to always ask why we were “falling out” and the pair of us just looked dumbfounded! That is how we were but, like you two I am quite sure, we were the best of friends and it was just our way. Couple of lovebirds to be truthful! Your choices this haul are just right for your holiday. Really like each garment.xx
Happy New Year Helen and to Rob too! I am very envious of your upcoming cruise from Cape Town up the garden route. South Africa is absolutely beautiful and you will love it! If you do go on excursions into any of the city areas my advice is to wear no jewellery at all and don't even take a handbag as they simply make you a target. Unfortunately crime is a serious issue there especially in the cities and it can be violent. Just be aware and, to be safe, stay in a group. I used to live in Durban and am so looking forward to hearing all about your trip, enjoy it, I know you will!
I agree with previous comments, and to add; don’t forget lip salve as well as socks / trainers to minimise the risk of insect bites. Not sure what time of day your safari will be, If early in the morning it can be very cold before sun up/ after the sun sets so pack a fleece/ hat etc. have a wonderful time, I love seeing the animals in their natural environment, their character really shows in that setting.
You will love Azamara. We did a 16 night Norway cruise in June. The staff is amazing. Love that we are not nickel and dimed to death. The food is so good. We would eat breakfast in the main dining room. We like the service and the quiet atmosphere. Had two specialty dinners with our room package and enjoyed them, but the main dining room at night was exceptional. We are not wine "snobs" 😀, so what was included was good for us. The beds are so comfortable we never want to get out of them, but then there were so many things to do that we were up and at 'em. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Just a hint about sea sickness. My husband swears by the acupuncture available in the spa. Also, we stayed two nights in Southampton at the White Star Inn and loved it. What a gem.
Oh Helen, my dear Polly used to be terrified by fireworks. The worst thing I did was go out once when our neighbours were letting off fireworks and my poor girl dug up the carpet, ripped off a cupboard door and knocked the telly off the stand in her efforts to escape. It still haunts me and we lost her nearly three years ago. I love and miss her so very much. Anyway, arrived in Funchal today. Such an amazing place at this time of year. I always say if I was ever going to buy a holiday home it would be here. Belated Happy New Year to you and your family xx
I bought my hubby a sign for his home office which says, “My wife says I never listen. At least I THINK that’s what she says?” Great haul Helen! Love the green dress on you. Fab trip you found!
Hi Helen, we did the Azamara Mediterranean cruise and it was fantastic. The white night was brilliant. Great passenger staff ratio and our captain and his crew were very friendly. Our booze was included but some people upgraded to the premium package but we didn’t find it necessary. Lovely being on a smaller ship. You will have a great time. Love your video as usual. I’m 66 and the same height and size. Love watching but as I live in Australia, it is just inspiration. Happy 2024.
What a brilliant haul. Love them all, the white tops/khaki bottoms will be perfect for keeping cool and the monsoon dress is gorgeous. Love the length too! Have an amazing trip, looking forward to having your updates
Happy New Year ! Loved the first haul of 2024❤. The Khaki trousers look fabulous on you and perfect paired with the 3 tops. Khaki dress was also lovely on you, but a style I would of looked at but it truly was lovely. Xx
We had a holiday in SA a few years ago; 5 days on safari and 2 weeks in the south, including Capetown and the wine country. It was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. Enjoy your cruise and SA in general.
Lovely clothes Helen. My faves are the first broderie anglaise and the khaki dress. Have a wonderful vacation, looking forward to hearing about it when you return.
Happy New Year! We did a self drive tour of the Garden Route (Cape Town to Port Elizabeth) a few years ago. Solo, independent travellers. I don't ever remember feeling unsafe, except for when we were stopped by the police once, asked where we were heading, and told we couldn't take that route as there was a riot there and cars were being stoned! It's a beautiful country but you cannot escape the poverty and inequality. Do go to Boulders Bay nr Cape Town to see the penguins if you get the chance, that was one of the highlights for me. Also bear in mind that safari tours tend to be very earlly morning or evening so could be chilly. The food is fantastic. Have a great time, look forward to hearing all about it.
Oh Helen the last part of the video has so made me laugh - duo lingo!!! Love it. There seems to be so many husbands retiring this year, including mine. It’s hard and we do love them but it’s tiring when we have run the house etc all our lives and then somebody wants to come along and help!!! Not sure that is the right word…..I try to find time away from my husband albeit in our bedroom watching tv there sometimes or meeting friends. It’s called compromise haha. We forget these men have left work colleagues etc behind and we still have ours so they want to come everywhere with you!! Bless them. Take care love the haul as always xx
Hi Helen, Health and Happiness for 2024 and keep bickering with the lovely Rob. My hubby and I went on Journey, Azamara for our first cruise and it was marvellous…from Rome, down the Adriatic to Santorini etc. The White Night out on the deck was super and everyone looked great. Staff were fantastic kids from all over the world (and all got on so well - different cultures, religions etc. living in harmony). Loved your haul from next and such a bargain. You put me on to the clearance section and it’s super, just like your holiday sounds.🏴xx
Will be embarking on my 6th Azamara cruise around Japan in March as a solo cruiser . My favourite cruise line based on size good food service and most importantly ability to access your destination quickly as the ship can berth very close to the port being so small. Azamara has a relaxed atmosphere with no need to dress up if you don’t wish to . I take a small suitcase only as there is a free laundrette . The food is excellent with Windows buffet (try the smoothies) Discoveries restaurant and the Mosaic cafe for coffee and cookies ! Which ship are you going on? Whatsinport worth looking at on line as tells you what to expect at each destination.
