as a martial artist, but non BJJ practitioner, I've learned a lot about it and I have mad respect for people who even make it halfway to black belt. in bjj it is no easy thing to do! I have more respect for a bjj blue belt than a black belt in most other arts. This is amazing! but you're right, most people don't and wont ever know the amount of hard work and dedication this takes!
I don't practice jiujitsu (one day hopefully), I do a completely different style of martial arts, but I have so much respect for jiu jitsu practitioners. It is so much harder to obtain any rank, especially a black belt, and takes so many more years of practice, dedication, hard work, etc. Congrats to her. Amazing.
Nope not every one is a good person what about psychos and sociophats out there sublimating their mental ilness trough a "sport" that allows them to grapple, strangle, choke, luxate, broke and crush bones plus tons of people clap them because it was meant to be done, how I know that I am part of that little amount so don't asume all people will have good intentionsand now just think how much it cost training travel and compete (criminals have a lot of money to pay for something the may be use every single day until they get caught or killed)
I can only imagine. Getting your brown and you know the next one is black. But it will only come in time. Don’t focus on that or rush it. And you get a stripe. And another. And another. Each time knowing you’re getting closer but obviously there is no x number of stripes to get black. It happens when it happens. So with each stripe you think to yourself if the next time is the belt. But remind yourself not to focus on that. And then it happens. You go up. You get your stripe. Only as a distraction so you can receive your black. And all that anticipation that’s been building but you’ve been pushing aside surfaces all at once. You’ve done it. But it’s not over. Not only is it a new chapter but a new installment of the novel if that makes sense. Good job. I’ll be starting the journey myself soon.
Never stop reaching for what might look unreachable. One day you will surpass it and realize that with hard work and dedication you're capable of anything.
I absolutely hate this culture of the “surprise” promotion. It is 100% subjective, It creates a feeling of uncertainty that there is a cohesive format to BJJ. It is also exclusive and very unprofessional. The unprofessional nature of this is magnified when there is the podium promotion. Think about training, going to a competition, and then finding that the person you lost to was really a belt higher than you to begin with. I am a physician. There is a process, and a distinct pathway to becoming so. Same with engineers. Same with pretty much everything in a society. MAYBE, if this crap didn’t exist, there would be more people interested in the sport. Maybe, your gyms would do better.
White belt here. Got me in tears. One day I will achieve this for myself. Beautiful speech, spoken like a true black belt! So inspiring..

Damn every one of these gets me teary eyed. I guess we all know what goes in to getting one.
BJJ is one of the few or may be the only martial art where someone truly takes the time and effort that should take to become a Black Belt
One of the few but definitely not the only
