    As a machinist and someone who runs a machine shop. I just want to clarify something that you have stated several times about more expensive machines for Titanium. I'm not trying to be a dink about it but to educate. The CNC machines that would mill/contour the titanium scales can be the same machine that does aluminum or G10 scales. The additional cost associated with titanium is the raw stock cost, tooling, and time. To machine those exact scales in Aluminum it would be much faster using cheaper cutting bits that would last much longer. In titanium, much longer cycle time and much more expensive cutting bits that will have to be changed out more often.
    Anyway, I have this knife, and I love it like a bastard stepchild. It's really cool and executed very nice but there is something about it that is quite different and weird. I think it adds to its charm.

    I've had my buckhorn since Blade show, & it brings me joy every time I pick it up. Hold it up to a light & see straight thru the centered design holes! It melts into my hand & locks in. Great blade to handle ratio, weight to Blade length, & blade shape. Terrific slicer. More than milling of a contoured handle... this one is contoured & sculpted like no other production knife I've ever seen. Awesome Value. Thank you Ken Onion.

    I love the look of this knife, but the tip is a deal breaker. It's kind of bizarre. The knife looks amazing till it's opened. If that snout came down to a point, I might own one.

      The tip is the “ look” of the knife. It’s usually the case of someone with influence telling somebody else what to like and then a massive amount of people are committing on what it was they were told not to like about it. Comment after comment is about how crappy the tip is.

      I'm not trying to dog the design too much, but even a small nitpick these days can lead me to not buying one knife while accepting a nitpick on another knife. We're all weird. Glad people agree on this one.

    This really does look like a fantastic piece. When it first came out, I was a little disappointed that they went with S35VN. Over the past few months, I think that has become my all-time favorite steel. It’s not much harder to sharpen and strop back than something like 154CM, but it holds its edge a little longer, and it’s also pretty damn corrosion resistant while being tough enough for me. I think the balance is absolutely perfect. I don’t have enough experience with Magnacut at its optimal HRC, so maybe I would like that better. I just got a custom. EDC fix the blade in it at 63-64 HRC, so maybe I’ll change my mind after using it for a a few weeks and putting my own edge on it. But for now, S35VN is my favorite

    I think the knife looks good (especially the handle). I wish the tip was brought down a bit and added some more material on the front of the blade. Will not be many sharpenings before all of that tip material is gone and you hit that swedge. That's something that should be addressed imho if he makes a V1.1

    When I see S35VN or S45VN, it just feels like a missed opportunity to use Vanax, which is the best balanced steel all around outside of MagnaCut, and just strictly dominates either of those formulations on every metric of performance.

    • @WillLiam32
      @WillLiam32 25 днів тому

    • @australai
      @australai 25 днів тому

      @WillLiam32 I just checked one supplier and the cost for blade stock by steel volume is about 20% higher for Vanax than S45VN.

    • @australai
      @australai 25 днів тому

      @richfranks9161 This is a flashy but still very utilitarian design. If all you want is a collectible then you really just want any of the most corrosion resistant steels, which would be Vanax, LC200N, and MagnaCut.

    My issue is the S35. I just don’t care for that steel. I would much prefer S30. S35 does not do well with anything over 1000 grit. I like steels that do well with whatever grit finishes that I want to do which can vary from job to job.

    Ketuo needs to get their act together with the misleading advertising. First they claim their Damascus is Damasteel when it is not, and then they suggest a Chinese-made knife is made in the USA? Not cool. Their knives, however, are cool.

    The blade show awards are a joke. The most innovative American made knife award went to the magnacut PM2 and the import knife of the year went to a basic looking lionsteel integral offered in Ti or Aluminum. And winterbladeco did submit some knives...

      @@Silence-and-Violence yes, I was referring to the import knife of the year award going to a boring Italian knife.

    • @Silence-and-Violence
      @Silence-and-Violence 24 дні тому

      @jonathanwatson268 I personally love LionSteel and think they are doing just about the best machining and innovation to price to human dignity in labor ratio I can think of.
      China beats them if you don't care about human suffering or labor quality or things like that. But what LionSteel can do from Italy is extremely impressive when you compare it to what the Chinese companies want for an integral handled knife made in China instead of one of the best designing countries in the world like Italy.
      These Chinese OEMs are regularly asking for more money on an integral titanium than Lionsteel and they have objectively WAY WORSE heat treats. LionSteel will get you a titanium integral with a proper 61+ HRC heat treat on a true super steel for under $350. Plus the QC will have Chinese QC for breakfast.
      And I'm usually a big supporter of the good Chinese OEMs, and I usually have to defend Chinese workmanship to racist Americans but today I'm rooting for LionSteel lol.
      Who do you think should have got best import this year?
      I'm sick of Chinese brands now wanting more money than what even Benchmade used to charge us when the first worthwhile Chinese OEMs came out 10-15 years ago.