Thanks to everyone who gave tips on South Africa ❤. Helen I’ve sailed with Azamara before and have the South Africa one on my list. I think you’ll love it. They are very nice little ships in good condition. The food is generally good and don’t forget to eat in the little poolside grill. Very nice at lunch. Have a fab time and tell us all about it when you come back. It might help grow your channel as well as there are loads of us cruising aficionados on You Tube. 😊
We just got back from our third visit to South Africa - this latest trip was seven weeks. We love it. We drove, walked around, did day tours. My advice is - watch your phone and don’t walk around at night. Otherwise usual precautions. It’s a stunning country.
Love the clothes today. My husband and I are like you and Rob. Some people misunderstand our relationship. It must come with being married for a long time! We went on a cruise to South Africa in 2009. Visited Durban, Port Elizabeth, Richard's bay and Cape Town. We walked off the ship and found our own guide on Safari for a day. Very surreal seeing huge elephants walking in front of vehicle! I don't take very much jewellery and I leave it on the ship before going on tour. It's not worth the hassle of being robbed or mugged for it! Peace of mind. Cheers Diane Mandurah Western Australia x
I've never liked new years eve, always stay in, I don't want other people's germs and like to be quiet 😀 I love all the clothing, the dresses both lovely for your holiday, the white tops are very pretty.💕💕
Happy new year Helen. Oh gosh Helen all the clothes looked amazing on you. The trousers were fab. Everything was great. The dresses were fab. My only concern was the black shirt for a hot country. I live in Australia and I would not wear a blk top thro the day in summer it just attracts the heat.that’s my view anyway. Yes let’s hope for some peace Helen. Cruise sounds fab.
Hi Helen, please don’t ever stop rambling on and digressing, we love it! All the items you showed looked perfect on you and just right for the cruise, which sounds great by the way. Still chuckling over Gammon Gate😅. My husband of 56 years causes me similar problems (although you’d think by now I would have it solved!) but you set me thinking and I’m wondering if I gave him a really detailed reason behind the request, he might have more success! Never too late to try… ☺️. Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year x
The happiest of New Years to you and Rob, Helen. I sincerely hope it's a good one. My motto for this year is "the New Year needn't bring me anything, just not take anyone away". I lost 2 dear friends last year - that was enough. On a happier not - I enjoyed your vlog today. Some good bargains there! 😘
Hi Helen and a very happy new year to you and your family. I totally agree with all your comments about the celebrations and wishes and hopes for 2024. Your cruise sounds very exciting and it sounds as if it will be more relaxed than the previous one. What a treat to start off your new year! The first white broderie anglaise blouse is so pretty and an amazing price and the khaki trousers look great on you as does the embroidered dress.I’m looking forward to all your videos this year and really hope your channel grows as well as your subscribers as you really deserve it.❤️🥰
Like you Helen I love broderie anglaise. Both tops were lovely but the first one had the edge on the second. My eyes shot open when Dolly rushed down past you. It was a near miss!! 😮 I reckon she wanted to tell Rob you were talking to yourself again! 😂 I can tell you and Rob have that crucial sense of humour ingredient needed in all relationships. If it's not there from the off then there's something wrong. We need humour to get us through all the ups and downs of life. Humour, respect and loyalty to each other is essential for a good relationship. Loved both dresses, the lengths being just right for you. Again, Happy New Year to all. 🎉
Happy New Year Helen to you and your family ❤❤❤ Aww, so sad that they do fireworks for so long. It’s not great for the animals but like you say, it’s just a few hours. I just like family time on new years with drinks and a nice buffet or something simple. I know what you mean, I feel exactly the same. The world is crazy. Oh my goodness 😮😮😮 Helen, I was brought up in South Africa 🇿🇦. I was born in England and moved to Durban at aged 5. We then moved to Pietermaritzburg at aged 11 then at 15 moved to Cape Town. Honestly, Cape Town is absolutely beautiful. You’ll love it. I haven’t been to the Eastern Cape before. You’ll have to visit The Waterfront and Camps Bay in Cape Town. I went back to visit Cape Town in 2006 and haven’t been back since. You’ll love ❤️ it. I have so many wonderful friends there xxxxxxxx
Love those green slacks - they fit you perfectly, great length, and the white top looks really good too. The green dress is pretty - love the color, and the lawn cotton dress will be so good in the heat. Happy New Year!
Helen the khaki embroidery dress looked absolutely lovely on you. You looked like a model and so very comfortable in it. Youthful yet age appropriate. Do hope you feel as good as you look in. Happy New Year and wishing you and yours many more blessings in 2024.
Love seeing you in the red sweater and gosh everyything in this haul looks so good on you. The trousers are so flattering! Your upcoming trip sounds amazing, I hope we can go to some of the places with you!! Looking forward to lots more videos in 2024!!
