    I just love the opening. What talent! I'm sitting there watching them, thinking about what professionals they are as TV hosts, interviewing each other, giving well thought out opinions, not horsing around or trying to make the show about them. Then it hit me, all three of them were genuine Major League superstars, and not only that, big-time franchise-grade fan favorites in their primes! A power pitcher, a power hitter, and a power manager!

      And they're all elected to Cooperstown. The person in the middle was inducted to Cooperstown that year.

      Which is weird, because calling the ALCS was the original Bayless/SAS type, Cosell.

    The best part of this series was the last out of game 5. RIP to Dick Williams, Eric Show, Alan Wiggins and Tony Gwynn. Go Pads+++>

    Thanks for uploading, edited at a good point. Game one I only could find a "professional" version. It was clearer and all that but you had the ticker underneath running and the score up the whole time. I like this, gritty at a few points but I like a little grit. In my opinion a much better version, less distracting. Thanks again.

      Lets Talk Now Tv one of the best cubs team ever??? Are you crazy lol. I lived and breathed cubs baseball in 84’ and this team achieved all they could but blew it when going got tough. Sad to say but true. You’re up 2 games to zip against “the padres” and you can’t win 1 game in SD. Really ??? Looking back on it the cubs staff behind Sutclife was poor and bullpen wasn’t great as Lee Smith couldn’t get it done when it mattered. It was a fun season with a horrible ending. Not one of the greatest cub teams ever. To say that is silly

      Simplejbones I think the Mac padres had some things go their way in the three games in SD (the ball through Leon Durham’s glove at first was HUGE). But that’s baseball. But before you crown the great Mac Padres realize that cubbies had better record and should’ve had home field advantage not SD. But either way nobody was beating Detroit

    This series was a heartbreaker for Cub fans.....because Wrigley had no lights yet they played 3 in San Diego instead of Chicago and I think the next year they made these 7 game series instead of 5......But I'm not bitter lol

    • @mikepetitti
      @mikepetitti 2 роки тому +2

      I'm a die hard Cub fan, but 1984 it was the NL East's turn to host the first two games - ths Cubs not having lights had nothing to do with it. Back then, the divisions alternated which team hosted the first two and the last three from a year to year basis. You are correct that in 1985, the LCS went to best of seven.

    Bob Dernier and Larry Bowa said in interviews years later had it been a best-of-seven like it would be starting a year later in 85, they had no doubt they would’ve won both Game 6 and 7 back at Wrigley. At home, the Cubs were a different team and had won the first two games there.

    • @RobertJohnson-mn3br
      @RobertJohnson-mn3br 6 років тому +1

      Daniel Rivera they lost. Bottom line. Everything said after fact sounds like sour grapes. They blew the 4th game and the followed that up by blowing 5th game. So please, don’t tell me cubbies that you’re going to win game 6 and 7. It’s been 34 years and I’m still not over that series loss

      Had it been the 2-2-1 format like the division series is today, game 5 would've been in Wrigley, and I think the Cubs would've won.

      @@RobertJohnson-mn3br 6 & 7 back in Wrigley, yes the Padres would have had momentum after sweeping in San Diego those 3 games, but having 6 & 7 at Wrigley would have been a HUGE edge for the Cubbies knowing how they won the first 2 of that series. I think they would have won both 6 & 7 in Wrigley that year had it been Best of 7 as it would be starting a year later.

    I don't understand ABC deploying 2 American League persona to call this series (Weaver & Jackson). Much less, why wasn't their number one team calling this? ABC must have had tight fittings on these post season assignments this year. I heard Weaver and upcoming analyst Jim Palmer never got along, Tim McCarver was still a little wet behind the ears in the booth (he would prove people wrong the following year by taking Cosell's spot in the '85 series)Speaking of Cosell, he just about got himself thrown out of the booth by talking stupid in the network's ALCS coverage that year. Detroit had a great year and that's why they probably wanted the #1 team which permanently had Michaels and Cosell doing that series. Reggie Jackson was still playing, don't know why they always wanted him on their playoff coverage. He caused hard feelings working with Gary Bender on the '88 ALCS I heard.

      Even Drysdale was an AL announcer (for the White Sox, and before that the Angels) despite his playing career in the National League.

      They wanted their top team to call the Primetime games which of course would’ve been the cubs If they had lights. Fun fact, has the cubs won this series the cubs home games would’ve been played in St Louis as MLB and NBC didn’t want any non prime time games

    • @ryanstrnad1852

      @@chrispress2818 First, I wouldn't be surprised if Cosell was a strong influence on them getting the Royals stadium assignment (since they had the lights), so you sound right there. BUT, I don't THINK had the Cubs would've made the 1984 World Series it would've been shifted to St. Louis. The arrangement I kept on hearing was that home field advantage of that series would've then been given to the American League entrant (Detroit Tigers). That way, with games 3,4 & 5 of that series (at that time) scheduled to be played Fri, Sat & Sun, 2 of those 3 games (4 & 5) could've been played on the weekend afternoons, a practice which they were doing back then anyway (usually a 1pm et start on that Sat and a later, after early NFL games start for Sunday & Wrigley's I'm sure would've been played all before the late afternoon NFL games would've started). Though I'm sure NBC would've just "loved" that type of setup. St. Louis WAS likely to be hosting any Cubs postseason games after this situation though (barring ensuing lawsuits). But then all was finally rendered moot when Wrigley Field allowed for night games starting in 1988.

    Lol. What happened to the Chicago Cubs needed one more time as win for made into the 1984 world series arrive, since 1945? Mmm? Did they got this? Lol, I don't think so that they made it. Gosh, the San Diego Padres made 3 straight won games to beat the Cubs after Chicago leads 2-0 series of the NL championships in 5 games. I thought the Cubs were powerfully team than the Padres. But not.
