love your channel! just a note about FREE SHIPPING: I've been selling on Ebay since the 90's. a couple of years ago, they informed us that items with free shipping would henceforth receive priority visibility. I.e. if 2 identical items are listed for the same price, and meet all the same algorithm criteria, the one with free shipping will be shown in search pages before the one with paid shipping - theoretically. I am not crazy about free shipping, but when I finally got in line and tried it, I found that my sales increased noticeably. The real down side comes if you have a return. Then you are not only refunding the purchase price, but you lose the cost of original shipping as well. And in some cases you're also out return shipping unless you just let them keep the item anyway.
Good Job Josh. You have me motivated, I been listing like crazy. Hey man so I sell mostly Golf Clubs if you ever run out of those Priority Tubes, Amazon has long 48x4x4 boxes for about $1 each pack of 25. Has my productivity up too. Great Video
Just a tip I like to write first name and last initial on the package so when I do bulk shipping I can just look at the lable and place it on the rite package
I have been off the ebay game for a couple of months. I rememner when you only had 4k subs!! And when you did your lunch break thrifting videos and when you started ebay fulltime just a couple of months ago!!. I love that you have grown so much!! You have by far the best attitude of ebay sellers. Getting back on track with my ebay!! Needed a bit of hairy tornado therapy!!
Hey Josh, new to reselling by a month and new to your channel by a day, and im enjoying watching your videos so much ! Thank you for making these videos and for helping the reseller community continue to learn and grow. I appreciate you and your positivity 🙏
Josh, you continue making some very informative videos for a some what NOOB. You have motivated me to continue listing and slow down burning Fatties out in Cali . Continue success and be safe!
Some night when you’re watching tv you may want to write out a bunch of postcards so you have a stack ready to go when you’re packaging your shipments. Or, have a message pre-printed on your postcards and then just sign them. You’re always entertaining, Josh, and that’s just ONE reason why your channel is growing.oops I see someone else beat me with the comment.
I have a small room I save all my used boxes in (unless they get too beatup), reusing boxes saves me so much and gives me a nice variety of sizes though I'm only a part-time seller. I keep all the paperwrap/bubble wrap/air pillows I get at work too, I'm always short on bubblewrap since I use that the most but rarely have to buy extra. I also use free shipping for pretty much everything, most stuff goes flat rate or first class, a few items get a little tricky when it's bulky and needs to go FedEx but I just figure worst case long distance which for me is California and markup accordingly after using ebay shipping calculator. I think for buyers it's a bonus because if they get a defect and need to return, they are not out shipping cost on a refund (maybe just return shipping at most but I rarely get returns, defective items).
Appreciate how you do the math to reach the net profit. Also, greatly appreciate your showing the screen shot of choices for the means of/cost of shipping. Thank you!!!
LOL I love how you keep greeting the dog. :) I miss having one. Also, great work teaching others to embrace "Frankensteining" boxes for shipment. Just do it and use a ton of tape.
I love that you use so much time to pack it right. I have received things from other people on ebay that has been broken and packaged really bad, so thank you. My husband and I are thinking of starting to resell just for an extra income. My husband is a teacher. Thanks again for the awesome videos and info. By the way when are you going to do another video on the goodwill pallets? I know you bought a lot of them.
I am new to selling online. I really appreciated you showing how you mail your packages. I did not know you could order shoe boxes or golf club boxes from the The USPS. Thank you for sharing this great information!
Seeing your packing speed makes me envious, I send a lot of electronic circuit boards and they need to be extremely secure and distanced from the corners of the box with no chance of moving. I've received plenty of boards before with cracked corners and damaged components due to inferior packing. When I get an order come through for one of my non-fragile listings, it's such a relief to slap it in a padded mailer and seal it up haha.
OMG🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 LOL I laughed so hard at 24:44... That's a lot of tape! LOL. Congrats on a fabulous day!! This is Sabina btw I set up a new account /name and I think I am going to give UA-cam a try (thanks to your editing video, that was really holding me back before) Thanks for the motivation! Keep up the great videos!