Happy New Year Helen! You looked gorgeous in everything, perfect for your trip to SA. 👍 My dog is also terrified of fireworks, it's heartbreaking to see. We live close to Alton Towers so you can imagine what it is like for the November fireworks, which sound so loud it's unbelievable. We have to take her out for a drive on all three nights to get her away, the poor thing. 😢 My hubby and I also 'banter' constantly and take the mickey out of each other - though really we adore each other. But if I started being lovey-dovey all the time he'd probably think I was having an affair or something!! 😂 Take care, hope Sheila is OK. Xx
Haloo Helen, & happy New year! Have the 2nf broderie top. Wore it loads over summer. Lucky you escaping to warmer climes, enjoy. Here in the north, the weather is really dreich, & can't wait for lighter & warmer days. Enjoy your break. x
Poor Dolly...HAPPY NEW YEAR ..its my birthday on new years day, this year it was 70yrs!, I'm now on my own after losing my husband January 23 after looking after him for four years on my own. I went for a meal on my own in my local oldy worldy, had a free dessert and lots of hugs and Great conversation especially when talking to a young man who'd been to Sandhurst, and had a lovely doggo, who took to me, of course because I love animals. He told me that he was weary of strangers and because he loved me he said as much as him I think he was impressed. All started because of this and I showed him a pice of my officer dad who was fighting in Burma 1946 the forgotton army. You look lovely in most things and I think you have a good colouring, not overfond of too dark clothing. Anyway don't forget mozzi repellent and codeine for upset stomach. X
Happy New Year to you both Helen. I loved everything you tried on, that white short sleeve top looks so lovely with the green trousers and so slimming. The green dress is just beautiful, as I said a winner everything is fab. I know just what you mean about banter and bickering, we have been married 57 years in Feb. And we’ve always done it, doesn’t mean disrespect at all and we love each other dearly. I’ve heard that Asamara is fabulous so I bet you are really looking forward to your holiday, how exciting. Lovely video.
Hi Helen, loved all the items apart from the black blouse but that’s just a personal preference. I use to work for a cruise company and never came across any complaints about Azamara cruises, I hope you have a lovely time.
Loved the khaki dress! When I was in Cape Town - given many years ago - I left all my jewellery at home bar a simple silver chain and earrings. If the ship is less formal you won’t need as much jewellery for evenings. There is a chap who does excellent cruise videos on UA-cam - Gary Bembridge / Tips for Travellers - & he has been on Azamara, as has Emma Cruises I think - worth a watch! My hubby has no internal dialogue - when I found out, my mind was blown too 😂😂😂 we still laugh about it!! X
Liked all of your outfits they’ll be perfect . I’m sure you’ll love Azamara we do, my hubby loves not having to wear a jacket every night. The food was fantastic never felt the need to go to the speciality restaurants. You could always find a sunbed by the pool. I will say the bathroom especially the shower is the smallest I’ve ever had on a ship. I work on ships and have had bigger crew bathrooms !! As for the dress code some people where very very casual and didn’t make much effort to change for dinner witch I think is a shame especially when you’ve been out in the heat all day. But I guess everyone is different. Poor Dolly I hope she’s ok, my brother has a puppy Stanley and said he was the same and was off for a few days afterwards. Happy and healthy new year to you and your family. xx
I like to dress up in the evening, makes it feel 'holiday' but like you say each to their own. I have heard that about the bathrooms, we have had the offer to bid on an upgrade, but I worry that it'll be in the wrong position on board and we'll regret it..... xx
HAPPY NEW YEAR. I Like the trousers, second white top and the Monsoon dress is gorgeous. We went to S Africa about ten years ago, do try and go to the top of Table mountain unlessl the cloud tablecloth is there!. I am sure you will enjoy your trip but I think it is adviseable not to wear your most valuable jewellery. It is the same in most big cities but from what I remember it was a bit dodgy there in parts but I expect you will be on escorted tours.🌞🌞
Hi Helen. I’ve been along the garden route twice by car so I would imagine you will perhaps have some inland tours. Cape Town harbour is lovely for cafes and restaurants. There is a fabulous view of table top mountain and going up to the top may be one of your tours. There’s also tours to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was held captive for approximately 25 years, although I’m sure it had all been painted and smartened up since he was there. There may be a tour to Cape Horn and Cape or Good Hope. It’s a nice drive down there but very windy ++. The sights en route are the baboons and penguins. You may get a trip to the wine lands and Franschhoek is lovely. Nearby is Stellenbosch but Franschhoek has the appeal of being a top class village . Hermanus town is not up to much but famous for having the whales so very close to the shore but I suspect they will not have arrived yet due to it being too cold. Oudshoorn is further along and famous for farmed ostriches but may be too far inland for a tour. I’m sure you will have opportunity to see huge schools of dolphins and whales en route. We stayed in Krugar a couple of times and went on safari in jeeps but large parties, as with your cruise, may be on larger safari vehicles which are the size of buses. There’s quite a few safari venues in the south where you are. I’m sure you will enjoy your cruise and it will be nice to hear of your ventures on your return x
Hi Helen, dresses & tops all looked lovely. I have some😮 tips / info for Cape Town I went about 3-4 yrs ago and loved it. City centre Cape Town don't take your jewellery & be prepared to be approached by street sellers/ & people asking for money. There us a Marina & nice Board Walk area, with an extensive shopping centre development, our hotel was 5mins away in a car but they always provided a shuttle service for transport safety of guests especially after sundown hours. If you hav temie go to the wine valleys - we went to Franschuoek - hope i'm spelling & remembering that correctly - , the wine estates are beautiful and the wines all lovely. My favourites were Babylestoron and Verde en Lust, great day out. Lastly helicopter ride fro. Cape Town down the coast road, picturesque if you don't hav motion sickness tendencies and Boulders beach for the penguin colony is very smelly be prepared as you can get very close to them. Hope it helps 😊.
