Thanks so much Lois. I love watching your videos but I was very sensitive to the strobing. I thought I'd just have a sneaky peak and quit watching before I started to feel sick, but guess what, no issues. How lovely to be able to watch you again.

Oh, what a shame, darn it, you have to keep that lovely red lamp 😉. It is stunning to look at. I love the way the sodium silicate bowl came out, those I find to be hard to have smooth. Your kiln load this time is a happy one, yay.
How exciting for you, a new baby in the family

I discovered your videos and I'm hooked! Absolutely thrilling to watch, and so very helpful to see exactly how you do the glazes. The kiln opening is a treasure too, seeing how the pieces turn out. I've learned sooo much from you, thank you! I've been working in clay since 97 off and on, and I'm "really" a quilt fabric designer for P & B Textiles and watercolor artist 40+ years- but I cannot resist the wheel. You are BRILLIANT!

Hi Lois. Love your kiln openings with the very detailed descriptions of your glazing techniques. And your pottery is so beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I often find it difficult choosing glazes for pieces, simply because there are so many to choose from! Here's some food for thought on glazes for your lamp with the geometric design; saturation gold in the lines would look great, as long as it doesn't run. Then fill up the other spaces individually with color & textures...which also won't run. Like maybe dark magma, a stable glossy red, cosmic tea dust, satin matte white or other color, maybe some a bright celadon for a pop of color? I know you'll find something that will be stunning, cause that's what your good at!
Cheers! Glad to see you back!

    • @LoisHook

I’ve been thinking it over and over. Trouble is colours like red that would look good in the grooves would run.
      I am a lover of textures. !!

@@LoisHook I'm sure you'll come up with something good! And please do share when you've finished it. I would love to see what you settled on. Another thought I had was using celadons to mimic a stained-glass look. And use a satin matte black in the lines. Thanks for your videos. I really enjoy them!

When I got my wheel it came with a Gyubera (cow) Tongue rib it's a Japanese tool. I find using that rib inside of a pot helps to round and close the form. I use the short one. I hope that helps. Congratulations on your new grand baby.
These are beautiful pieces. I always enjoy your kiln openings. ☺ 23:38 for some reason I see that piece with terra color red in the lines and obsidian over the rest. It's a simple glaze combo but I think it would really show off your work. That is going to be a wonderful piece. I look forward to seeing it completed.

I love the sodium silicate with the black slip, the smooth texture looks great! My suggestion for the round piece is to look at some Rothko pantings for inspiration.

Hi, I am new to pottery again. And I am trying to get a head start and watch videos before i join a studio in San Diego.
I love your almost scientific artsy way that you do glazes.
    I had a thought.
That last circular piece looks so awesome that i think if you get too fancy with the glazing, it will take away from the piece itself.
When you do a portrait, the person is the focal point, but if you make the awesome cityscape just as prominent as the subject, then it's kind of too much and the person is not so special. The whole painting doesn't pop.
If it was just a circular piece and nothing else, then showing how the glazes meld together in your special way would be awesome. The glaze and technique would be the feature.
    Just my opinion.
Saying all this, I thank you for being an awesome teacher to us beginners.
    God bless,
    ✌🏼🦁
    Edited:
Maybe glaze it like a awesome garment.
Solid colors a hint of pattern or just solid color blocking.
The trick to being simple blocking is that everything else needs to be technically perfect.
Thanx again for teaching us. I hope next week i can start throwing cylinders and start learning again.😊

So 10 sides with 18 inches of height. The KMT means it has the screen with firing presets. I have used that all the way through. With no firing issues. On a cone 6 it fires a hot cone 6 but the glazes have given great results.

Can you share what the copper wire piece looks like when you adhered it to your lamp piece? Also, in that piece, did you make 3 separate round bowls and attach them or was it so one piece on the wheel?

    • @LoisHook

    • @LoisHook

13/15mm hole before firing. With the kit I use you need 10mm for the screw part of the lamp to go through.