Great informative video josh! Thank you! BTW we got the RC battery today, charged it, and made the kids truck go about 70mph! It normally does about 55mph with smaller batteries. He loves it! Thanks again for a great deal!
Lol🤣....."you have to tape 3 times around each corner and damn it wont fit....oh well"......your funny josh...lol....I enjoy these videos bro...keep it going:)🤙
I just frankenboxed two of those USPS tubes together for a golf club recently. You fit them together much easier than me! I tried to “insert” one into the other. Definitely not as easy, lol. Instead of packing paper, I literally tape a single air pillow into the top of the box and it holds the handle in place. Less weight if you are close to the next pound.
Here is the link to the craft paper I use for void fill. It's 12 inches tall and 1000 feet long and Amazon has it for $12 free ship. Best deal around. amzn.to/2RjWjX3
Josh one thing to consider with free shipping is "Returns". With returns you will be refunding the total amount, where as with listing you charge shipping if its a buyer remorse return you don't have to refund the shipping. So if you have many returns on items that would have cost quite a bit to ship if they return it you kinda get screwed.
I know. I dont have very many returns. And I charge the buyer return shipping if they want to return for a reason like doesnt fit or just doesn't like it. I get maybe 2-3 returns a month.
Josh, got to say this was a really nice video. I seriously like how you were very detailed in your costs and profits. Do hope your dehumidifier is working well, and have you considered a water heater cover? I hope you are keeping a running log or notebook. I have enjoyed the goodwill pallets, but somehow never saw your "final estimate "of profit.
1 more packing tip for ya, if your making custom boxes, i use a steal ruler and a pizza cutter to crease the cardboard for easy folding, works great :-)
I appreciate seeing your packing methods. It’s actually really helpful fir me. They say lots of tape is a cheap insurance. Man I wish I had an amazon return store by me. Tempted to open my own. Seems recession and pandemic proof.
I’m going to stea....borrow that thank you card idea! Your video’s help me a lot so thank you. Plus they are highly entertaining. Tip: i sometimes buy a bulk of cheap stuffend animals and if someone buys kids stuff I add a free extra plush. Making people real happy and greatful.
In my town, when modifying priority boxes like this; my usps immediately cut that s**t down. You get charged the amount of the two boxes that you used. I used to work for the usps too, so modifying boxes was fown upon as a usps associate. lol I mean you can still do it but I guess some usps lets you get away with it by charging you once for one priority box than two priority boxes.
You could save a lot more of shipping supplies and time if you just boxed it smaller but had extra padding to the boxes. Lonnie cuts 2 medium size usps boxes to make one bigger box and its much stronger. I do the same thing and for really big orders too and it saves on supplies and time. Just saying you could save on supplies but everyone has there own way of doing things.
Great work. 👏 I have a question. I'm not sure if anyone has trouble with this or not, but when should I give the buyer positive feedback? Should I wait a couple days after the buyer received the item? Longer? Thanks!
Maybe fill out your thank you cards and keep them in a stack next to your tape dispenser.. just a thought brother.. Great content and info as always.. Thank you for that...
Awesome video man, that’s a huge day for you congrats..... I usually just do free shipping and just increase the price according to the shipping fee, I give them a business card to, once I run out I’ll make new once. Lol I usually forget my cards as well. Awesome video man
Hello, Like all your followers I enjoy watching your videos and learn so much from them. Quick question - where do you purchase your packing paper? I've tried the local print shop but it's pretty heavy paper and hard to scrunch up. TIA Love your videos, I learn something every time!
Question, with the bows radio, did you have to switch the shipping with the buyer or when it's free shipping, you can choose which ever after the order

Yoga mat bought for 12 sold for 22 but shipping cost me 10.89 so I actually lost money on that but I am more concerned about making some sales and getting a few reviews at this point since my seller accounts is new.