Been to SA several times seeing family. Please don’t wear expensive jewellery Helen, the pickpockets are the best in the world & they don’t stop with pockets!! Don’t go off on your own, stay with a group, and if you have a coffee etc out, don’t flash your purse/wallet. Wear long sleeves & trousers in the bush - the mozzies can be a pain. Follow the rules and you will have a great time as it’s a beautiful country. It should be hot there 30+ so cotton lawn is the best material, you might find chub rub too hot to wear. Have fun xx
Hi Helen the two dresses are just fab, I miss Monsoon it moved out of Ireland they had great sales. Enjoy your holiday it sounds exciting. I miss my Dermot so much 25 years togather passed last year, you know what I really miss is not having him to argue over something . (He always won)
Hi Helen, loved all the clothes that you have chosen for your up and coming holiday. The only thing I can suggest is make sure you cover yourself with insect repellent especially on safari. Xxx
I had two shepherd dogs that lived to 17 and 18 years old. one went deaf at around 15 years. no more piddles at fireworks. i think she just thought, "thank goodness those silly humans have stopped blowing things up" GREAT vid
Love the chat. Love all the clothes, especially the Monsoon dress. It’s gorgeous. I’m going to click on some of the on line sights and see what bargains are going. Happy New Year to and your family. Xx
Happy new year to you Helen and all your family.. Loved the chat , feel the same way about the world at this moment.. Fab haul, everything looks amazing on you .. Looking forward to the next one. Take care xx
Hi Helen, everything looked lovely on you! Hope you and Rob have a wonderful time! I love when you "ramble on" it feels like talking with a friend...I find it delightful, please don't ever change! Our little dog was like Dolly, it is so heart breaking to see them so scared of noises, sadly she lost her hearing later in her life, but we were happy that she didn't have to be so terrified at loud noises (she passed away almost a year ago). I hope you and Rob have a wonderful trip...safe travels! Thank you for sharing, take really good care, stay well! Lots of love Kathy x 💕💕
“Poor Rob”, clearly you do love him to bits! Love the last ‘lawn cotton dress’. I think I might suggest to my hubby what his NY. Resolution should be. Maybe along the lines of your suggestion for lovely Rob. We went to SA in 2022, our main advice was not to be wandering around on your own (even as a couple). The harbour area (V&A waterfront) is safe and interesting. Be interested in your thoughts on Azamara? Have a great 2024 Helen.
I love your videos! I used to work on cruise ships & have been to Africa - it’s amazing. I would suggest leaving expensive jewellery at home. I did get mugged in Africa in the port (handbag & camera).
We suffer constant fireworks from late October until mid January. It’s a nightmare. Like a war zone some nights. Anyhoo onward. I love those two dresses. ❤️💙💜
Happy New Year! This haul is all really terrific and looks perfect for your trip. Your shoes are adorable and go with so much of what your showed today.
I’m a huge fan of Next Clearance. Like you, it’s my first place to look! Thought the black shirt somewhat swamped you and wasn’t all that flattering on your lovely self. But, as an over shirt, perhaps with a strappy vest top and open it would not look so big. I really liked the red sweater you were wearing at the intro. I think I have something similar from crew clothing. Take a look at their current sale as they have some summer clothes on sale. The white cotton tops looked great. Loved the green dress and the other one. Can’t beat a dress with pockets!
Hi Helen, don’t mention the weather I am just so fed up with the rain I don’t think it has stopped raining since before Christmas. Loved the vlog and I bet you are so looking forward to your holiday. Loved the blouses. I just laughed about the ham just like my late hubby.❤️❤️
We were woken up by fireworks too, so annoying. I don’t sleep the best as it is and I was in such a good sleep. I love all the haul I can’t wait to come home this summer to shop. My husband and I decoy do a no spend January, well it didn’t last we bought some fat scales and I bought a planner/journal. Scales were only $9.99 from Aldi.
Happy new year to you and Rob and enjoy your cruise , we went to s Africa (Capetown ) in 2022 it was amazing. Be careful of crime its a real problem and a shame but the country is so beautiful so enjoy xx
Happy New Year Helen, looking forward to seeing all you have in store for us in 2024 😊 We have only done small ship cruises with Silversea (285 passengers) and Oceania (680). You will love small ship cruising. I could never go on these big ships. My mind is also blown by you saying 50% of people don't have an internal dialogue 😮 although sometimes I wish I didn't 😂.
You will love South Africa. It's a beautiful country. We hired a car and journied around for 3 weeks Your guides will make you aware of any restrictions. Your last dress will be perfect for the weather. Cape town is lovely. The South Africans wear very bright colours. I'm very envious❤
Happy new year Helen! All of those clothes look fabulous, I especially loved the first white top and the green dress. You do find some lovely clothes. I’m off to have a look now 😊 xx
Hi Helen, we holidayed in and around South Africa a couple of months ago and it was great! Two points I feel like mentioning, one is I was surprised how cool it was most days although I think it’s now summer there. Also I always felt completely safe and wore my usual jewellery. Of course it’s your decision but I thought I’d tell you how it was for me. Have a wonderful time and Happy New Year x
You made me laugh out loud at learning duo lingo 😂 I definitely need to do the same. I have a husband just like yours, who I’ve had for 42 years. All the clothes lovely especially the dresses. Enjoy your cruise x
Happy new year Helen. Your cruise sounds amazing. I’ve done a few cruises but not Azamara. The smaller ships are our preference too. I made the Juliet Sears cake not in the slow cooker but it is one of the best cakes I’ve made. Not good for the figure!! ❤
Loved these items Helen.Really suited you😊 Happy new year and like you I’m not keen on the whole NYE thing.Spent ours at home then saw the family on NYD .Perfect.😊
Hello Helen, lovely video again so thank you. You mentioned making clothes for your children using cotton lawn. I used to make my children Clothkits clothes and now am making them for my grandchildren. Edit here: understand you and Rob, we’re the same! (xx)
Great video Helen. As for SA it can be very windy so a hat with under chin ties is good idea. You’ll see shops called Woolworths - they’re all same as our M&S including food. Malls are amazing and V&A Waterfront market in Cape Town worth a visit. Enjoy your trip.
I had a golden retriever who was terrified of fireworks, she used to jump on top of me and shake. We used to give her Bachs Rescue Remedy which helped her to be calmer. It is a horrible thing to see as you don't know what to do to help. The haul looked amazing on you, wish I could pull off clothes like you do. I tell my other half things and he swears blind that I haven't told him. I swear he does it on purpose to make me think I am going mad. Selective hearing methinks
My husband and me bicker through the day we are both retired to live in Portugal so 24/7 together although I am not pension age just yet (few months to go ) they certainly do not listen or if they do they ignore or forget what you have said but hey ho lol...absolutely love everything you tried on today they all look good on you....the holiday sounds exciting...I am with you on this New year's eve thing I hate it to be honest my husband before now has gone down the Algarve with friends without me I am not a party pooper by a long shot but just don't enjoy it 😢
My previous little dog Mini used to literally petrified. When the fireworks started she couldn't move. I had to hold her all through. Now my Jesse dog a little black toy poodle is through the dog flap hunting for them barking like mad. He does the same during thunderstorms. Tough boy. Lol. ❤ That's my second post today. I do ramble on. 😂 HB
Hi helen.. Hope Sheila is on the mend soon. Tip re Africa, Ive been to Africa. a trip on the Nile and it was really hot . Not sure how hot it will be this time of the year as it was August when I went, plus youre in a different location but i would say, do not go on any trip on your itinery without having a bottle of water in your bag and possibly mints or something to suck on..also a light scarf..( ladies) so u can waft to get a breeze or a small hand fan in your hand luggage.. and a small spritzer spray ( coolant) and wet wipes. the head scarf is also good if your on safari to keep the sun off your head and neck... and wafting away insects!!and also I would not go without some kind of mosquito spray... the only ones that work have DEET in the ingredients, so look for that, and you can get small ones,,handbag size that look like a pen shape,,similar to those long tube bottles of handbag perfumes, if you know what i mean? If its forecast really hot take factor 30 + sun cream..apply that first,,then spray your insect repellent after..but take the top up handbag one with you.luckily you wont get bitten but youll have an uncomfortable sleep if you get bitten lots..oh and take some anthesan...can get in any chemist, its a cream to stop itching etc,,if you do get bites,,and maybe savlon antiseptic..you never know! you can never find these things abroad, We also took the plug in insect repellents for our cabin as we could have the windows wide open in our cabin. Hope theres some tips here that are helpful. The main thing, have a fabulous time and keep safe xxx
Thank you Helen. Your clothes are lovely and very suitable for your holiday. You seem to find amazing bargains in the Next Clearance Sale. As you mentioned the chub rub underwear, I think they will be too hot for SA. The weather will be up in the 30s. Look forward to hearing all about the cruise.
Ah, thank you xx
I share your sentiments about New Year’s Eve Helen - glad I’m not alone ❤
Never alone xx
Happy New Year Helen and to Rob too! I am very envious of your upcoming cruise from Cape Town up the garden route. South Africa is absolutely beautiful and you will love it! If you do go on excursions into any of the city areas my advice is to wear no jewellery at all and don't even take a handbag as they simply make you a target. Unfortunately crime is a serious issue there especially in the cities and it can be violent. Just be aware and, to be safe, stay in a group. I used to live in Durban and am so looking forward to hearing all about your trip, enjoy it, I know you will!
I agree with everything you’ve said. Also ex Durban 😊
Thank you all, very helpful info xx
What a gem.
Sounds great, thank you xx
Oh Helen, my dear Polly used to be terrified by fireworks. The worst thing I did was go out once when our neighbours were letting off fireworks and my poor girl dug up the carpet, ripped off a cupboard door and knocked the telly off the stand in her efforts to escape. It still haunts me and we lost her nearly three years ago. I love and miss her so very much. Anyway, arrived in Funchal today. Such an amazing place at this time of year. I always say if I was ever going to buy a holiday home it would be here. Belated Happy New Year to you and your family xx
Goodness me, Dolly tends to shiver and shake and lay low on the floor... she's a very placid dog xx
I bought my hubby a sign for his home office which says, “My wife says I never listen. At least I THINK that’s what she says?”
Great haul Helen! Love the green dress on you. Fab trip you found!
Haha, yes, the ears come separately apparently! haha xx
You crack me up again! Love your new clothes. The Monsoon dress is perfect! And the first broderie anglais blouse..!
Thank you xx
HYN Helen! 🎉
Loved each item you showed 😍 and your stories and the new year’s resolutions too 😂👍🏼
Thank you! You too! xx
Happy 2024.
Thank you very much xx
What a brilliant haul. Love them all, the white tops/khaki bottoms will be perfect for keeping cool and the monsoon dress is gorgeous. Love the length too! Have an amazing trip, looking forward to having your updates
Thank you xx
Happy New Year ! Loved the first haul of 2024❤. The Khaki trousers look fabulous on you and perfect paired with the 3 tops. Khaki dress was also lovely on you, but a style I would of looked at but it truly was lovely. Xx
Thank you very much xx
We had a holiday in SA a few years ago; 5 days on safari and 2 weeks in the south, including Capetown and the wine country. It was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. Enjoy your cruise and SA in general.