When I go to print my labels I have to put the weight of the box in before I print it. So I open the first label (say it's for the doorbell) I find the doorbell box, weigh it, put the weight in the label info and the. Write the zip code on the box. Once all the labels are done, I print them and match the zip codes on the labels to the zip codes on the box.
I get not doing it on Flat Rate boxes LOL (I could make a small flat rate larger than a "large" flat rate with a bunch of work LOL). But on just the normal priority, do they ever say anything? It's probably just like putting in your own frankenbox and shipping priority I guess. Would love your insight.
If it’s not marked flat rate, you can modify the crap out of them, and you’ll be charged the appropriate Priority rate. I haven’t had an issue doing that. Flat rates you can’t modify. Though I don’t know if they‘ll give you heat then charge the appropriate rate, or just reject them outright.
Based on their website, if a flat rate is modified, they are supposed to just charge you regular priority BUT few employees know this rule so they often just return to sender
No. It's just priorty. Weight and distance. I added about 5 inches to the box so it would be 41x5x5 instead of 36x5x5 and the total weight was like 1lb 8oz
When you do your breakdown of the numbers, what ebay screen do you reference for that info on each item? Do you record that on a piece of paper as you pack each item or is there a page where you see all those numbers in one place so you can do that math? Thanks so much!
It took me about a year (selling part time) to figure out how to offer free shipping without losing money. I still do calculated shipping on big, heavy items. I do think it's increased my sales.
wow a lot of packing tricks, Thanks a lot for sharing that with us, you're a prof. the bad things here in California we don't have an amazon store like this or goodwill pallets too, and everything is expensive when you buy an individual item from the store, can I ask if there's an app to scan the product found in a goodwill store and tells you if it's worth or not same as books app? by the way, even the mortgage in your city is too low f**k. Lol . Always enjoying your videos keep it in up 👍
@@HairyTornado Thanks Josh, also would like some advice: If you have multiple quantity (more than 1) of a new item but the packaging differs from one another, how do you list it and do you take photos of each one?
Thing of it is, if you all do free shipping, that kind of pushing it on all of us. Free shipping is nuts. I always have to pay shipping any where I buy. I like to offer free shipping on anything under 13oz but nothing else.
Do the eBay/PayPal fees apply to the cost of shipping as well? Like, if you sold something for $20 free shipping, you would obviously pay fees on $20 and have to pay shipping costs too. But if you sold it for $10 plus shipping, would you only pay fees on $10? I too am trying to figure out the optimal way to list, and can echo the benefit of a "Fast and Free" shipping listing, but I always like saving on fees if possible.
I’m a noob eBay seller and I just hit my first $500 day on Sunday. It’s a great feeling.

I just scan things with the ebay app
Hi Josh, how do keep track of the buy cost of items bought from garage/yard sales since there are no receipts?
You can write it down in a journal or spreadsheet. Date, address of sale, what you bought and how much you spent.
Add packing paper inside the shoes. It’ll add that extra touch
Do you get the supplies from Ebay for free? Where do I go to get those. Love your channel and just subscribed. I am in VA right on the NC boarder. :D
They are not free. You can buy them on ebay
You pay fees on everything, shipping included.
@@HairyTornado Makes sense. Otherwise I would have made all my listings $0.01 + $19.99 shipping haha.
@@walterwk that's what happened originally when they didn't charge fees on shipping. Items everywhere were listed for $1 plus $99 shipping
$874 almost paid your mortgage? I’m living in the wrong state. 😂
874 is actually MORE than my mortgage. The net sales almost paid the mortgage hahah
Do you use software to cross list or just keep notes on what you have cross listed?
I dont really cross list anything. Just ebay
How or where do you find the box to ship out golf clubs? I struggle with this sometimes.
I talk about this for like 6 minutes of this video
Hairy Tornado ya I made that comment as I was first watching the video... I saw later on the video thx...