Thank you, sounds great xx
Lovely clothes Helen. My faves are the first broderie anglaise and the khaki dress. Have a wonderful vacation, looking forward to hearing about it when you return.
You will, but probably whilst I'm there too! haha xx
Thank you very much xx
Well said Helen. I and, I am sure many of your followers agree with your comments on the going’s on in the world. Take care and a Happy New Year xx
Thank you kindly xx
Very true.
Thank you xx
Hi Helen, Health and Happiness for 2024 and keep bickering with the lovely Rob. My hubby and I went on Journey, Azamara for our first cruise and it was marvellous…from Rome, down the Adriatic to Santorini etc. The White Night out on the deck was super and everyone looked great. Staff were fantastic kids from all over the world (and all got on so well - different cultures, religions etc. living in harmony). Loved your haul from next and such a bargain. You put me on to the clearance section and it’s super, just like your holiday sounds.🏴xx
Brilliant! Thank you xx
@@vickiphillips4876 thank you- that sounds great.
We are on the Pursuit out of Cape Town x
@@Helenmaryjo my favourite although all the same decor and layout . lucky girl 😀
Thank you, I will be reporting back xx
Keeping me entertained on the train again, Helen. Next stop Next clearance.
That will keep you busy xx
We just got back from our third visit to South Africa - this latest trip was seven weeks. We love it. We drove, walked around, did day tours. My advice is - watch your phone and don’t walk around at night. Otherwise usual precautions. It’s a stunning country.
That's great - thank you xx
Thank you very much, sounds fab xx
Hi Helen. Your rambling is so natural like a friend chatting. Don't stop.
Thank you very much xx
Love the banter between you and Rob! Did make me laugh and so relatable. Dresses are lovely xx
Thank you very much xx
HB. Hi Helen, lovely to see you so soon after New Year. Everything you tried on looked good; made me feel quite summery seeing those cotton clothes!
Yes, it will be good to see some sunshine xx
Happy New Year Helen. Wonderful choices. I couldn't even choose which is the best - you look great in all of them.😊
Oh thank you! xx
I've never liked new years eve, always stay in, I don't want other people's germs and like to be quiet 😀 I love all the clothing, the dresses both lovely for your holiday, the white tops are very pretty.💕💕
Thank you xx
Happy new year Helen. Oh gosh Helen all the clothes looked amazing on you. The trousers were fab. Everything was great. The dresses were fab. My only concern was the black shirt for a hot country. I live in Australia and I would not wear a blk top thro the day in summer it just attracts the heat.that’s my view anyway. Yes let’s hope for some peace Helen. Cruise sounds fab.
Thank you xx
Hi Helen, please don’t ever stop rambling on and digressing, we love it! All the items you showed looked perfect on you and just right for the cruise, which sounds great by the way. Still chuckling over Gammon Gate😅. My husband of 56 years causes me similar problems (although you’d think by now I would have it solved!) but you set me thinking and I’m wondering if I gave him a really detailed reason behind the request, he might have more success! Never too late to try… ☺️. Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year x
I resorted to filming a video of how to use the washing machine, while I was out and sent it to Rob to follow..... we can only try xx
@@Helenmaryjo Haha! now that’s an idea 💡
So sorry for your losses. Very difficult.
Thank you very much xx
@@Helenmaryjo Thank you Helen😘 Life's like that - the thing is to not let it get you down too much.
Hi Helen and a very happy new year to you and your family. I totally agree with all your comments about the celebrations and wishes and hopes for 2024. Your cruise sounds very exciting and it sounds as if it will be more relaxed than the previous one. What a treat to start off your new year! The first white broderie anglaise blouse is so pretty and an amazing price and the khaki trousers look great on you as does the embroidered dress.I’m looking forward to all your videos this year and really hope your channel grows as well as your subscribers as you really deserve it.❤️🥰
Thank you very much xx
Thank you very much xx
Happy New Year Helen to you and your family ❤❤❤
Aww, so sad that they do fireworks for so long.
Ah, thank you xx
Love those green slacks - they fit you perfectly, great length, and the white top looks really good too. The green dress is pretty - love the color, and the lawn cotton dress will be so good in the heat. Happy New Year!
Thank you so much! xx
Helen the khaki embroidery dress looked absolutely lovely on you. You looked like a model and so very comfortable in it. Youthful yet age appropriate. Do hope you feel as good as you look in. Happy New Year and wishing you and yours many more blessings in 2024.
Thank you so much! Happy New Year xx
Love seeing you in the red sweater and gosh everyything in this haul looks so good on you. The trousers are so flattering! Your upcoming trip sounds amazing, I hope we can go to some of the places with you!! Looking forward to lots more videos in 2024!!
Thank you very much Jayne xx
Xx
Oh goodness, that must be difficult. Poor dog.
Thank you xx
The last dress was beautiful and looks great. They were all keepers but that was my fave.
Oh thank you! xx
Haloo Helen, & happy New year! Have the 2nf broderie top. Wore it loads over summer. Lucky you escaping to warmer climes, enjoy. Here in the north, the weather is really dreich, & can't wait for lighter & warmer days. Enjoy your break. x
Thank you very much xx
Happy New year to you Helen hope you have a super time on your cruise x
Thank you xx
Happy 70th birthday 🍾🎊
Happy Big Birthday! Sorry for your loss and very happy to hear of your positive experience xx
Thank you very much xx
Hi Helen, loved all the items apart from the black blouse but that’s just a personal preference.
I use to work for a cruise company and never came across any complaints about Azamara cruises, I hope you have a lovely time.
That's good to hear xx
Loved the khaki dress!
When I was in Cape Town - given many years ago - I left all my jewellery at home bar a simple silver chain and earrings. If the ship is less formal you won’t need as much jewellery for evenings.
There is a chap who does excellent cruise videos on UA-cam - Gary Bembridge / Tips for Travellers - & he has been on Azamara, as has Emma Cruises I think - worth a watch!
My hubby has no internal dialogue - when I found out, my mind was blown too 😂😂😂 we still laugh about it!! X
I live in Cape Town and wear my jewelry with no problems everyday.
Yes, I'm familiar with him. He's very good. Thank you. xx
That's interesting, thank you. xx
Thank you very much xx
Thank you very much for taking the time to tell me all this, I appreciate it xx
Oh, Helen, I did laugh at the end of this post!!! I so understand about your resolution!!!!!!!!😂
Thank you very much xx
Hi Helen, loved all those next clothes, they all looked fab on 😊
Thanks so much 😊 xx
Watch out for the Baboons on Table Mountain Helen ! 😱 Cheeky Monkeys ! I was chased and believed I could jump a five bar gate !!!! Lol Lorna xxx
Cape Town that is x
Oh my! xx
I liked everything you tried on, the last dress was so nice, perfect for a cruise.
Thank you very much xx
That's great, thank you xx
Been to SA several times seeing family. Please don’t wear expensive jewellery Helen, the pickpockets are the best in the world & they don’t stop with pockets!! Don’t go off on your own, stay with a group, and if you have a coffee etc out, don’t flash your purse/wallet. Wear long sleeves & trousers in the bush - the mozzies can be a pain. Follow the rules and you will have a great time as it’s a beautiful country. It should be hot there 30+ so cotton lawn is the best material, you might find chub rub too hot to wear. Have fun xx
Thank you. Good advice xx
Hi Helen the two dresses are just fab, I miss Monsoon it moved out of Ireland they had great sales. Enjoy your holiday it sounds exciting. I miss my Dermot so much 25 years togather passed last year, you know what I really miss is not having him to argue over something . (He always won)
So sorry for your loss xx
Hi Helen, loved all the clothes that you have chosen for your up and coming holiday. The only thing I can suggest is make sure you cover yourself with insect repellent especially on safari. Xxx
Yes, ready to be packed xx
I had two shepherd dogs that lived to 17 and 18 years old. one went deaf at around 15 years. no more piddles at fireworks. i think she just thought, "thank goodness those silly humans have stopped blowing things up" GREAT vid
Every cloud....
Thank you xx
Happy New Year. Great haul Helen you look fab in everything as usual. Have a fab holiday can’t wait to see your vlogs 💕
Thank you! You too! xx
Love the chat. Love all the clothes, especially the Monsoon dress. It’s gorgeous. I’m going to click on some of the on line sights and see what bargains are going. Happy New Year to and your family. Xx
Thank you xx
Happy new year to you Helen and all your family..
Loved the chat , feel the same way about the world at this moment..
Fab haul, everything looks amazing on you ..
Looking forward to the next one.
Take care xx
Thank you very much xx
Thank you Kathy xx
“Poor Rob”, clearly you do love him to bits! Love the last ‘lawn cotton dress’. I think I might suggest to my hubby what his NY. Resolution should be. Maybe along the lines of your suggestion for lovely Rob. We went to SA in 2022, our main advice was not to be wandering around on your own (even as a couple). The harbour area (V&A waterfront) is safe and interesting. Be interested in your thoughts on Azamara? Have a great 2024 Helen.
Thank you, I'll be reporting back xx
A lovely vlog Helen, love all the clothes you tried on they all really suit you. Happy New Year x
Thank you! You too! xx
I love your videos!
I used to work on cruise ships & have been to Africa - it’s amazing. I would suggest leaving expensive jewellery at home. I did get mugged in Africa in the port (handbag & camera).
Oh my.
Thank you xx
Trousers look so comfortable, love the colour with black or white. Happy new year x ❤
Thank you very much xx
We suffer constant fireworks from late October until mid January. It’s a nightmare. Like a war zone some nights. Anyhoo onward. I love those two dresses. ❤️💙💜
Oh my goodness, that would be a nightmare for Dolly xx
Happy New Year! This haul is all really terrific and looks perfect for your trip. Your shoes are adorable and go with so much of what your showed today.
Thank you very much xx
Happy New Year! Love everything you got but I’ve got to say… I adore those earrings! I couldn’t stop looking at them ❤
Thank you. They are from Mounir.co.uk - HMJ10 gives you 10% discount xx
Thank you xx
Hi Helen, don’t mention the weather I am just so fed up with the rain I don’t think it has stopped raining since before Christmas. Loved the vlog and I bet you are so looking forward to your holiday. Loved the blouses. I just laughed about the ham just like my late hubby.❤️❤️
So much surface water, it's horrible, though it's sunny today. xx
Haha, hard to resist the bargains. xx
Happy New year to you all. I loved everything you tried on today love your chats😊
Thank you xx
Happy new year to you and Rob and enjoy your cruise , we went to s Africa (Capetown ) in 2022 it was amazing. Be careful of crime its a real problem and a shame but the country is so beautiful so enjoy xx
Thank you very much xx
Hi Helen. loved all the clothes. look really good on you. Have a great holiday. Happy New Year xx
Thank you xx
Happy NY Helen, I agree with your words, hard to celebrate knowing the awful situation for many innocent people in the world. Happy happy Holiday. 😊😊
Thank you xx
Happy New Year Helen, looking forward to seeing all you have in store for us in 2024 😊 We have only done small ship cruises with Silversea (285 passengers) and Oceania (680). You will love small ship cruising. I could never go on these big ships. My mind is also blown by you saying 50% of people don't have an internal dialogue 😮 although sometimes I wish I didn't 😂.
Me too!
Thank you xx
I love the colored light weight dress, perfect for warmer days
Thank you xx
Fab blog, love your honesty!
Always! Thank you xx
You will love South Africa. It's a beautiful country. We hired a car and journied around for 3 weeks Your guides will make you aware of any restrictions. Your last dress will be perfect for the weather. Cape town is lovely. The South Africans
wear very bright colours. I'm very envious❤
Sounds great, thank you xx
Happy new year Helen! All of those clothes look fabulous, I especially loved the first white top and the green dress. You do find some lovely clothes. I’m off to have a look now 😊 xx
Thank you xx
Hi Helen, we holidayed in and around South Africa a couple of months ago and it was great! Two points I feel like mentioning, one is I was surprised how cool it was most days although I think it’s now summer there. Also I always felt completely safe and wore my usual jewellery. Of course it’s your decision but I thought I’d tell you how it was for me. Have a wonderful time and Happy New Year x
Okay, thank you. Good to hear xx
You made me laugh out loud at learning duo lingo 😂 I definitely need to do the same. I have a husband just like yours, who I’ve had for 42 years. All the clothes lovely especially the dresses. Enjoy your cruise x
Thank you very much xx
Happy new year Helen. Your cruise sounds amazing. I’ve done a few cruises but not Azamara. The smaller ships are our preference too. I made the Juliet Sears cake not in the slow cooker but it is one of the best cakes I’ve made. Not good for the figure!! ❤
Haha, thank you xx
Loved these items Helen.Really suited you😊
Happy new year and like you I’m not keen on the whole NYE thing.Spent ours at home then saw the family on NYD
.Perfect.😊
Sounds good to me xx
Hi Helen , great video . Loved the tops and dresses , they looked good on you x
Thank you very much xx
Those last 2 dresses are fabulous and will be perfect for your trip! Happy New Year Helen to you and your family! xx
Thank you! You too! xx
Happy new year Helen. 🍾🤗 Liked all of the clothes you tried on. I also love your stories and totally relate to your relationship 🤗
Thank you very much xx
Hello Helen, lovely video again so thank you. You mentioned making clothes for your children using cotton lawn. I used to make my children Clothkits clothes and now am making them for my grandchildren. Edit here: understand you and Rob, we’re the same! (xx)
Well done, I haven't made my grand daughter anything - she is so fussy! xx
Great video Helen. As for SA it can be very windy so a hat with under chin ties is good idea. You’ll see shops called Woolworths - they’re all same as our M&S including food. Malls are amazing and V&A Waterfront market in Cape Town worth a visit. Enjoy your trip.
Thank you xx
Hi Helena I live in South Africa weather is hot, Cape town is gorgeous enjoy your trip.
Thank you very much xx
I had a golden retriever who was terrified of fireworks, she used to jump on top of me and shake. We used to give her Bachs Rescue Remedy which helped her to be calmer. It is a horrible thing to see as you don't know what to do to help. The haul looked amazing on you, wish I could pull off clothes like you do. I tell my other half things and he swears blind that I haven't told him. I swear he does it on purpose to make me think I am going mad. Selective hearing methinks
Absolutely. They hear but don't listen, often.... xx
Lovely items Helen they all looked fabulous. Love your hair too. Happy New Year to you & Rob.Xx
Thank you. My hair has got a bit long but no time for a haircut, but at least I can tie it up in the heat. xx
Ur lovely enough to look at, with or without adornment.😎
Great choices, Helen. I hope you have a lovely holiday.
Thank you very much xx
My husband and me bicker through the day we are both retired to live in Portugal so 24/7 together although I am not pension age just yet (few months to go ) they certainly do not listen or if they do they ignore or forget what you have said but hey ho lol...absolutely love everything you tried on today they all look good on you....the holiday sounds exciting...I am with you on this New year's eve thing I hate it to be honest my husband before now has gone down the Algarve with friends without me I am not a party pooper by a long shot but just don't enjoy it 😢
How lovely. Thank you xx
Great haul helen everything looked great, have a wonderful time, you have good taste❤
Ah, thank you xx
Happy New Year🎉. Great clothes & perfect for your hol. I did make the Christmas cake & it’s yummy. Xx
Fab, thank you xx
Happy New year and have an amazing cruise x
Thank you very much xx
My previous little dog Mini used to literally petrified. When the fireworks started she couldn't move. I had to hold her all through. Now my Jesse dog a little black toy poodle is through the dog flap hunting for them barking like mad. He does the same during thunderstorms. Tough boy. Lol. ❤
That's my second post today. I do ramble on. 😂 HB
It's hard to watch. xx
Thank you very much xx
Love the last dress. They’re all just right for your trip Xx
Thank you xx
Thank you Helen. Your clothes are lovely and very suitable for your holiday. You seem to find amazing bargains in the Next Clearance Sale. As you mentioned the chub rub underwear, I think they will be too hot for SA. The weather will be up in the 30s. Look forward to hearing all about the cruise.
Thanks. The Jockey shorts I wear for chub rub are very lightweight and actually made from wick away fabric so should be fine xx
